My first cat was a Siamese back in 1968. I named him Tao after the cat in Sheila Burnford's "The incredible Journey". Tao was my devoted and constant companion for nine years, He died from megacolon. I cried for over a week. Siamese are my favorite. I live with 2 cats now - mixed breed - because most of my life cats have come to me as strays so most of my little ones were rescues. I am 80 years old now and my life has been dedicated to non-human animals and children --I'm a retired elementary school teacher.

My Siamese cats know simple commands, and have dog like characteristics, and love to play fetch, can open cabinets, drawers and doors. The three Siamese I adopted work as a team, when they raid the pantry. They want to be in the same room as their humans, and will track you down. If you are considering a Siamese don't get just one, get a litter mate if at all possible. Siamese love their own kind, because they are busier than other breeds. They are always looking for something to get into, just like having a two year old child. They need lots of toys, and play time with their humans. Check the shelters, before buying a Siamese. People new to raising Siamese kittens find they are too busy, and need lots of attention, that the human isn't prepared to give. So Kittens that were purchased are turned over to shelters, because owners were not aware of the time and energy these beautiful creatures require. It is an over abundance of love they give to their humans.

Absolutely agree though personal traits of a cat matter as much. We have 3 ladies: a choc tabby Siamese, a bicolour tortie Oriental Longhair and a rescue ginger European shorthair all aged between 1-2 years old.Allthough some race traits are absolutely obvious, others are dominated by their personality. In some countries it's not easy to find a rescue siamese in a shelter. But there are special social media groups [rehoming siamese/orientals/balinese etc] that do a great job, providing a lot of info with respect to the background of a siamese that needs a new home.

So, I actually expect my Siamese crew to respond when I call their names... on the of chance when they are taking a deep nap...and I find myself rather upset. "why are they not coming when I call their name?" 2 out of 3 like playing fetch.. One of them jumps between two stools through a loop (which my nephew added crêpe paper flames to :)) In my imaginative brain... I see myself as Siegfried or Roy.. (preferably the one of them that wasnt killed by the kitties. - but then again.. there much be worst ways to go..:)) ... to be honest, all 3 of them jump the loop but some are more motivated by treats than others :)

Yup. I read a book about cats written by a researcher who said that cats do understand us on the level of a 3 year old toddler.
I learned from him to always explain to my cats before leaving for a while that I loved them and that I would come back soon. Doing this stops naughty behavior when they are left alone.

When I was 10 years old I had a siamese cat I named Simon. He would wait for me at the bus stop.
He had blue eyes and was cross eyed when he was a kitten but his eyes straightened out as he grew into an adult.
He wouldn't touch cat food of any kind. It had to be raw meat, if it was cooked he wouldn't eat it.
He loved raw chicken gizzards, that was his favorite.
As I would step off the school bus I'd hear a meow and see my cat walking toward me, I'd pick him up and carry him home.
It was always a mystery to me how Simon knew where the bus stop was and what time the bus arrived.
If I ever get another cat It'll be a siamese.
They like lots of attention which is one of the things I love about them.

My sister’s Siamese rode the horse even if she wasn’t riding. We would look out and there was Pia riding the horse around the pasture. Favorite indoor game, hide and seek. Unfortunately she had several favorite hiding places, behind the door, atop the fridge and like. We had to pretend we couldn’t find her sometimes and let her jump out at us.

Back in the 70's I had a male Seal Point Siamese named Simon, and a Goldfish named Garfunkle. We had a small broken window in the basement of the house we were renting, and Simon liked going outside there and would bring me "presents." One morning I woke up hearing his muffled meows. He had a dead bird in his mouth that was still warm. On another day while I was talking on the phone to someone, he brought me a LIVE garter snake! He set it down on the floor near my feet, and I had to end the call and catch it. The house had large furnace vents, and didn't want the snake to go down into one of them because it wouldn't be able to get out of it. I could only imagine what that would have been like in winter when the furnace was on all the time. I caught it and took it outside and let it go. I had to put Simon in the bathroom with the door closed so the snake could get far, far away before I let Simon come out.
Simon loved Christmas. He would climb up in the middle of the cut tree, and nap on the branches. He never bothered the ornaments at all. I think he thought we bought Christmas trees just for him.
He was very vocal, especially when I was cooking in the kitchen. He always tried talking me into giving him some of whatever kind of meat I was cooking. Especially chicken! He was a great cat. 😻 ❤

He was always completely relaxed, one time we got into the car and started down the road, before we got out of the neighborhood I looked out the back window and saw Simon laying on the trunk of the car soaking up sunshine like he was in heaven.
I told my mom to stop the car.
Your cat brought you a garter snake..wow!!
      I like garter snakes.
I love siamese cats they're such characters.
I cried when Simon got hit by a car the following year.

my siamese kitten (at 4 months old) figured out how to open the door. it took him a week. he taught himself, i didn't want him to learn that!
it took him less than a day to teach himself fetch (at 5 months old). he can keep a game of fetch up for hours, where i am exhausted!
i heard in this video some siames learned hide and seek. i wonder how that is taught?
I am about to start teaching him pet-buttons. he is plenty smart enough to do that. (just starting 6 months old).
I adore having him and it's a good job i do, as he never leaves me alone.

Because my Spooky Mookie is only half Siamese she doesn't behave like a pure bred. She came to me out of the hedge in our apmt. parking lot. Lucky me.
She's not a ferral. I think someone just put her out because of her BIG personality.
Again, lucky me. She's a gift to me from The Universe.
I'm old and before Mookie I was basically a couch potato. Now caring for her keeps me active and entertained.
Sadly though, she is not a lap cat. I only get affection on HER terms at HER discretion. Good enough.

Our two Siamese kitties, Felix and Pixie, are so smart that my husband take to spelling words in front of them!! If I say to my husband, please take the trash out, Felix will run to the door closest to the one where we can go to our garbage can. If I say "treat or dinnertime", they both salivate. At night we have "loving time" with them, and after a while we say, "Go to your basket." They jump down and take themselves to their bed not far from ours!!

As others have said, get two as kittens. They are quite social and will pine for you if left alone for a length of time. Not a great breed if you like a quiet kitty either. On a scale of 1 - 10 ( 1 being quiet and 10 being extremely loud and vocal ), they are probably a 6 - 7 when you are around and they are playing. This noise increases to about a 36 at feed time. In colder climates, they LOVE the heater. They will lay in front of it for hours on end, holding the floor down. They can be protective of their huuuman also, growling at strangers that come into their home. Plenty of scratching posts and toys are a must also. They can be trained to not scratch furniture, but you should start this early in their lives.

"Chester " a huge Chocolate point male..given to me by my father-in-law... "Sasha " we called " Sauce " a beautiful delicate female who adored my husband and would sit on his shoulder with her head against his face and gaze adorningly at him....and ignored me..
" Simon " a beautiful Lilac point... "Enki Du " named for the Samaritan God of mischief..who lives up to his name...all were unique and wonderful personalities...I've owned other cat breeds over the years but loved my Siamese the most...lesson learned by ownership....never insult a Siamese..they will get you..and you'll not forget the experience..

We share our home with 2 Siamese Cats at present and have had Siamese previously from the early 1990's and I can't say I find anything "Shocking" in your content !!. Can you explain.
The differing colours of Siamese have become more apparent over the years as breeders introduce more variations.
The 4 main colours were Seal,..Chocolate,..Blue,..and Lilac Points, but now there are many variations. Seal Points being dark Brown near Black with Chocolate becoming a lighter shade of Brown then Blue Point which is a Bluey/Grey colour and then Lilac which is a very gentle shade of Red/Ginger.
The Colour Points are also known as temperature points as these areas change colour depending on the cats body temperature.
Siamese living in a warm or hot climate are usually much lighter in colour than those living in countries with a cooler temperature.
Another example,....If a Seal Point gets a small injury to one of its lower legs where the fur is dark brown and it's bandaged until healed, on removing the bandage the fur will have changed colour to a Creamy White as the fur has been closer to the skin and warmer under the bandage.
Generally the cooler areas of the body such as the mask, ears, legs, and tail are darker with the warmer areas such as the neck, chest and underbelly being either Pure or Creamy White.

All the Siamese I've had were not allowed away from the breeder until 12 weeks old and definitely had their points by then not after a year.

Don't buy online, visit a breeder and have a good look around it's living quarters.

I got lucky we had a calico cat and I guess she miscarried and went outside and stole another cats kittens and one day I saw her in the closet I went over there and there was a Siamese kitten walking in there confused and looked at me a was meowing we where like where did this cat come frm ??? We ended up keeping her she is such a diva won’t let anyone touch her only my late partner she would wait outside of the bathroom door till he came out and would meow at him to go back to the room wit her and would sit in the hallway till he got up when my late spouse passed we saw her looking up at something in the room and just kept staring we knew it was my late spouse saying his goodbyes to her cuz they where inseparable.. she now follows my younger son and no one else and never goes outside even if the door is open to me she is a rare one cuz cats scream to be outside and not her she likes being in my late spouses room that is now my sons room

I've been told that "zoomies" are the cat's using up pent up energy. Cats NEED play/exercise time daily. If you skip this they will speed around your place until tired.
I know my Mookie wants more play time when she claws my ankle if I try ending our session.

My Siamese used to trick me ,she would open the balcony door and escape leaping onto a tree and then come back in and lay down by the gallery so I wouldn't know about it, until a neighbor saw her in the tree and told me , very clever , now she's 11 yrs.old and I let her out but she wouldn't roam around and stays within the perimeter of the house. ♡
