CRF150R 2020 Engine Rebuild / Left Crankcase & Cover Replacement

- Here is our quick video of hours of work so far trying to repair CRF150R 2020. We got it damaged and hope to bring it back to life.
This is just engine rebuild/fixing. We have a lot to do still.
We are not professionals at all and are lucky to get this far.

You ⚠️ MUST follow Honda 2007-2020 CRF150R Service Manual.
You have to also need to do your own research and homework as service manual is not easy to read.
We used several resources (forums, youtube.com and service manual) to progress through this project on our own.
You should replace all gaskets and seals that you disturb. In some cases you might need to replace them.
We got all our parts from motosport.com
20+ seals and gaskets, left crankcase and left crankcase cover.
Crankcase does come with smallest needle bearings but you still need to replace or reuse your other bearings. Pullers didn’t work. We used a heat gun and bearing driver kit to get the bearing out.
It is the same concept to remove bearings and then place them back in. Pain in the neck, however. That was the most difficult part of the project. The hot/cold trick did not work for us.
Second most difficult part is to be sure follow each step religiously including precise alignment of gears, torque requirements, etc.
You will need a torque tool or wrench, breaker bar, impact wrench, oils, grease, small 8mm wrench, etc

Sorry :) We were worried on messing it up and did not record video yet took pictures of steps, but you should take same steps in the dissemble video but backwards to put it all back. We are NOT pros 😊. Biggest issue was replacing bearings. Hot/Cold technique did not work for us unfortunately. Careful brute force did. Right tools are vital. Also, a good thing to note, the new crankcase comes with some tiny and deep shaft bearing already, so you do not need to buy or worry about taking them out and put new ones in. Thanks! I hope the price was right- that's a bunch of work, and for only one year, that's a lot of damage. I'm guessing you put in a new top end? valves, piston, seals?
No New Top End. The engine was in pristine condition inside. You have to replace all seals and gaskets, however. Anything you disturb. Follow the service manual to be sure. You have to re-grease, re-oil as well. Follow all torque specifications. Also, we made a mistake on mixing shims causing an issue with valves clearance. That caused the bike having issues to start and run smoothly. Make sure before removing you know what shim goes where, the order is important, or calculate each shim thickness or/and clearance before installing back. Specification also can be found in service manual.
Price? Lol, at the end it was like getting a new bike. However! You cannot put a price tag on father and son do cool stuff together project

Hey I have to replace the left side case on an 07 150r. What do you think I’ll need besides the new case. Just a left side gasket and that’s it?
Hey. I believe so.
You will need the case itself - 11340-KSE-671 COVER, L. CRANKCASE.
And the gasket - 11395-KSE-671 GASKET, L. COVER.
You may also change o-ring for the filter and the oil dipstick o-ring if you like. Make sure to pay attention to service manual. Good luck.
What tool did you use to separate the cases
If I recall, after disconnecting everything we had to tap it with rubber mallet to help to separate. You can use plastic prying tools also

Honda Build, Honda tough 😊. If you do not drop the engine’s case on the hard surface, it will be OK. And Make sure you check your fluids, especially coolant. This is a liquid-cooled engine. Check your fluids before each ride and follow service manual for maintenance. Honda’s engines are some of the best. You may need to rebuild top end and/or re-shim but I think that’s if you are in competitive sport and put hours and more stress to the bike. Recreational use for fun here and there - regular maintenance should suffice, in my opinion. It will give you years of fun and reliability. Thanks for stopping by 🙏! Stay safe!

how do you get the swingarm bolt i can’t get it off the 150 rb it’s like stuck
Hey. I believe we used a cordless impact wrench or a breaker bar to get the leverage to loosen the bolt. After we used other side of beaker bar and rubber mallet to kick that shaft bolt out of it. Hope it helps. Good luck.

We are replacing the crank on a 2008 crf150r we already changed it we just need the torque specs for all the bolts,any recommendations which sites you found some info about the torque specs?
