    As courageous a player as you will ever see.Took so much physical abuse but kept doing his job. I wish him all the best with his ALS diagnosis.

    The Leafs were blessed with this man. Watching him Saturday after Saturday growing up (got HNIC on Channel 9 out of Windsor, here in the Detroit area). I was never a Leafs fan, but I always loved watching him play.

    Börje and Reijo Ruotsalainen were my favorite European players in the 80s. Very smooth skating D that were pioneers in many regards. Tack så mycket, Börje!

    In 1973, the Leaf rookies were...
    Borje Salming
    Inge Hammarstrom
    Ian Turnbull
    Bob Neely
    Lanny McDonald
    Not bad. Lanny McDonald was CRUCIFIED in the Toronto media, especially by a writer in the Globe and Mail on a daily basis it seems, who made it personal. Well, 2 1/2 seasons later, midway through the 1975-76 season, Lanny showed why he was drafted 4th overall in 1973.
    Salming and Turnbull made immediate impacts. I thought Turnbull was better than Salming in their 1st year. Salming was fantastic.

      Harold Ballard, a great embarrassment for Toronto. At least he was always entertaining. When the NHL made it mandatory to have the player's name on the back, he made them sew on letters with the same color as the jersey, making the text virtually invisible. When the Beatles played in the ML Garden, Ballard cranked up the heat. He sold a lot of beverages to thirsty Beatles fans those nights. He also ruined the team, making great players, like Sittler, leave.
      He was a jerk.

    • @jamesanthony5681
      @jamesanthony5681 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was immediately apparent in the early 1970's when Ballard took full control of the team, the Leafs were never going to win the Cup so long as he was upright and had a pulse.

  • @OneEyedKeys
    @OneEyedKeys ปีที่แล้ว

    Too bad he played on crap teams. He was a legend anyway, but give him the ability to play with the Flyers, Bruins, Habs, Oilers, or Islanders back then and he would have shined on like a crazy diamond. Great player and an even better man.
