I’m from Hong Kong and was born in 1989. Thank you for recording the beautiful HK with this amazing video and sharing it on here. This is the only HK I remember.
As a true HongKonger born in the late 60s, who had left Hong Kong for more than a decade...I couldn't thank enough for your precious video, which recorded the most memorable golden year of my life ~ 1990!
Hongkong 90s looked so hectic but magical, there was everything from metropolis buildings to cramped up apartments and open market. Felt like a movie fantasy, a world apart from where you from. I feel sad for Hongkong people because of what they have to go through right now.
Yeah i remember it exactly what is shown in the video. Late 80s HK was a great time as well. I guess UK leaving was a bad idea. Mainlanders made HK not as good as it was before. Not sure but this is coming from a foreigner's perspective. Not sure how local Hong Kong residents felt about it
I am a Hong Konger, many people in Hong Kong live in fear, without freedom of speech, without the fair laws, human rights, if you say something the government doesn’t like, you will be imprisoned, the economy will be ruined, a place with no future in sight, Hong Kong Most of it was not destroyed in the hands of the Communist Party, but in the hands of a group of people who betrayed Hong Kong, those who benefited from politics
@@janelyncheung Yeah that is what my sentiments exactly. Though I want to know the reason why the locals wanted the UK to leave and let china take over.
This is 1990 not the 90s 1990 was still very 80s at this point. 1996 or 1997 was the authentic 90s even 2000 represents more the 90s than 1990.Dont confuse 1990 with the 90s. Its like saying that the year 2000 is the same as say 2008 very different.
Watching this clip got me all choked up with tears. Thank you for sharing. Thank you England and the real HongKongers for making HK what it once was. So long Hong Kong, RIP, you will always have a spot in my heart.
The good old days of Hong Kong. A vibrant city full of hard working and creative people. Endless impressions to be amazed. Traditional food markets with cheaky but kind merchants haggling for every dollar. Huge skyscrapers only one block further. Heat outside, AC inside. Hot, cold, hot, cold. And then there was something else in the old days of British rule. Something no camera can easily film: Freedom of speech, freedom religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press, a truly independent judiciary and the rule of law. God save the Queen.
Not really a fallacy on balance. True, the early movers after the war had built wealth and were taking over the economy, but in 1990 there was still freedom of all sorts to do quite a bit. It even became more open after that...for a while.
Indeed. I see many people (supporters of the CCP) who argue that British Hong Kong wasn't a true democracy. Yes, that might be true, but it was a thousand times better than modern day Hong Kong. And remember that even if the British were to enforce their laws on Hong Kong, none of their laws called for the eventual establishment of a totalitarian regime.
@@tsumugikotobuki0131 Right! British Hong Kong was NOT democratic but it had civil liberties and the rule of law with a truly independent judiciary. It was a semi-democratic system. And above all: The governor of Hong Kong was dependent on and accountable to a truly democratic government (in London). It was NOT AT ALL compareable to today's Hong Kong.
Finally get to see the good old Hong Kong I missed were I was born and raised and remembered. So as many fellow Hong Kongers, this is what we called Hong Kong and it will always have a place in my heart. Thank you for sharing ..

Danke für dieses mittlerweile geschichtliche Video! Ich war in den 1990igern sehr oft in Hong Kong und vermisse diese Zeit. Da war in Hong Kong die Welt noch in Ordnung.
