As an F1 gamer it’s so frustrating seeing the state of the F1 games rn. F1 24 has been an all time low. Ever since the EA takeover in 2021 every game since 2022 has been going backwards and 2022 was probably the breaking point after the shocking handling which a lot of the community abandoned the f1 game. It also was founded out Codemasters had massive plans for the F1 games before the EA takeover which got abandoned which highlights how much EA only bought it to destroy the franchise
Imo the actual racing in F1 24 is great, and the career mode updates are also good, but yhe expansion of the "battle pass" or whatever its called is pretty crap, and F1 World as a whole is pretty crap too
@@MinhLe-kt5zg Yeah that's a good point, even after going back to F1 2021 and doing a few races on that, it feels more "F1 gamey" than anything post-'22
EA buying Codemasters definitely didn’t make things any better but in general I think they were slowly going downhill even before the buyout. Outside of the F1 games their output was getting pretty stale especially games like Dirt 4 and Grid 2019. Even Dirt Rally 2.0, despite that game being insanely good at face value, made people pay just to add back certain cars and rally stages from the first Dirt Rally through DLC. I don’t even hate their games necessarily but they don’t feel anywhere near as ambitious and well crafted as they used to be back in the late 2000’s to early 2010’s.
The reason why 14 and 15 were undercooked games is mainly because of the shift to the new engine. I think 2014 was meant to be the first on the 8th gen consoles but they couldn't get it ready in time, so basically done a rush job on the previous engine to get a game out. I think thats another reason why they included the 2014 cars in the 2015 game, because they had already been working on that content originally. Ultimately it's all a problem with the yearly release schedule. Games nowadays often need a decent amount of time and clearly they needed 3 years to get an F1 game with the right features for that generation.
Correction for F1 2016, even if you win the championship you don't have the number 1 in your car. It is only from F1 2017 that we have the possibility to have the number 1 on the car, after winning the championship.
Dont care for F1 games, anymore, but still gonna watch it. I was actually into cars since I can remember but never much into motorsports, the thing that flipped my switch was playing F1 2018 and watching Drive to Survive😅 Now I watch literally everything that has an engine, wheels and goes racing. When I was around 2 to 5 years old I was very much into motorbikes actually, liked cars but loved bikes
FOM should liberalise the F1 game market, even if it means console exclusivity(although this is nowadays rare). Edit: After watching the entire video, I saw David Greco being mentioned, I used to have him as a friend on Facebook about 10 years ago while I still used it regularly
The last good one for me was F1 2020. I don't care about the games anymore and F1 by itself is losing me year by year. It's unfortunate how EA can fuck everything they touch
This was a good video explaining pretty much all of the Codies Formula 1 games from 2009 to the most current game at the moment. Thank you. 👍 These guys hit big with F1 2010 and it’s live the life feel of being a Formula 1 driver. 2011 was alright but nowhere near as good as 2010 in my opinion due to the weird handling model mostly. F1 2012 I have a soft spot for. Decent F1 game handling wise and content wise with solid online. 2013 was equally as good as 2012 and had classic cars. F1 2014 and 15 were not good games at all with in my opinion 2014 being the worst due to how copy paste it was and 2015 having less content than 14 but way better AI and graphics. 2016, 17 and 18 were all solid and playable games but flawed in a few areas. F1 2019 was really good but flawed too and 2020 was absolute peak Codemasters. 2021 onwards it just went downhill from there as EA arrived with only 2021 and ‘23 being solid for me. ‘22 was terrible and ‘24 is a copy paste of ‘23 with cut content. The next game F1 ‘25 is now or never for Codies. If it’s another disappointing edition, F1 might pull the plug on the franchise due to potentially low sales. The community don’t want that I’m sure, so hopefully I will be surprised by it come the spring/summer. I’m not counting my chickens though.
Sad point is this game campaign despite its spammed its currently vastly better.option then any competitor Forza Motosports barely tried with 2023 reboot And their GRID series isnt doing at all
It’s funny how EA could make amazing games, but they decide to half ass it all the time. I’ll acknowledge it’s probably tough given they have to make a new game every year, but man are sports games not fun anymore.
Personally onlything liked in 24 was 2019 game style driver career.and being able to adjust ERS more similar to 2019 Be honest Driver career being worse since 2020 theres no Alternative Driver like Buttler and Webber negotiation mechanic with team switched to driver perk. And practice session was worse too instead driving it on your own you just do gatcha with time
F1 Games have become the 'Madden' of racing games at this point, same old bones and issues just given a shiny new coat of paint and MTX to go along with it. Think I'll stick to Kunos's offerings (Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Evo) and modding scene there.
The biggest problem with F1 is the franchise itself, which means that developers can only use the car models of the current season. They don't give developers real copyright. To be precise, they only provide partial authorization. This is very authoritarian management behavior. What players really want is nothing more than a real career mode (preferably with a complete story), more realistic physics, different players can use different controllers to compete, and all previous seasons and all cars. They don't even need to roll back to 1950, just integrate all the cars from 2004-2024 seasons. Copy and paste behavior is not that difficult to operate. However, since Codemasters was acquired by EA, I expected this to happen. As for the real race, the real race is treated as a joke by the referees and the FIA, with arbitrary penalties, too many red flags, race manipulation, etc., which will make fans lose enthusiasm (of course, those radical and ignorant extreme fans attacking others will cause fewer people to pay attention to the event). The worst case scenario is that EA loses the F1 exclusivity and F1 stops in the next few years, even though they have done their best to increase the number of races to 24 to try to attract more manufacturers. But I still don't think this is a long-term solution. F1 may completely collapse in the 2026-2030 period.
I think it’s genuinely growing. It became a competitive season this year! Surely lando was given a couple benefits… but in Texas, there was action! Brazil was amazing! I don’t think it will die. They are getting better at being fair. We haven’t had a massi incident since 2019 that I know of. (That is that extreme)
5:17 oh yes the glorious F1 2009. When you mentioned it the theme song, that banger, instantly came to mind. I honestly loved the game, well I was little when it came out so can you really blame me. Played on the wii with that steering wheel accessory that came with the game, so much fun
I honestly excepted this to happen once I heard that Codemasters was bought by EA, like EA’s time making NASCAR games should’ve served as a warning for Codemasters and Formula One on what will (and eventually did) happen to them
That F1 Life would fit well in a Test Drive and even NFS like game, but is not exactly what anyone would want in a F1 game. I fully agree that there's no chances for another company to pick the license if EA lose it. Kunos is too busy with AC Evo, same for Reiza with Automobolista 2 and Studio-397 with rFactor 2/Le Mans Ultimate. F1 could make a lot of money for those studios, but there's risks if they decide to try. One game i play a lot is MotoGP 22 from Milestone. I think the reason that i'm inmersed in that game is because while the career mode is good and the races are enjoyable, the amount of classic content (extra bikes and tracks) is great. The 500cc bikes are wonderful. F1 games needs to fix the gameplay, physics and the technical aspects first, but extra content would help a lot. And not just classic cars: the F3 is quite necessary.
I remember in F1 23, I was leading a Monaco race in career when a red flag towards the end caused a glitch in which I got lapped for some reason.I haven't touched the game since. I'd rather play F1Challenge or GP4 instead of playing these recent games.
A very well detailed video. You described the games and the problems well. I used to buy f1 games every year. I have played every f1 game on pc, and for the 1st time I didn't buy f1 24. Only played it with the EA trial and the free weekend. And based on the experience its clear its not worth the money.
F1 2002 was my 1st game to play on the PS2, then F1 2009 on the Wii and then F1 2012 to 2023 on the Xbox. I didn't buy 2024 mainly because the price to buy the game is absurd but also the fact that there was nothing to entice me to the game, i'm not a career mode guy so that didn't interest me. F1 2020/21 was were I was fully invested into League Racing mainly due to COVID but because the games were still fun for me to play. I think it was mainly down to age and work IRL and to the point where I just didn't enjoy video games as much as my teenage years and not to say I stopped played video games all together but my motivation was not there anymore. As of right now due to my line of work I don't have time and the motivation to play F1 games or video games in general and while thats sad at the same time thats the way life goes. I just hope that the F1 game improves for the next generation of fans, F1 is certainly more popular than it was 10 years ago and if F1 wants to keep young fans invested in the sport. Make the video game franchise somewhat good at least. A great video to start the year Joe! Hope this year will be a great year for the channel.
Nice Video.....The trouble is EA make a lot of sport titles under it's umbrella and F1 is just a tiny part of that and all there sport games are down on sales but if you combine them all they are still making money for EA so unless sales dip to zero I still think EA will be making F1 2032 and more in the future. Now if this was just Codemasters on there own with the poor sales figures it would be a different story but with EA I think they will be okay.
F1 is the same game since 2015 or 2016, in which we notice minimal improvements in terms of graphics, yearly updates about tracks, car liveries and drivers. The last time I noticed a huge improvement was f1 2020 when we had your own team career mode and braking point from f1 2021 but excluding this the game is just a dlc for the previous game( f1 24 is the best example because they haven t touched anything in that project, haven t fixed issues, they just added the new liveries …. I mean they are more than jerks to do such a little work and ask so much). I still remember how disappointed I was their lack of care about details… Mercedes team have switched their steering wheel shape in 2021 but their payed attention one year later when they released f1 22 …. I mean those guys are paid to breath and sleep in those studios
I dearly hope Codemasters gets dropped. It's better to not have a game for some years than having a terrible company doing terrible games every year. EA killed sports games
Ea has killed all sports games, I watched madden football and hockey both die bc of ea, madden yrs ago was fun bc the original founders of EA were making games but then sold out to corporate heads and the game got worse and just copy and paste ever since, I just started f1 not long ago and I fear ea will kill this game like the rest, I don't have any faith in that company bc they destroyed all the others
Imagine Konami will publish eRacing game which likely developed by Frontier Developments and Konami as co-publisher for Frontier Developments and also Formula E license game aswell
I bought either 24 or 23. Start a career with astra. On the frist race i bearly bumped a McLaren and my car front wing exploded. And then i immediately uninstalled. I know f1 car are fragile but not that damn weak
I felt like Formula 1 is coming to Forza Motorsport 2023 and Gran Turismo 7, especially when it comes to declining sales of the EA Sports/Codemasters Formula 1 Series💀
I kinda hope F1 goes in the opposite direction, instead of selling a "new game" every year, sell season packs... 2025 pack and even old seasons pack, it would be fantastic. And even crazier perhaps open the doors to things like Iracing and the new Assetto Corsa to implement season packs.
I still play F12020 as its a great game. The motogp games are also quite rubbish now. I think yearly sports games in general aren't worth it year-on-year. Buying them every few years makes more sence
It's so simple. We want a competitive race. How can we be competitive when their Ranked races are 5 laps long and all the rules are turned off? It's so stupid. It's 5 laps of idiot cutting corners and driving into people with absolutely no repercussions. Turn the rules back on, make the races 25% races, and just use the handling model of F1 23, and F1 25 will already be 20x better than F1 24. Then implement team orders in My Team, just change the R&D portion slightly so it's not the same thing from the last 3 games, and people will be happy. To make it an amazing game, add classic cars back in and give us like 5 classic tracks that they already have the code for and most of us would be content. It really isn't that difficult, but they keep focusing on that stupid F1 World and F1 world tech car bullcrap that no one even cares about because they are trying to monetize this game as much as possible without realizing they are bleeding money because the last 3 games have been absolute crap.
My playtime of the latest F1 games, I think, perfectly shows the trend of each game becomes worse and worse: F1 2018: 384 hours F1 2019: 603 hours F1 2020: 845 hours F1 2021: 530 hours F1 22: 216 hours F1 23: Didnt buy it F1 24: Didnt buy it
I think the huge drop on sales is also linked to Verstappen domination, as his 22-23 run did make a huge impact on the championship. I myself, a Red Bull fan, had essentially 0 interest in F1 and its feeder series in 2023 and at the start of 24
Yes I agree. I literally only watched 1 race in 2023 after it became clear Verstappen would win every single one. The only bits of the races I saw were from rocketpoweredmohawk videos. Once Lando started challenging Max I was genuinely excited to watch F1 again, and if it is as competitive this year, I will definitely be watching the whole season.
To add and a more side note, after EA bought Codemasters the games never had bigger sales like before and licenses run out much quicker This is probably also hurting sales
and also I heard Sony will bring back old IP Imagine F1 game bring back as PlayStation and PC exclusive but developed by Polyphony or Frontier Developments
I purchased F1 24 shortly after it released. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to play it this year. I finally got around to it today; not one roster update or even any livery updates, just a bunch of bullshit F1 Life stuff. Disheartening. The heart is gone and the road is being paved for EA micro transactions.
I think what hurts the F1 gaming franchise the most is the forced yearly release. For it do be a really good game, it needs to have a solid base game to stand on, kind of like how Iracing and Asseto Corsa do it.
I think they should lose the licence. Maybe we will end up with a couple of seasons not having a game to play, but F1 itself is big enough to live trough that, and if that means the franchise will escape the EA hellhole of yearly meaningless releases - so be it. I can't stand to look at these games anymore...
I disagree with only one thing, comparing F1 with no game to Indycar, the sales for an indycar game would not beat F1, F1 is too big for that, a developer would take it on, whether it's a good one remains to be seen but F1 wouldn't be left in purgatory like Indycar was after 2005
EA's slogan is after all: "Give me your fu**ing money."
The only way these games can be saved is if EA loses the license

Does anyone have an opinion on which game had the best physics?
F1 25 should be good because it’s the end of old gen console support and unreal engine 5 is helping out
Conform for me how you know 22 and 23 had different development teams?
You would get an interview if you finished on the podium in f1 2010, regardless of winning ot not
My playtime of the latest F1 games, I think, perfectly shows the trend of each game becomes worse and worse:
F1 2018: 384 hours
F1 2019: 603 hours
F1 2020: 845 hours
F1 2021: 530 hours
F1 22: 216 hours
F1 23: Didnt buy it
F1 24: Didnt buy it
F1 22 no doubt is the one that killed the F1 game franchise ever since EA took over Codemasters, despite IGN gave it 8.2/10.
F1 World is so damn pointless. I think I played it once, and that was it. I want the classic cars back so much too.
can you make a video about sbk22 video game i played it recently
To add and a more side note, after EA bought Codemasters the games never had bigger sales like before and licenses run out much quicker
This is probably also hurting sales
and also I heard Sony will bring back old IP Imagine F1 game bring back as PlayStation and PC exclusive but developed by Polyphony or Frontier Developments
I can't stand to look at these games anymore...
not to mention F1 Mobile Racing got so bad after EA bought codemasters. in 2020 the game was so fun but after that it just got worse
Yeah. I was racing on F1 Mobile in 22 and then the game disconnected even though my connection was okay. I miss F1 Mobile from 2018-2020.
So we gotta buy a new game every year that is the same that cant even realse at the start of the season and which also sucks
Are any of those who saw nothing wrong with EA buying out Codemasters still here? Perhaps it's time for some sort of public apology now? 🤔
PLEASE PLAY F1 21
I disagree with only one thing, comparing F1 with no game to Indycar, the sales for an indycar game would not beat F1, F1 is too big for that, a developer would take it on, whether it's a good one remains to be seen but F1 wouldn't be left in purgatory like Indycar was after 2005
