They said his arms weren't out because he was going for a chest mark, but before he chose to leave the ground, his hands weren't open to try and mark the ball, they were clenched and his arms were already tucked before he left the ground. Honestly lucky to.only get one week. But hey, ya know, Toby Tax,
He knew he was never gona get there in time to mark without wiping out his opponent, you can see by the way he approaches, in which case he should have just backed off or purely swung for the ball, missed and lost the mark.
well, Bombers didn't challenge it, probably based on the video footage showing Redman intentionally making contact to his opponents face. The AFL classed it as low impact (which is the lowest on the grading) that's 1 match suspension. It doesn't really look like Hogan got Young (though not for lack of trying) as Youngs head doesn't seem to move (until it was Oscar season), if Hogan had have got Young then even a GWS challenge wouldn't save him from an unavoidable 2 match suspension
whatever happened to the law attempted striking ? serious question. i think the afl is failing the public. so i can just take a swing at someone on the street in a pub or on a bus and that is cool ????
Seen a headline the other week, "protecting the brownlow". Couldn't agree more with ths other than the fact they forgot to miss the coleman medal part. Putrid AFL.
Sam Powell-Pepper got 4 weeks for arguably nothing, Peter Wright gets 4 for his collision and GWS are saying based on those Green should be free to play nothing to see here? wow....The more you replay the incident the more it appears TG was never going to make it to that contest - still chose to jump and got the head - 4 weeks min, the fat the Carlton player got up and continued to play should be irrelevant.
Afl: we protect the head, unless the offending player plays for one of the teams we want to see do well, or polls lots of brownlow votes, or is a high profile player, or it happens before a final or grand final...unless 1 or more of those things apply, the head is very fragile & we are here to protect it at all costs
Fine is sufficient, but why punish the person on the receiving end? If we're worried about lower leagues and kids, get all that unnecessary roughing up out.
They need to stop the punches, as one will accidentally make contact and do some damage and then everyone will be saying it should have been stopped a long time ago,..blah blah blah. Just say no wild punches, no punches at all towards the face/head and if you do, you will get suspended,..end of😉 See how quickly the players will adjust and it will be a thing of the past. But the afl is way too weak, as they love the grey areas too much, so they can manipulate its rules🤯
I love Toby Greene, one of my favourite players of all time. When you look at this current incident in real time, he should get off. When you look at the replay a hundred times, you think wow Toby could get a couple. I think in this case Toby should get off; the other player has a duty of care to themselves. That's my opinion. I agree with panel on Hogan. Lewis Young was hardly touched, his head was either not touched at all or grazed so gently that it didn't even wobble, after Young noticed contact was close he throws his head back, shocked these two are so up in arms about it. If he makes contact then yeah, put him up against a firing squad for all I care. Greene, well tale as old as time. Player elects to leave the ground, realises they aren't going to win the contest, turn their body to "brace/protect" themself and wipes out opponent who TRULY has eyes for the ball. Why is it always the player in the air who braces? Any examples of a player in a contest like this not leaving the ground, and wipes out his aerial opponent? Stop being late to a contest, if you're late to the contest stop jumping, if you're late and choose to jump, stop protecting yourselves like softies and maintain your attack on the footy.
I'm a lions fan and even I think its fair that Hogan got off, Hewett punched neale closed fist in the jaw and got a fine. If that sets the standard then Hogan shouldnt get suspended for a lighter open handed hit
