      But its also a small one - or appears to be small. Maybe if it grows older it would turn violent? Or its because as a domesticated corn its already in close contact with man who see it as an important food stuff and value it?

    Couldn't the Great Serpent of Tender Valley suggest an example of auspice/Vidraal that adopted a somewhat neutral stance in Tural?

    • @umelgaming3177
      @umelgaming3177 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

      So i think the lore around that is more so that the Serpents are more interdimensional beings then Auspices. Thats why as we get deeper into the Valley the Architecture and Enemies look so similar to what was found in Ronka over on the first. Both Societies were influenced by the same entities even though they are on other worlds

      @@umelgaming3177 You have a point, thanks for sharing it. I understand that the Great Serpents, in plural, have the potential to be something much bigger (and also just a joke, as in comedic escape) than conventional auspices/vidraals/primals.
      However, if I take the game blindly seriously and ignore the prophetic powers of the Great Serpent of Ronka, I _could_ interpret that:
      - there have been serpent-like creatures on Etheyris since forever
      - therefore, there are serpent-like creatures on most shards that eventually became important parts of cultures
      - therefore, it's not otherwordly to imagine that two distinct cultures (Xaq Tural valleys and the Ronka empires) would both have serpents as a central part of their myths, and that some of them would have evolved around a specific serpent that grew too powerful.
      Either way, I see there's a lot of conjecture and stretching there. My point bringing the Great Serpent topic is a reminder that this topic is full of potential and could have _some_ relationship to the abstract topic of auspices/vidraals/primals. I can only hope we see more about that.

  • @eidalac
    @eidalac 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +18

    Does make me ponder why we don't see things like them near Eorzea, but get alot more primals. One guess that could answer both is that the fall of the Allagan empire had some long term effects on the regional aether which helped make it easier to summon primals and one or both of these events makes it much harder for an animal to undergo the change to become something like a Tural Vidral.
    Alternatively, in the EW alliance raids story we know some of the excess aether was being absorbed/regulated by those characters. If a Tural Vidral needs some kind of excess aether to develop that could also explain things.

      An interesting thought but hear me out. Eorzea is meant to be far richer in aether than other parts of the world but it also seems to be more unstable, whether naturally or due to events of the past. It's the epicenter of at least 3 or 4 calamites as far as we know, possibly more and with more recent events like the summoning of primals it could mean that the aether is not stable for long enough for auspices to form.

    • @umelgaming3177
      @umelgaming3177 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

      @@kurojester4513 Stability of the aether could be a factor, but one of the very theories Synodic Scribe mentioned was the lack of an Apex Predator, such as Dragons or Behemoths, could leave just enough room for this evolution. There if a very strong possibility that Eorzea isn't unique but we would really need to see what its like over in Merycidia, a place where Tiamat's and Bahamuts brood is known to live, to really see if that is a factor.

      @@umelgaming3177 Could also be that Behemoth itself counts as such a creature. • @eidalac
      @eidalac 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

      @@jemm113 That's an interesting thought - since the original Behemoth in Elpis was created to be THE apex predator it could be both stable enough to not be able to become a Vidral and directly compete with any that might arise in the region. Another example of potentially neutral (or even peaceful) Tural Vidraal is mentioned in the physical ranged DPS role quests from Dawntrail.
    The quest "To Steal a Steelhog" has dialogue right at the start saying that their treasure "contains the undying essence of an armadillo tural vidraal", and that this vidraal was enshrined by their tribe long ago, and has been used as a source of protection and reverence ever since. This doesn't sound like a relationship of fear of an evil/destructive Tural Vidraal overtaken by its aramitama.
    I haven't finished that quest yet, so I might be incorrect in some of those details, but this looks like a good trail either way.

    I wonder how the Amaro fit into all this. They also go through a transformation after living long enough. Clearly, something different is going on (none of the amaro get stronger or go crazy to my knowledge) but the fact that the change is brought about by age is what strikes me.
    Could this in theory happen to very old spoken? Are some species just more or less susceptible to this phenomenon? If a creature was kept alive unnaturaly through magic or science, could it be possible to intentionally create an auspice?

    • @Sky_Ler2000
      @Sky_Ler2000 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      Hard to say, the amaro might be a result of them being shards, and thus have less aether in general, and may also explain why it’s not a common occurrence. The vidral and auspices are of the source and likely have more aether infused into their souls than those of the shards which probably leads to their mental instability.

    • @Anifan123
      @Anifan123 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      I think the answer might lie in location for the Amaro. The First was leaning heavily towards Light Aether even before any dark robed interference. Since the evolution is nature based, the static nature of light aether might prevent the Amaro from growing wild over a longer period of time than on the source where Aether is more or less balanced. Furthermore, the Amaro also had their own 'Tenzen' in Ardbert as well as a few races on the First who treated the creatures well. Hence, they wouldn't have much reason to rage in the first place.
      The Vidral got the short end of the stick. No humans to bond with, just Vipers to kill them. No community like the Auspices since the Vidral are drunk on power and highly independent.

    It'd be nice if the world gave us a phrase for an animal/creature who "exceeded their lifespan over a 100 years but have yet to reach the 'ascendance' threshold that would name them auspice/vidraal/etc." because that's a very long descriptor but still is sometimes a relevant point.
    As an aside, we have another example of an animal who gained sentience/sapience from aging and aether that isn't from the Far East or West, via Aloalo variant NPC. Don't remember how old Kalika the bird is, but we know the place was abandoned only a century ago.

    One hypothesis for auspices I have chewed on that doesn't have a lot of evidence might be if a human soul is occasionally reborn into an animal. We know that some of the souls of humans were reborn as fairy shards on the First, even before the Flood of Light (Beq Lugg being the prime example of Master Matoya''s shard counterpart.) Since human souls can be shoved into animals, and animal souls shoved into humans (thanks to the untheatrical experiments at the Field Station) to grant them bonus powers, what if such a thing occasionally happened in a natural process from the aetherial sea? A human soul reborn into a tiger that gradually gained consciousness, and with that, lived beyond its lifespan?
    Note that we DON'T have any evidence of auspice or vidraal type creatures on the First, or on the Thirteenth, or from what little we've seen of the shard from Alexander. It might require a Source soul (human or animal) for them to start gaining their sentience.

    I postedmy theory in the last v8deo, but to recap, i suspect it's lingering will in the ambient aether. Enough people in Hingashi and Doma all have the legends of the kami and yokai in their thoughts, deep in the back of their minds, even if they rule then off as childhood stories. If a creature spends too much time in this aether, it effects them, changes them, and they begin fo take on the effects of the Yokai and Kami of those thoughts and beliefs, similar to Primals. As for predisposition, mostly agree with your findings. The newly formed Auspices are found and taught by the Four Lords, who wish to spread the peace Tenzen sacrifices himself for. This leads to them training the new auspices to control themselves and is why nearly all the ones we meet are with the Lords in Hells Kier.
    Similarly, Tural has a much more aggressive and combative history with the leader being picked from amount the strongest two headed Mamool Ja, even invading other lands to prove their abilities. This more violent ambient aether lead the Tural Vidraal to being much more aggressive creatures of Turali legend, and they had no mellowing influence, as you surmised. Glad to see our thoughts are similar on the mater.

    Ive been mulling over this topic since the release of dawntrail but it never occurred to me to consider Tenzen's influence and i think youre absolutely right.
    I also wondered why auspice and vidraal never seem to pop up in eorzea and i think what you brought up at the end about creatures like behemoths and dragons might give weight to why they dont seem to be around aldenard at all. But that probably is pure conjecture. Still so much we dont really know...

      when we eventually are able to go to Merycidia we will know if factors like apex predators play a role or not as we know Bahamuts and Tiamats brood calls that land home. So if they have something similar to a Vidraal there we can safely rule that out as a factor. in the event of there being a similar creature making Eorzea unique then my thoughts are on how dense and chaotic the aether is on Eorzea just prevents it from happening. That OR the Twelve who we know were regulating Aether were just preventing it from happening but considering how much Aether Eorzea has compared to other places I feel that the quality of it is more important than the quantity

    Maybe this is due to rejoinings? They unlock their potential and go part of the way, but are unable to reach true highs due to world being incomplete in a way? And so the ones in the east have found an alternative solution-guidance, companionship, and ara-mitama cleansing. Similar to WoL being many times rejoined but not quite the complete ancient, yet in these new circumstances found a way to battle and defeat Endsinger. So we see sort of evolution in action, and different paths it might take, given the new normal and natural selection.

Ok, I know the Auspices have a chance to act with their intelligence, the sidequests with them proven as such, but I've yet to hear any of the vidraal having the same amount of time to be the same before giving into their madness. By befriending the Four Lords, Tenzen may have planted the seeds of Auspice society in Yangxia.
    It’s not unreasonable to assume that each of them either sought out or observed nascent Auspices over time, and provided mentorship and camaraderie so they could direct their developing powers toward a more productive and introspective end. Not only did these new Auspices develop into stewards of the land, but they also learned different languages, read literature, formed their own cultures, and developed their own philosophies. In turn, these newer Auspices probably returned the favor by doing the same, ensuring a sort of continuity of stewardship and guidance for any up-and-coming Auspice.
    Conversely, the lack of a Tenzen-like figure in Tural meant that the Vidraal had no substitute for any of this. The Viper job quests show that they are capable of understanding speech and cooperating with others to achieve a shared goal. I wonder how different things might have been if there had been a Turali Tenzen in the distant past?

    My idea of how they came to be is some form of convergent evolution. Much like the races of the source, and the ancients before them, must have evolved into the powe and knowledge they wielded, perhaps the tural are too, and this is the first step on that evolution, or the whole step, because magic. If there weren’t other sentient races around, they might have started forming their own societies. This theory is Not too out landish considering similar things have happened on our planet before, and a lot of the background science of eorzea, while different in mechanic, functions similarly (dynamis, dark energy, gravity etc)

    I'm not so sure about the Ancients part. They made creatures, yes, but there were normal animals back then already. And I cant remember having seen a red panda or fox up in Elpis. That might not say much, since its implied, Elpis is bigger than we can see, but I'm inclined to believe this anormality is "normal" in the natural world of FF14.
    That being said, thanks for this exposé :) I have long since wondered why the Vidraal without exception have this violent streak, despite the fact they are so similar to the Auspices in the Far East... Though I wonder if Tenzen is the only thing that changed matters... What about a vidraal that is cleansed of its rage, like what we do with (three of) the Four Lords? I mean, we just kill the vidraal, but maybe if we let them live, they might calm down? - Its also noteworthy to point out, that all the Four Lords take human form when doing battle - unlike the Vidraal. This would point to your theory of Tenzen's import...
    As for how an Auspice/Vidraal is created or born... I dont think its an excess of ambient Aether. If that was the case, the Isle of Haam would be full of them, as would Eorzea/Aldenard: the continent blessed with an abundance of Aether - yet no stories of powerful beasts. Sure, maybe its dragons and behemoths, but dragons live in a rather secluded corner of Eorzea and Behemoths are so rare you dont see them in the open world (at least, I didnt). Also, there are no stories of vidraal from Ilsabard, and both Othard and Ilsabard are known for having less ambient Aether in general. Also, Tural isnt free of big apax predators themselves, if Koana's story with that armed raptor is any indication. - My guess, with Tenzen in mind, would be that the vidraal turn feral (I dont mean the Aramitama) for the simple fact that they are surrounded by feral creatures and animals. Though they have hightend senses and self-awareness, that alone is not enough. They need to learn what to do with it, an example if you will... Would be cool if the Auspices of the Far East get wind of the Vidraal and come visit to investigate - and we go on an adventure with them to find no-yet-crazy vidraal to teach to stay sane. That would be a story I'd be down for :)
