I thought I'd listened to every version of this song out there, but then I discovered this one, and it might be the best yet! Thanks for uploading it, and rest in peace, Hamish.
This man was one of the best acts in the early folk scene and played folk clubs all over the country ,,,,,a jovial character that was blessed with a brilliant style that suited his style of guitar ,,,,,,I booked him a few times and he was always very accommodating when it came to payment of his fee ,,,,,,,I remember once we hadn’t changed the two Bob bits and half croons intae pound notes ,,,,,,just pile it aw in there son was his reply ,,,,I think he was normally around twenty five pounds ,,,,,so it was an awful lot of “ smash “ to carry around with ,,,,RIP you were definetly taken far too soon ,,,,,but your music lives on
Paul Byrne I think I'd have to agree with that, he must have been a man who truly loved these songs , the feeling comes through the music almost like you were there 101 years ago to see the real events that Easter time.
Never heard Hamish's version of this. Goosebumps. The Scottish Luke Kelly. Wrote some brilliant songs too
