I am very new to tablet weaving and am so glad I found your channel this early in my weaving journey. You are clear with your explanations, interesting to listen to, have a lovely sense of humour, and simply delightful to watch at work. This band looks fantastic, and while I am new at this craft, I am going to attempt to make it (when my loom arrives on Monday - 2 sleeps yay!). I went to my very first Medieval Fair last weekend, here in South Australia. It has given me a whole new direction in life, and the SCA members I met there are amazing people, full of great knowledge and very friendly. Happy YT anniversary, albeit 2 years later haha
"Sometimes the rules don't make sense" has kind of been a theme here in Canada for the last year or so... I'm really looking forwards to being able to listen to the radio without screaming something inchoerent about "that's not science!"
Wonderful channel, very fun and informative! It inspires me to go back to my tablet weaving that I had found a bit challenging a few years ago. Not anymore after watching your tutorials. And I absolutely love the historical references. Thank you for all this!
What is so striking is the similarities between European tablet weaving patterns that you are showing in your videos and the double face weaving patterns found in the Andes.
An unexpected pleasure to see you today. A lovely band too. Thank you as always for your time and effort to give us this video, I really needed this today. Xx
Happy 1 year anniversary. Love all your patterns and videos. Its watching your vids that got me back into tablet weaving after nearly 20 years and this time I actually understand it. My 2nd jab is tomorrow (sunday) so soon will be fully protected as much as you can be with these things. 1st thing I'm going to when we get fully out of lockdown whatever number this is (uk) is to try and organise a little gathering of the pagan group i'm with. Not seen them for nearly a year and miss them. The weather hasn't been great so the outdoor gathering could be interesting :)
Gorgeous pattern, and double sided too! Happy TH-camaversary and a huge thank you for the last year of wonderful weaving, interesting history, humour and Smokey cameos!! Many more to come. What are we hoping for? Our government to improve the vaccine rollout!! We have been blessed with less COVID than most nations. Where would I go? Hopefully we can get up to Queensland to visit my father-in-law who is 85. Hoping you get up to see your parents very soon! 🤗🤗
Thank you for you simple explanations. I am so glad I found your site last year when stuck inside because we had to isolate. Yep we attended a dinner and someone turned out to be positive for COVID. That’s when I found your Utube and 14 days became so much more interesting. Thank goodness none of us got sick. Keep up your amazing work.
So glad you found it interesting and helpful, and even more glad that no one at the party got sick. I had a friend who delayed getting his vaccine due to a busy schedule (thought he should factor in a couple of days of downtime for the inevitable side effects) and he caught the virus a few weeks ago. He's recovering, but it was really rough.
Congratulations on your yt anniversary! I so gald i found you on episode 1 because I have been hooked since and look forward to every video you so. Thank you so much for not only well do videos and cool patters but for the history facts that go along with it. I also love the sca info to, so much so that I look forward to the day people can meet up and I can look more into the sca in person!
If I had the freedom to do anything is visit all my family and I have a huge family! Lol to go outside and chat it up with the neighbours. To go to the store and pick something up and see how squishy it is.
Oh, my goodness, Smokey having a song for each family member is adorable! And I'm really looking forward to using public transport for frivolous things like taking my dog to the beach or to the forest (we have no car so we've kind of been stuck in our town for a while).
Just wanted to say thank you! I’m new to the SCA and your videos have really helped me demystify tablet weaving. Looking forward to enjoying events in person finally, as I haven’t been to one yet! Greetings from Calontir and congratulations on your TH-cam-iversary! Mine is coming up in a few days as well 😊
That is striking! I will warp it up soon and give it a try. I will say, I'm not thrilled that it is not twist-neutral, especially in the middle of the band. Let me go look at your blog and see if you give any tips on what to do about that ... Thanks for the video, and for the whole year of fascinating videos about tablet weaving!
Happy TH-camversary! Thanks to your videos I got into tablet weaving, and now my family have been invited to join a group of Viking reenactors for a 5-day meeting in July, when lots of restrictions are likely to be lifted. (I‘ll contribute naalbinding and tablet weaving to the group activities.) That‘s something I‘m really looking forward to!
Congrats and thank you for all of these outstanding videos, and for the helpful assist on Dublin Dragons via FB groups. I definitely would not have taken to tablet weaving without your channel to turn to for helpful visuals. Books are excellent, but seeing someone do certain techniques is the best way for me personally to learn. Thank you again!
that map was funny to me...I live in Colorado but not in the yellow area...I'm closer to Kansas...what kingdom would that make me I wonder🤔 love the patterns and thank you for all the info and ideas to combat boredom this summer!!
my cards and thread are arriving in the mail tomorrow and I am so excited to follow along with one of your videos! I've wanted to learn how to do tablet weaving for years but didn't make time for it until now. I discovered your channel recently but you're definitely my favorite. Easy to follow along and your voice is honestly just so soothing and relaxing to listen to. I can't afford a regular loom right now so I'm making my own backstrap loom. Fingers crossed I do it right lol.
So I really want to start this project and read on your pattern link that I can make this twist neutral and want to clarify before starting I do pick 1-32 then 1-32 again or 32-1
This turned out so pretty! I... *ahem* Attempted to do some cardweaving... Got frustrated and stopped because I can’t do tension properly. In all my years of weaving and working with yarn, I have NEVER been able to make an even-tensioned warp! Can’t figure it out for some reason... Frustrating. If the Plague ever gets yeeted... Renfairs! Fancons! Fantasy/medieval stuffs!! Going down to Vancouver Island to visit family! I miss fresh seafood...
@@ThePhantazmya Thanks! I might try that... just a plain frame-loom on a stand? I might get my woodworker brother to make me one of them instead of an inkle loom... Which ‘level’ of weights are good?
I'm currently in the process of making my own inkle loom based on the sketches you posted on your blog! It seemed a little too big though so I decided to pretend an inch is equal to two centimeters. Now that I'm halfway done, I'm regretting that decision. Good thing I made it out of 'prototype wood' (some sort of pine littered with knots and soft as butter) so I can make design adjustments based on my needs. Anyway, thanks for the great videos and for getting me into tablet weaving!
@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 I finished my prototype and it's working really well! The pine is holding up surprisingly well and I'm currently weaving the St. Bertille pattern. I'm surprised how much easier and more relaxed weaving with a loom is compared to my attempt at backstrap weaving. The smaller size is not as much of a problem as I thought it would be but the working area is a little cramped for my Schacht cards. I might design one where I have more space while keeping it compact (or a collapsible one 🤔) but for now I'm very happy with it.
Nice pattern, I'll have to try it when I'm done with my present projects. One thing I like doing at the start when I weave a band that is either 1 sided or that I plan to attach to something so you only see one side is to place the tail somewhere in the middle of the band when starting weaving. After pulling it through completely a few times I pull it through halfways and then pull it down in the middle of the band. I find it easier to hide the thread fully when weaving it in that way.
I cannot wait to go back to in-person classes! I took a few online classes when covid first hit and really suffered so I decided to take a break from school until we can go back to campus, but my college isn't opening up until autumn next year.
Love this and congrats you your 1 year!!! Would you ever do a weaving example for us in silk? Maybe for medieval hair wraps? Also would LOVE to see more Celtic inspired knot work. Maybe like the examples in Color Coded Tablet Weaving by Mark Cook?
I did do one piece in silk--one of the Birka pieces (22, I think). It's a basket weave pattern that has that Celtic vibe (even though it was definitely Swedish). I don't think I have Mark Cook's book--it was definitely on my wish list, so I'll have to order that one!
This is amazing! Im a beginner and i am going to try this pattern. I was trying to find in other videos where you explain the red lines. Do you mind explaining that? What am I missing?
Hi! I'm new at this and have already woven a bit, but always with simple patterns that go back and forth with the card turning. This is my first complicated pattern attempt and I'm wondering, are the cards supposed to align when re-starting the pattern? would all cards align by row 16? Because mine aren't, but my pattern isn't coming along very neatly either so I'm not sure if it's supposed to happen and I made a mistake, or if my mistake is elsewhere. Thank you so much!
okay, Elewys... I found tablet weaving by accident and was inexplicably hooked. I immediately found your channel and I have been drinking in all of your videos. I love the history lessons as well. I’ve been fascinated with tablet weaving for years but have never actually tried it myself. Thanks for making these videos as the way you explained the steps makes it seem easy compared to other videos I’ve seen in the past. I do have a couple questions though. 1) What program(s) do you use to layout the design templates and can you demonstrate that process? 2) Years ago I saw a video where a woman used an Inkle loom with heddles and cards to make a wider piece of work. She was able to incorporate a center tablet woven design and on another piece two sections of tablets separated by heddles making matching designs on each side. Can you demonstrate this method? Can’t seem to find the video(s) to reference them to you.
