Fascinating and impressive interview. I am particularly struck by, and chilled at, the parallels with the themes of Jane Meyer’s ‘Dark Money’. The scale of change that is essential to protect a real liberal Democracy requires more than ‘adjustment’. It requires overthrow of the status quo. I am forced towards pessimism by the weak and divided opposition in this country, particularly as it is faced with a grossly unfair electoral system. Thank you, you do great work.
I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Brexit seems to have sown the seeds of it's creator's own destruction. Especially that of their Status Quo. Even as we speak The ERG is in a power struggle over the dead body of Brexit's principal architect with The 1922 Committee who traditionally decide who governs this country. It's instructive that the Popularist instinct for eliminating opposition has shattered any pretence of unity, divorcing the Constituency Associations from The Parliamentary Party & dividing Conservatives within The Union. Brexit seems to be delivering the opportunity of radical structural change of The State.
Is the book mentioned here a different one from 'Democracy for Sale. Dark Money and Dirty Politics.' ?? Which is, btw quite fascinating and well written.
By far the most interesting discussion I have heard for a long time excellent, genuine, journalism. Thank you!
