    Thanks for the review! I had this one for a couple months now and I love it. I feel like paying that much for a ramping up and down paired with a timer is perfect to not stress my little buddies out.
    I literally went through so many lights and research just to come to this one's features. Sadly it's not cost friendly :\ You do great work in your reviews, keep it up man, love watching them!

      Are you using the remote and the functions and the different colours and the thunder storm effects ? Or just when you throw a party and need a disco lamp or a strobe light ? How long and how often you leave on the yellow or the green a day? Do you use the red in the morning or just at night ? May be the blue or the purple ? How good your plants grow in those condition ? Do your fry or baby fishes grow stronger and healthier when the thunder effect is on or when you feeding them you use the strobe light effect ?

    Bought this exact light 2 months ago and absolutely enjoy the various settings. My 30-gal tank has a lot of plants (for black mollies, red wag platys). What setting is best to keep the algae down? Does your tank in the video have 2 power filters?

  • @ahofftn

    I really like the "ramp up - ramp down" feature. I would like to see a nice light with not so many features other than that one. As it is I always try to turn on room lights first, then tank lights. Otherwise my Filament Barbs (Dawkinsia filamentosa) bounce off the walls! Thanks for a nice review.

    • @Gabor.P.
      @Gabor.P. 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you imagine what would they do if you want to freak them out more with the strobe light that doing the thunder storm ? lol Or if you have a breeding pair of discus and gets scared and jump and all the fry scatter all over and perish. The disco effect and the remote makes them so expensive but instead they should built in a dimmer effect half hour or 1 in the morning and at night. Till then the T5 is here to stay. Sadly this is when a money maker makes these product and not the aquarist and taking into consideration the fish and the plants cause other then the full spectrum what other function the fish or the plants would benefit from the expensive useless disco lamp ! lol

    • @pecktec
      @pecktec  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I went through the whole process in the video. I did have it stop going on and off once when I was messing with the settings. This interrupts the timer for some reason. But there is a resume button (or something like that I'll have to go look again) that will start the program for the timer up again.

  • @Gabor.P.
    @Gabor.P. 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Sean and Charlie #1 ! I can see you like the new disco lamp ! But honestly what good it does other then the full spectrum for the fish and plants to come on and turn off. When you gong to use the freak out your fish causing them stress with thunder storm or blue yellow and green even red lights. It's all about making money not for the fish nor the plants. Heck it's like millions of years fishes and plants enjoyed the sun rise and going down and no disco. At thunder storm periodically but for plants in necessary and the fishes hides or swims down deeper where there is no lightning strikes in the night. Also with moon lights where they become pray to those that can see and hunt by eyesight. It's only money making who ever thought is good for fishes and plants. But at least the first addition is now that can be on the timer. May be next time they do a dimmer in it instead of those disco feature. May be they should make the under water speakers and may be we can teach our fish to dance to disco or may be to tango. So as evolution takes time before the T5 lamp goes out of style and the timer and some dimmer. Too bad the neon couldn't be dimmed. They may do a program that half an hour or 1 hour dimmer come on in the morning and fades away at night. But who knows may be 1 day an aquarist is going to make that light what we need and not a money maker who thinks or stock in the 70's 80's disco era with those fleshing lights and strobe lights. But hey for free I would take it and just only use the full spectrum setting and the timer then I throw away the remote. I wonder what would you stock your next tank Sean ? May be do like viewers choice of course the option there for you to over ride the selection. Like the judge on Trumps immigration order. lol Oh and bring back Charlie cause he likes Co-Op Cory as many of us do !
    PS: Do a blooper with music and you dance as the disco fish tank lights fleshing and having fun and may be the fishes do some synchronised swimming ! lol

    Look for a TC420 LED (5 channels) controller , add a few (rigid) strips of 5630 leds (available in red , blue , green , warm white and cool white and a 12V DC power supply (order according to your needs )and voila , you created your own aquarium led system.
    The solution in this vid is good for the meek aquarist that want a system out of the box and to lazy to stimulate their own creativity.
    I run my tanks with the controller at a ratio of 3 x 6700 K (cool white)+ 2 x blue + 1 x red , lengths of the strips can be adjusted to what you need ( lengthen or cut).
    EBAY is a great place to investigate , it will blow this system away at less than half the cost and it's a nice puzzle to get your brain going.
    I don't care to much about flashy gimmicks , i.e. thunderstorms , they add no value.

    • @pecktec
      @pecktec  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +planet4allofus sometimes I feel like glueing a bunch of shit together from eBay sometimes I don't. There are all kinds of ways to be creative. It doesn't make you meek or lazy. Sheesh I'm all for DIY when your willing but give me a break with this high horse BS. I'm sure you crafted a wonderful light. Go make a video about it and leave me alone.

    • @erilocrown
      @erilocrown 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How much will all of the things you mention cost? Including the soldering device and voltage meter that I don't own and skill to solder. How is the warranty on the leds, the controller and such. How many red, blue, green leds do I need to fully simulate sun light. Which spectrum settings are needs to achieve this? Will it looks as nice, clean and slim as the lighting system shown in this video? Does it have a remote? Can you give me over 1500 reviews from people that use this system, exactly this system, that have used this DIY product? Is it PAR tested? How much will it cost to get it PAR tested? How much time will I loose to do all the mentioned things? How much stress will I get learning all of this? Once I've learned this new skill how often will I apply it in my life?
      Not wanting to build a DIY has nothing to do with being lazy or not. It's cool that you can do that but it isn't for most of us. And thunderstorm option isn't a flashy thing. There are fish that will only breed during a thunderstorm or release their fry.

    • @planet4allofus
      @planet4allofus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No soldering required if you don't want , they come with leads.
      If you want to know how many red blue white is required , everyone (including the experts) have a different opinion , best solution is copy the experts or the fixture you're looking at , the TC420 can modify the light intensity of 5 channels individually , adjust to your liking.
      5 meters (15 ft) of 6700 Kelvin runs about $22,- delivered , including aluminium housing and clear cover.
      The TC420 unit is about $30,- if you want to modify the intensity of 5 colors individually , otherwise a dimmer of $4,- will do the job.
      A 12v power supply (similar to the one on a laptop) is approx. $8,- for 72 watts.
      For a grand total of $34,- for 15 ft of lighting.
      I would use 2 rows on a tank up to 12" high and 3 rows on an 18" for every 12" of width for medium light plant requirement.
      And 99.99% of aquarists will not breed fish that need the flashy gimmick.
      If it's too much work ( and I don't see it as work but more as a fun project) , don't bother and spend your $200,- on an of the shelf unit that uses the same LED's (Samsung , EpiLed) believe me , they don't make their own.
      If you already have a hood , just tape them to the inside.
      If not , get some alu "U" channel (¾") and a sheet of ¼" project board and cut it to fit your tank.
      You won't have the annoying light shine above your tank that way.
      The choice is yours , I'll place some designs on GRABCAD soon for the DIY'er.

    • @dutchman9276
      @dutchman9276 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      planet4allofus you convinced me at the "tape it to the inside".
      Again $200 is peanuts for a device that has been proven to work correctly.
      Your Lego / tape system might be cheaper and a solution for some but not for everyone.

    • @planet4allofus
      @planet4allofus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great , buy it , the LED strips in that unit will be "taped" as well :P.
      $200,- ( no , it's way more for the 36") peanuts .
      The DIY solution is obviously not for you , as $200,- is peanuts.
      No use wasting your time putting something together yourself.
