it is, and it is many time. games don't have to be complicated to bring the most of fun. this game brings tension and loads of fun, and beneath all it's simplicity lies a masterpiece. from the music, from the best graphics a beat em up could have back in 92, just everything is a reason that millions and millions of gamers would pay up for a part 4 that could even be in this style. This game was way ahead of it's time, just ways. The music stood with me from 92 to today, it was that good or something. Back in 92 you had this beast testorsteron system called the neo geo.....this game put that system and the super nintendo to shame in 92. Games have gotten to serious, to complicated and to monotenous, to a point where retro gamers and perhaps even you may harken to these uncomplicated times where a good dose of fantasy, '''bullshit' and creativity mix up for so much more. these days we see 100 games with the same polish and no effort in graphics while back in the days we got pure sprite art without the extra polish needed.
If you don't know it, you should definitely try Streets of Rage Remake! It's a fan game and it's absolutely INCREDIBLE. A must for any fan of these great games.

My friend rented this game back in the day and because the characters can hit each other we kept getting pissed off when we'd hit each other, and eventually we'd start hitting each other's characters on purpose, then we got really mad and had a fight and I didn't see him for a few days after that.
Hey Ryan, maybe you're unaware of this, but the boss in the arena is a tribute to Andre the Giant's wrestling days. Same with the Andorra enemy in Final Fight.
Maxwell Dahlz blaze and Cody. Great combo. I like balance so I started with Cody and switched to blaze. But she had a great look. My problem with skate or the wrestler. And especially the robot, is that I don't feel like they fit as well. The originals were ex cops. This ain't final fight. Makes no sense for a wrestler to be there. And the whole plot of 3 seemed out of place. The kangaroo made more sense. I got a soft spot for skate but wish we could have him in a game with his bro.
Streets of Rage Remake is that game...but if you mean official game then sure. The Hunter Brothers are a beast team to use in Remake as Adam provides the power but isn't slow like Max and Skate has the speed and mobility.

I can usually finish this game on one credit. (I use Axel.) If you hold UP + C when getting thrown by an enemy, you'll land on your feet. Also, an easy way to defeat most enemies (and even some of the bosses) is to never finish a combo. Just hit PUNCH, PUNCH, PUNCH over and over at a steady rhythm. (Not too fast... almost like counting.) The enemies will stay stunned and you can deplete their entire energy bar this way. My number one tip for ALL beat-em-ups is never approach an enemy head-on. Come at them diagonally and they'll be easy to grab or combo. What I also do a lot in Streets Of Rage 2 is grab an enemy and toss them into others. It's a quick way to clear out groups.
There's something about this game. It's really good. It was good back then. If you show it to kids now, they tend to enjoy it, people have memories of this. This and Turtles in Time are two all time greats in this genre. Love it and I'm glad you guys had fun with it!
I never played this game as a kid nor am I into beatem ups but was still blown away by this game when I played it as an adult. Sometimes I pop it in just to listen to the music.

One of the best games of all time and IMO easily the best of the SOR series just from the music alone. I don't even want to think about how many hours I spent playing this game during my childhood and even in college.
I loved Max from SoR2, I was sad at the time he wasn't in the 3rd. I do fav the 3rd more then 2nd. The 3rd had better movement set, more special attacks and reward for not dying! Ofc the music in 2nd is the best!
It always amazes me how many people find 2 to be the best part of the series. I think I'd still prefer 1 followed by 3, and it seems I am a rarity in that regard. Of course, the whole series is great.
Final Fight on the Mega CD was the home version to play. I had hours of fun with that and Beano is also the name of a comic that has been going weekly for 80 years.
Bare Knuckle 3 is slightly different than Streets Of Rage 3. The character models are different and much more racey and borderline offensive. There are different mid bosses in Bare Knuckle and overall seemed easier to me and more fun.
If I'm not mistaken I believe you can throw your partner and If they press the attack button at the right time they will do a kick attack rather than being thrown to the floor.
You guys should play Mother Russia Bleeds. I have a pretty good feeling you'll love it, since it's the closest thing to the SOR series that I've played.

I always avoided Skate. It's Max or Axel for me. Max's flying elbow smash can get you in grabbing range without taking a hit 100% of the time.
I liked skate because I had just started Rollerblading at the time. Still do 22 years later lol.

This was the game I got with my mega drive on Christmas Day 1993 :) I still play it to this day. One of the best abandoned franchises of all time.
