This video gets a BIG thumbs up! Finger Lakes! Ithaca! I have been there many times! Moosewood Restaurant! I just drove by the state parks on my way to the wineries. I had no idea! I am a member of Harvest Hosts. I stay overnight for free at member wineries. My rig is self-contained. I love where I can stay overlooking one of the lakes. Then I come out of the winery with $100 worth of wine in my RV. I know... Next time I go I will check out these state parks, maybe after I go to the wineries. Priorities. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks Leslie. There are many state parks around the lakes. The ones on the south ends are the prettiest. And Letchworth has been named as prettiest(?) in the US once. Not sure I agree, but its nice at the southern end. Too bad they charge to get into the parks for the day! New York Taxes Everything but food and drugs !!
Wow, incredibly beautiful water falls and scenery. I wish TH-cam had a star rating system so that I could give 5 stars to your video. I did the next best thing and clicked the Like button 5 times.
Thank you too! And I do love the historical items at these places. Civil War stuff doesn't thrill me, I'm not into war. But machinery and the ways they made their work more efficient is fascinating!
Another great video of our Finger Lakes region in upstate NY. It was great to finally meet up you at Robert Treman State Park. I'm so glad you and Akela took the time out to visit with me at my camp. Sounds like you have some ambitious plans to tour New England this summer. Enjoying the second video each week, trying to keep up with your travels. Please let us know ahead of time, if you're back in the area. Thanks again for the visit!
Great video!! Yes the CCC started in 1933 my grandfather was a CCC enrollee he still had his 1938 Green Dress uniform. Lovely state park was there as a kid in the early 70s don’t truly remember anything but the water falls. Loved how you showcased the park well done.
Thank You James. I believe the Work Progress Admin (WPA) was 1933. The CCC was formed there after but I'm sure it took a while to get the gov rolling along. They were also fighting the Dustbowl out int the panhandle of OK.
Very beautiful video. A really nice area. Thank you Rick for sharing this visit to your old stomping grounds. Akela was wanting to play in the stream so bad. It's a truly spectacular place. 🙏🙏❤️❤️🐾🐾✌️☕
What a beautiful video. Briefly visited Buttermilk Falls State Park many years ago but didn't realize the extent of the falls. My husband was on oxygen at the time so we couldn't hike. It is so nice to see what all is there. I really enjoy visiting these lovely spots courtesy of you and Akela. Thank you!
Hi Rick. This was a pleasant surprise. Grew up in Seneca Falls at the north end of Cayuga Lake and spent much of my youth visiting the "gorgeous" falls of this part of Upstate NY. Moved to the northwest years ago (U of W college of Forestry) and would bring my kids back home to see the NY state parks. One of their favorite memories was walking up the stream from the parking lot to the base of Taughannock Falls on a very hot and humid summer day. And of course the trails at Watkins Glen. As for one of your most recent posts about boondocking sites being shut down, it is happening all over the west too. We have major cleanups in the National Forests and BLM lands out here and can't keep up with garbage and trash being left behind. It's a real shame. Would love to see you out here at one of our Chalet A-frame roundups (We always get a few Aliners). You have a rather large following out here.
Hello way out there!! I may get out there in a year or two. I have too many plans in the green forests of the east and northern US. And I'm working hard on the Wolf Pup to get it up and running for my trip around the Michigan UP in the Fall of 2024. My kids are even trying to screw that up by getting married and having babies! Tough to get around the country if yo have to come back for little family events!! But we are keeping everything open for the future. I just may have to live to 112!! Thanks for the comment, Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Watkins Glen is really cool, but also the most crowded of all the finger lakes parks. Best to go in early winter before they close the trail due to ice.. Thanks Pete!
Thanks for sharing. I spent a lot of time here during my days at Cornell. One place that folks miss is the beautiful covered bridge between the two parks in Newfield. Next time you are there check it out, it is easy to find and explore too, oldest still in use in NY.
Yes I know that bridge. I've driven by it at least 1000 times. I know of at least 2 others in the state, I'll have to see what their dates are. The one in Jay Ny I believe they removed (by Flood) and replaced it with a concrete one. But I think they used orig. timbers for the covering. Thanks for the grreat comment !!
Nice one, Rick! Beautiful area. If ever I get back up there, I'll be sure to visit. In fact, we may be heading up to the northeast in the fall. It's been a long time since we've seen the gorgeous colors of autumn.
Yes it is. And I'm going to try and get back up into the ADK Aug 14-18th if the weather holds out. Going to try for Horseshoe lake, but may need to do Eaton Lake or Moose River. Hoping its a bit cooler than when I was there in July!
@@GoingNoWhereFast Just so you know, Horseshoe is under construction. They are redoing the Lower dam. The DEC has closed sites 6, (on the road to the dam) 7, 8, and 10. Site 7 is on the lake by the railroad tracks and site 8 is just on the other side of the tracks. Sites 1,2,3,4,5 (walk in) and 9 are open but are taken most of the time. I'm going to try for site 2 on August 9-14......
I understand they are doing maintenance on the lower Lowes Lake Damn, below Hitchings pond. They are using the campsites at Horseshoe for canoist and Kayakers to park so they can walk the 2 miles to the upper damn of Lowes Lake. Looks like the 3 campsites near Otter Brook Rd are reserved for car parking. Site 1 is my favorite site as it's all alone and the lake is right there if it isn't flooding the campsite. Its also in the shade, which isn't great for solar, but I think I can make my battery last 3-4 days.
That would be cool! I’m moving through New York again this month. Where are you located? I’ll be at Lewey lake in the Adirondacks the week of August 15.
Great video Rick. New York is so beautiful in its natural state north to south and east to west . It is so sad the politics makes the people want to leave . Hope the body is behaving it's self.
Oh, I don't know. Sometimes a place can get too over crowded. New York is right sizing for its population. Some day it may again be a gated community for just thieves and Robber barons like it was in the 1920's.
They assume the proof of residence is part of the ReserveAmerica process. And I've been asked a couple times for rabies certificates. Once they even noticed that it had expired 2 years earlier. But I had a newer one. Just forgot to throw out the old certificate.

BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you so much! And its only a small part of what's in the Finger Lakes
That was fantastic and beautiful!! So lush and green. The power of water is amazing. Thank you for this video.
Glad you enjoyed it! I love going there ! Truly my pleasure.
Absolutely astounding waterfalls. Thanks for showing these NY parks opened up by the CCC. 😊

Wow, thank you!😊 I hope it counts!!
Love the waterfalls! Makes a person want to go there and stay awhile. The machinery is very interesting. Thanks for a beautiful video.

We used to go up to Bath, N.Y., as well as Watkins Glen, during the 60's and 70's.. while we lived in Brooklyn, NY..
Ellenville.
Watkins Glen is really cool, but also the most crowded of all the finger lakes parks. Best to go in early winter before they close the trail due to ice.. Thanks Pete!

I may end up there in October. Best part of the ADK is late Sept. Cold Nights and cool Mornings and awesome nice warm afternoons!
Last week I was just in the Finger Lake area.......about 40 minutes north of Ithaca....Fillmore Glen.....really a interesting and spectacular area
Yes it is. And I'm going to try and get back up into the ADK Aug 14-18th if the weather holds out. Going to try for Horseshoe lake, but may need to do Eaton Lake or Moose River. Hoping its a bit cooler than when I was there in July!

Beautiful Parks. I live near Letchworth State Park. I had some Uncles that were in the CCC.
Very cool. Its so cool to have connections that allow you to know a more personal story. I hope they told you about those days!
BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is a great video!
Thank you James. It's a great place.
We took our Aliner up there last year, stayed at Letchworth and Watkins Glen. Watkins Glen feels like walking onto the set of the Lord of the Rings.
Ya, its very cool. You should see it in ice!! Its incredibly scary!!
Looks like fun there! Wish we could meetup and camp together! Really like your taste!

Did vou move back to new york ?I used to follow you when you lived in cental n y.
Nope, just back for a visit during the summer. It seems to rain here all the time.
All NYS campgrounds require rabies certificates for your pets. We’ve never been asked for proof of residence.
