Dude, this is great! I was looking for resources for a new piano student of mine (adult in his 20s), who is pretty much an intermediate level player with a good basic understanding of chords and inversions/voicings, and I decided that learning jazz was going to be the most helpful next step for him. I chose "Autumn Leaves" as the first tune to work on, because that was the first tune *I* learned in college jazz courses, for chord theory and creating bass lines, etc. I started my student with simpler chords (triads and 7s), and left-hand arpeggios to fill in the long spaces. This video lesson is a great next step, and I told him to watch it! Do you have any videos that teach ear-training? Interval recognition, learning to hear chord progressions, etc? Or any recommendations for a good resource? A book or app? (There are a couple of apps that I've recommended to students, but am not really thrilled with either of them.)
I like your walking bass line so much I'm going to write it down! There are other youtubers that provide a PDF for free to download the lesson. Can you please do that for these? Thanks for a great video!

i'm really confused over the rootless voicings. how can they be called the chords they're called when many add a 9th and stuff that aren't even in the chord that's marked down? can someone help?
Isn’t A to D up a fourth? Cycle of 4ths ala 2 5 1 you’ve said this in other posts bugs me. C to G to D to A is fifths!! If you look at the progression backwards it’s 5ths
Thomas Radcliffe Replying late, but maybe you’re still interested: UP a FOURTH equals DOWN a FIFTH. Some people call it cycle of fourths while others say cycle of fifths. It’s exactly the same thing though.

its so boring listen to when you play on that plastic device. You can really hear the sound of when you press down the notes. You are a great pianist. Use a real piano !
Johnny has the luxury of knowing he can afford to invest in such things, because his living is off of it. However, for the rest of us, who are just amateurs and enthusiasts, we don't have that kind of money, and we can't justify the purchase of such a luxury. Why do you scorn it as a "plastic device"? For those aspiring musicians, that "plastic device" is the only thing they have, and they are glad to have it.
@@jpg6296 I don't understand how you connect salery with instrument. What I just ment was that a musician like him should play on a real instrument, a "piano". I dont think you've ever seen for exampel a profisional classical pianist play on a keyboard.
