Wow, this is the same seating section I was in when I saw it happen. It's, erie, I was only 14 years old at the time but I watched it unfold from the exact same POV. Truly sad, something I will never forget.

It's the bracket that holds and protects, it also prevents the driveshaft (incase the driveshaft breaks) from flying into the crowd it also connects to the rear axle. It was the pit crews fault for not checking the truck over completely before it went back out.

Natural High suffered a transmission failure, after it was damaged jumping some cars during this freestyle run (which was the reason of the sparking under the truck). A driveshaft loop flew off when the transmission broke for good; it crashed into the grandstands, where it hit 6-year old Sebastian Hizey and a 40-year old man sat nearby. The man survived, but Hizey unfortunately died the next day. As a result, coloured driveshaft loops became mandatory. Natural High did not take part in the remainder of the meeting, and it was then permanently retired with immediate effect under that name. It later returned to racing as Fired Up, Western Renegade and finally, Sheer Insanity.
This happened at the friday show. My friend was there but was sitting on the opposite side of where the kid was killed. I went to the saturday show and natural high wasn't there.

If I'm correct , technitions didn't take as many precautions as they do nowadays back then. I've been to shows where if even the slightest problem occurs, the truck is shut off until either the drivers run is over, in they can start the truck without encountering a problem. Back then trucks could be going crazy all over the track and about to fly into the stands and the techs wouldn't consider shutting down the truck

They should've known a rotating wheel can sling a piece of metal. They should've put some sort of safety barrier up in case of that. Now they're afraid to use cars for this reason.
The piece that broke off wasn't from a car it was from the truck itself. Theirs a picture that appears to be a part of the rim from the truck. My guess is that the crew for the truck over looked it and ran the truck even though the truck had problems since the start of the show. Plus these aren't the actual monster jam trucks those are the ones that run at smaller arenas and smaller promotions.

dude the metal slipped off from the left side of the truck then it flew 45 ft in the air then hit the kid on the head and the metal was pretty big
