  • Traveling to NY this summer? Do you love waterfalls? Ithaca NY is waterfall heaven.
    We kick off Season 2 with a trip to Ithaca NY to rank the top 8 of the 150 Waterfalls in the 10 sq miles that make up that community. Our AWESOME friends were kind enough to let us moochdock in their drive way as well as play tour guide. We had a blast, though it was tough picking just 8 waterfalls to show you.

    I've been to Ithica Falls, Buttermilk Falls, and twice to Taughannock Falls. Taughannock Falls is my favorite waterfall that I have seen. I've seen about 45 waterfalls in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Thank for the video. Great job.

    I grew up in Union Springs on the NE end of Cayuga Lake. Lots of water features there too. Ithaca was where it was at! We could slide down the mossy rocks of Buttermilk and splash into the cool swimming hole. July 1970 stood at the base of Taughannock Falls and watched a thunder and lightening summer storm. TKS!

    You do a nice job highlighting some of the area. People really don't know this area. I went to Cornell and very few people really know how nice this area really is.
    The scenery is absolutely stunning. The water is freezing but on a super hot day it's great.

    Thanks for this video. I have a passion for meditating under waterfalls. I just came from Cummins waterfalls in TN which are breathtaking and I had an exceptional experience. However, I am still looking for more waterfalls to explore and enjoy. I find your informative video very helpful. Much appreciated.

      Check the health reports if the family wants to swim in those that you can (number is in the video). They have to close to swimming periodically and that can be a disappointment (as we found out). Otherwise it's a great trip, especially if you have two days and can walk the paths. ENJOY 😉

    Enfield Falls at Robert Treman Park is a great place to swim!! We've swam at Ithaca Falls in less-restrictive days, but probably won't be able to any more. Cascadilla Falls is a tall hike, but it's beautiful. Taughannock Falls is FANTASTIC!! 30 years ago, we walked in from the parking lot at the end of the falls trail, when there was no enforcement of the "no swimming" rule, and we went swimming in the plunge pool. It was SO COLD, but after you went numb, it was great. We got directly under the falls, and water falling 215 feet hits your back and shoulders with considerable force. I wish we could still do it, but I'm told the fines are quite steep/not worth it.

    Around 11:00 you mentioned "hiking" to Lucifer Falls, but please be aware that by following the road that you turned off to enter the lower RHT park you can drive to the upper park and walk the trail through a truly beautiful grotto along Enfield Creek to Lucifer Falls. As a bonus you can visit an historic gristmill with interpretive signs. Hope that you get to visit again.
    By the way, between college years "In The Summer Of '69" I worked on the small crew that built the original footbridge and observation area below Taughannock Falls that you show around 17:00.

    Great video, and magnificent waterfalls! 30 years ago, when Taughannock Falls was not well-patrolled and the Overlook store and personnel didn't exist, my wife and I swam in the pool beneath the falls. It was C-O-L-D, but eventually you went numb, and then it was great! Strangely enough, the water coming down in the falls was warmer than the pool below it, but getting hit by water falling 215 feet was a bit rough. You'd probably get tossed out of the park with an expensive ticket if you did that today, but it was a memory I'll never forget.

    Nice work guys! This must have taken a lot of effort. The eleven Finger Lakes offer wonderful outdoor vistas and attractions - and more than 100 wineries! If time allows, you must visit Letchworth State Park about two hours west of Ithaca at Mt. Morris, NY south of Rochester (easily accessible off Interstate 390). With a huge concrete gravity dam - largest east of the Mississippi River - and a 17-mile-long, 500' tall in places gorge with three waterfalls of the Genesee River dropping more than 230 feet total - Letchworth is often referred to as 'The Grand Canyon of the East.' At the Middle Falls is the Glen Iris Inn, worthy of a lunch or dinner visit, and they also have guest rooms! A history museum is there as well. Fall is a great time to visit with all the beautiful colors!

    I enjoyed your show about our beautiful waterfalls around Ithaca, NY. I am retired from a career with the Finger Lakes Region of NY State Parks. (I worked in our regional office at Taughannock Falls State Park.)
    I produce a local public access television series in Ithaca called Walk in the Park. It is shown on our local cable channel. Our station manager ran across your Ithaca waterfalls video and suggested that I might want to include it in my show. I like your video and I would like to ask permission to download and include most of it in an episode of my show at some point. You can see examples of my episodes at my website ( walkinthepark.tv ). I have produced 230 episodes, most of which are also online as well as on TV. In your case, I would produce my episode for local cablecast and I would link to your video on my website for those out of the area or who do not have a local cable connection who would like to see it. I would not upload my episode with your video included in it to TH-cam or Vimeo, but instead just link to your video.
    What do you think? (You can reply to my email address below.)
    I would want some sort of model release permission statement regarding your grandchildren(?) in your video. Perhaps that would have to come from a parent? I suppose an email from them to that effect would be sufficient.
    Happy travels,

    Taughannock Falls (pro: "Tah-gan-nock") is actually in Trumansburg, NY, not Ithaca. In fact it's not even located in the town of Ithaca or anywhere near the Ithaca city limits.

      But still in Tompkins County, generally considered "The Greater Ithaca Area" to visitors (I was a T-burger that moved around the state during my career).

    • @3sons66
      @3sons66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@douglas_drew "Greater Ithaca Area". LOL. So I guess Dryden and Groton are all the greater Ithaca area?? 🤣

    • @douglas_drew
      @douglas_drew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@3sons66 Absolutely, just as Taughannock Falls is not in Trumansburg though it is definitely in "the greater Trumansburg area" (Town of Ulysses). Few outsiders (nor many insiders) understand our village, city, or town borders, just as many can't envision our county borders, but in my travels around New York State most people knew of "Ithaca", so as an ambassador for my home area I always started with "Born in Ithaca and raised in Thompkins County". Then I get the great pleasure of engaging in further conversation if they are really interested.
