    I bought my Trailblazer SS about two years ago and absolutely love it. The weak transmission is a major issue along with a poorly designed oil pickup tube location. But once you fix those problem areas, you got the makings of a badass street truck.

      Alex A i have a 2006 trailblazer
      SS just got back in July it had 54k miles awd every gadget, bell and whistle in it can u tell me some stuff about this beast I may not know about?

    • @AlexA-ef9tb
      @AlexA-ef9tb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      nicholas young I can certainly try. I have a RWD, but look at a AWD one for a brief moment. I can tell you the AWD version has the added issue of the front differential becoming a issue. At 54,xxx miles I would worry to much about until you get toward the 100k club. Also, having AWD can increase the chance of the 4l70(AWD launches can be addicting)taking a dump faster than on the RWD. So a good size transmission cooler and a slightly built transmission are a good investment.
      These vehicles were built during a time with GM’s build quality varied from good to good enough. I know some owners who were making 500+ rwhp on a stock transmission and others would just sneeze in a stock TBSS and lose all their gears. I’ve got 146,xxx miles on the original trans with a CAI, headers, and street tune done. No issues at all.
      As long as you are aware of the problem areas and avoid them. You might be able to avoid some expensive trips to the mechanic.

    I love my 2008 TBSS AWD 3SS! Bought it new in '08 and as of September 1st, 2021... I'm almost at 38K mi on the ODO. It's had its first brake job less than a year ago. I don't drive much but, when I do, I enjoy every second of it. With the AWD, it's easy to beat everyone out of the hole. Light turns green, foot to the floor, no spin, just hook and launch. It's still bone stock at the moment but, I think of throwing a Maggie on it all the time for an easy extra 150hp. Best bang for the buck. If you're gonna get a TBSS, make sure it's AWD!

      Donald J. Trump both trucks have their strengths and weaknesses. SRT8 is faster out the box than a TBSS, not to mention a decent 5-auto transmission. TBSS has access to massive aftermarket support options and the unbreakable 12 bolt rear end with 4.10 gears. One guy was making 1300rwhp through the stock rear end in his Turbo TBSS.

    Anyone in the market for a TBSS should look for a Saab 9-7x Aero for a lot less money. You get a better looking sleeper with HIDs and a better interior as well. Plus they only made 621 total in 2008 and 2009. I love mine and love the reactions I get because people have no idea what it is.

    Bought my Imperial Blue Metallic AWD brand new in 07 and immediately took it to track day in Sonoma - bone stock (but with borrowed track slicks all around) and it easily was doing 13.7's and 8's in the quarter. Added a supercharger, intake, PCM tune and replaced the exhaust with a freer-flowing SLP exhaust a few years later, and was pulling 12.8's all day. I absolutely love my TBSS, as a cruiser it drives smooth, but when the lead foot is put into it, it will not hold back. Looking to pick up an 08 or 09 very soon, this time in Red ;-)

    • @JCDagz

    I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer EXT LS with a 5.3 L naturally aspirated engine 7-passenger. Using the same engine and drivetrain as the Chevy Silverado built on a Chevy Colorado frame unlike the frame that's using the SS which is much weaker I have a solid truck frame.
    Buy 2010 when Chevrolet discontinued 7-passenger Trail Blazers in favor about the Chevy Traverse which later on have to be redesigned because the first generation of Chevy Traverse what's a soccer mom mobile. To add further insult after discontinuing the SS Trailblazer they took the Trailblazer badging and sent it overseas to Malaysia and elsewhere where that Trailblazer is a piece of garbage granted they did make one in a diesel but quite frankly I don't like it that's why I hang onto my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer EXT LS because it's much better built and the best part about it is it's very low cost to maintain aside from the issue with the 4 L 60 e transmission which had nothing but plastic junk in there which I modify by putting a bull Ripper transmission and it intercooler this vehicle is a beast and still running. I like today's SUVs that are nothing but a bunch of plastic and garbage that fall apart after 3 years look at Scotty Kilmer has video on the 6 worst SUVs not to buy or rather stupid people keep telling you to buy.
    With a few modifications of the current SS Trailblazer platform you can get the full potential of the Chevy engine a few modifications needed is the transmission and the oil pickup setup. Another thing I would add is a transmission cooler. If you look on TH-cam Bad Dream Makers on Scotty TV you'll see a SS Trailblazer that was totally re-engineer from the ground up what a supercharger installed a beautiful work of art olfactory look totally piped-in and Dyno tested it's a beast a beautiful winter Beast. However don't sleep on the Chevy Trailblazer in the right hands is re-engineered and it could be a beautiful off-roader

      Randall Lane , i wouldn't say worthless. I bought a 1990 454ss with just under 14k on it in 2000 for $9500. Had the stock Turbo 400 tranny beefed up with a B&M shift kit. Had the heads milled & flowed. Had and used a 3 duce intake & carbs off a 1968 Chevy 427 (worked perfectly on this block and a old LS7 crate ), Roller Cam, Hedman Headers , Magnaflow Exhaust and for about $4k parts $1k labor it dyno at 503hp at the rear will. A few grand more with some Brodix heads it would be 700 easy. I put Big Whillwoods all the way around 22's another $3k.
      I loved it drove it 2 years sold it with just over 18k miles on it for $18k. Broke even and had alot of fun in it. And another person got a really nice fun truck with 500 dependable HP for under $20k and he actually still has it with about 30k miles on it. He put it on a dyno 2 years ago and it it hit 508 he had put fuel injection and new exhaust system on it. And even sold me my intake & carbs back.

    But the terminators used a 4.6. And actually had more than 390 because they could put down 360 rwhp stock

    • @willybshreddn3794
      @willybshreddn3794 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      But needed a supercharger to get those numbers. No naturally aspirated 4.6 reaches these numbers. I mean hell, the early models of the 4.6 didn't even achieve 300HP.

  • @saulgoodman4855
    @saulgoodman4855 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would really like to have a rwd low mileage blue one. If i was well off that is. Because i wouldn't want it as a dailey driver (unless i was rich) cause I'd feel bad about putting alot of miles on it and just being exposed to the public to much: door dings, others in my ride, etc.
    And also if i could only have one or two $20-$25k toys i would go this route. But if money was basically no problem I'd love one of these. Especially if you could drop $15-$20k into it get it up to 580-630hp at the wheel, Temec 6sp, BIG brakes, little handling/suspension up grades. And still look bone stock. That would be a fun little ride.

    • @michaelwaller8252
      @michaelwaller8252 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @vintagelightman03 It just needed a few sacks of cement mix laid up against the tailgate to hold it's light weight ass to the ground!

    • @michaelwaller8252
      @michaelwaller8252 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @vintagelightman03 It does add a couple of hundred pounds, but when you launch from a dead stop, that weight is multiplied upon the rear wheels by taking it OFF of the front and reducing wheel spin which tremendously helps how fast you get to the end of the quarter mile! I've been doing that little trick for 33 years now, and it can shave (depending upon the vehicle/drivetrain/axle ratio/ and tire combo up to a second off of the quarter mile, because you can get more throttle to stick to the ground!
