I've started recordig and analizing telemetry for my rFactor GT3 league sessions - as much as a non-real racing related person can, of course. After a couple of hours of learning and finding out what means what plus getting used to the program (I use Motec i2 aswell) I've improved not just my hotlap times, but also my car setups (under/oversteer, thus cornering/top speeds compared to other drivers), my tire management and my race strategy too. It's just amazing how much data you can gather! As you guys have mentioned, there could be a lot of factors that lead to time loss, which you may not notice while driving or watching the replay (like throttle/brake usage, their linearity, steering input, etc.) Great and interesting video as always, keep up the great work!
Gus Johnson Yeah, I could do that, but where's the fun if I just download the best setups, right? 😂 Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather mess up my setup and finish a couple of positions lower than go for the easy way. Then I can learn from my mistakes and overall keep getting better at it. I usually stick to my style; keeping pressure on the opposition, forcing out a mistake. But after a couple of races you might create a picture about other drivers' actions and driving styles. Then combining a couple of overtaking methods is more effective in my opinion.
Can we get more bits like this with Mr Turner? First time hearing of him, but he is perfect for this role. Friendly helpful vet with a ton of knowledge.
Carl streZZah In Assetto Corsa itself, no. But you can use external software like ACTI or Motec and you can see almost everything. Even with GTR2 you could use Motec. Ofcourse this company has the knowledge to make you a better driver.
Going green with envy here. The chance for a driving lesson with Darren Turner doesn’t come along every day. I could watch a whole series of vids like this
hehehe .. you got the turn 3 wrong .. the instructor was talking about "old" turn 2, and you cut in footage of turn 4 .. 😋 you can see this where he is pointing on the telemetry graph .. 🤓 but a great, funny, useful and very informative video .. 👍🏼
I actually never understood why I was 2 second slower than the best drivers in ACC, same braking points, same gear, same smoothness in the throtle, BUT THAT'S THE STEERING !!!!! I'm gonna pay attention of it now, thank you telemetry ! =)
After 10 min session on a sim you aren't used to, you'd have improved even without telemetry. No way you can hit your best possible lap within first 10 minutes. Not even 20. If they gave you one more run without any extra advice, I'm sure you would improve again...
@@nabilnasran8077 actually yes. If you check his telemetry, he gained basically 2 tenths between sector 1 and 2, then in the last 2 corners he gained the rest. That shows that he didnt really improved thanks to telemetry, he just had a clean lap, while the previous one has a mistake in the last sector. That said, telemetry helps, but not that quickly and not that much to make you improve by 9 tenths in 10 minutes.
I'm not really sure, Matthew is quite experienced in sim racing, he doesn't need to race during 40 mins to get his best lap. And if your best lap comes out after 1h30, it doesn't mean a lot, then, in real racing, you're supposed to get your best lap in maybe max 5 laps
If racing on PC, simulators like iRacing have supported telemetry software such as MoTec and McLaren's ATLAS telemetry but if you're on console games, its down to whether the game has built in telemetry tools like Gran Turismo 4.
What does too much steering amgle affect else then tire wear. I see most of the good F1 2017 players do it. I’m in a league where the top guys more steering but I don’t.
Cake Doge Not sure how it goes in real life but in the game atleast you should steer 90 degree on 90 degree corner, 180 degree on 180 degree corner and so on. If you steer too much the tyres will heat up resulting more worn tyres. The car will also understeer.
less grip, less turn in. basically he is entering corner too fast and since he wants to make the corner he turns but as he sees the car wont make it he compensates by turning more and more, usually leading to understeer and going wide on the corner. you can actually wiggle right and left as you are turning to try and find the optimal grip steering angle as an emergency, the thing is he basically came in too fast.
Eiersmijter great prediction only thing will sauber get rid of Ericsson, grojean may be be replaced by leclerc and I think sainz is at RBR and Alonso doesn’t retire I haven’t all up to date with everything so please correct me if make mistakes
Geekythedestroyer 467M I think Sauber will boot Ericsson since they’ve got Alfa Romeo money now. Grosjean was hard to call but I think he’ll be better for the second half of the season. Sainz has been outperformed by Hulkenberg while Gasly has been doing a great job, that’s why I think he’ll get the go ahead. Alonso has been giving “we’ll see” answers in interviews lately, and I just think he’s fed up with F1 and he wants out.

Darren Turner seems like a really nice guy :D
It's impressive how much you can gain of looking at pure data!!!
You guys should have an enormous amount of followers. Professional work right there!
Can we get more bits like this with Mr Turner? First time hearing of him, but he is perfect for this role. Friendly helpful vet with a ton of knowledge.
Wow Darren turner is a great driver and a great teacher!
You also can analyse your driving in a good sim like Assetto Corsa.
And it really helps!
Jonathan Straetman Does AC show you all the graphs like in the video?
Carl streZZah In Assetto Corsa itself, no. But you can use external software like ACTI or Motec and you can see almost everything.
Even with GTR2 you could use Motec.

Clicked on to the video as soon as the notification came in.......love u guys at WTF1.....excited to see the video!!!!

great video, this answered a lot of questions
Keep these vids coming!!!
Very informative great work more of this please
Wow! Very interesting! Are we able to view telemetry in the F1 2020 game?
Did you need to compensate less steering angle with more throttle?
hehehe .. you got the turn 3 wrong .. the instructor was talking about "old" turn 2, and you cut in footage of turn 4 .. 😋
you can see this where he is pointing on the telemetry graph .. 🤓

Can we get Matthew into F1? I think he deserves it
which are the Softwares usually used to log telemetry Data ?
I always wondered what was arivabenne looking on those screens so intense .
I am big fan of matt....because we both are like- minded... both are big fans of leclerc...
Any recommendations on telemetry software for F1 2019 PS4?
What a legend!

But not by the margin that he’s gained with the knowledge he was given

what's the name of this telemetry software?
Doing such things all-day (when not at work of course), but friends and family still say that I'm actually playing ...
Is that Rfactor pro?
Assetto Corsa has this its really usefull
thats radillon actually
wow...where did that come from?
cool, how do u gain access to this stuff?

Hi matt I am a nascar fan and occasionally watch f1
Never click so fast
2:10 whar are you doing with your hands matt😂
this break is killing me lol. completed the crew and crew 2, nearly completed races on f1 2017 and completed 2016. IM SOOO BORED
He became Mike Brewer the moment he left the door at the end, how strange.

Anyone else noticing how much he sounds like Anthony Davidson? (Darren, not Matt.)
matt is going to replace Ricciardo
CammyB hope so
He sounds like christian horner
Dang you can learn a lot from a 2 year olds drawing! xD That is really interesting though.
Lukesbricks16 You might probably know this, but that’s a computer generated image of what he did in the simulator.
Cool : ]
I
Who would dislike this video ? 😂
Cool dudes
TELEMETRY SINCE GRAN TURISMO 4. WE BEEN KNEW.
I feel like the title is a little off. Replace Can with Does. Haha
Would have been good to see the fastest lap in full.

Or maybe it’s just me
WOW!! now I know why F1 drivers are faster then me!!
Better then Maldonado (y)
I still have no idea about the telemetry
Are there any car sims out there that give you some telemetry?
Pretty much any sim gives you telemetry nowadays
I've seen footage of Assetto Corsa with telemetry. But I don't know if it was a mod or not.
Dude literally first I swear
Someones been hitting the gym
Telemetry needs to be in F1 Games.
F1 Challenge 99 02 has it
Okay now I understand why these sims cost millions.
#mattout
Did you hear stroll bought force India?
