Fun fact: studies have been done that indicate butterflies actually _remember_ being caterpillars. Long story short, scientists exposed caterpillars to a shock every time they smelled a certain chemical, and then after they emerged as butterflies they reacted negatively to the same scent, expecting to be shocked.
I’ve heard of this before too! It’s kind of like, if you emotionally attached to something as a child, you can see it as an adult and it will bring up many memories!
I guess not for BEING A CATERPILLAR but from the experience they've been exposed to. It is also connected to a study of a child experience that brings out "Phobia", some are horrible experiences from their childhood that lead them afraid of a minor thing even they are grown up.
I was left speechless, i had no idea caterpillars shed their skin when they go through metamorphosis. I thought they built the chrysalis around their body. That's so cool. I wish I was taught that in school.
Depends whether it is a moth or butterfly caterpillar. All butterfly (and some moth) caterpillars molt into a chrysalis form as in the vid while most moth caterpillars spin a cocoon with their silk.
Some species do that, but the others basically has their skin hardens, and some sorta chemical digests them in a way and that mush builds the butterfly. Summary, skin hardens, caterpillar turns to mush, and that mush builds a butterfly.
At my school, we were taught that caterpillars have 3 forms, Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree. The Caterpie turns into a Metapod by leveling up. The Metapod turns into Butterfree by waiting a few battles. The Butterfree is now a level 17 adult. If it is female, we put it in a daycare and use a Ditto to breed it. Other videos and shows always seemed to imply that they used their silk for the chysalis. I wonder why? Anyway, great video as always, I love your content! :]
They use the silk for the cocoons, which are the casing outside the chrysalis/pupa. If it's a silk worm, it spins a cocoon the pupa goes inside. Pretty much cocoons are different from chrysalids, and only some caterpillars (silk worms mainly) make them.

But that child support does
Wow, I never knew about the part where they shed their skin and turn into a giant green blob, before making a chrysalis. I just assumed the chrysalis formed around the caterpillar and then it just melted into goo inside. Disgusting, but awesome!
The zoom in and the story telling is really astounding!
I use to have monarch butterflies but they fly way to a new season of their life it was said to watch them leave and grow:(
I watched your video before my notification shows up.
Dang, man! 😁
Awesome!
legit
Thanks!
does it hurt like giving birth?
No. They grow the chrysalis under their skin, disconnecting the nerves from the skin and then reconnecting them to the chrysalis. It's a fascinating process.
Lauren, your narration is so enjoyable. And the video was good altogether ^^
Amazing! Thanks for the info.
Why is this making me hungry though?
Because they are very hungry....problem solved
why humans are not like that? new body when you reach 21
I just love the musical ideas in this particular video! I also love the video as a whole! :)
I wonder if the "🎼🎶🎵" is inspired of a wind ensemble piece entitled "Blue Shades" by Frank Ticheli...?
🤔 ....💭
A year later - thank you!
I'm the composer. I'm not familiar with that piece, but I'll be sure to check it out.
I’m reading “The very hungry caterpillar” to my four year old son. So you could imagine his surprised look when he got to see how caterpillars change with his own eyes.
Great video. Thank you.
Well how lucky am I when my skin and face didn't fall off during puberty XD
Mine did. Tiny pieces everyday, even my hair.
*its a phase mom*
It would be so cool if somehow scientists found a way to capture footage of what the caterpillar looks like when it's going through its amount of metamorphosis
I'm watching this vid for the hundredth time just because I like the soundtrack in the background😀👍
This is the first Deeplook video i ever watch.
