My husband and I spent 3-1/2 months in Lecce last spring, 2020 (yes, a month longer than planned...) and we had THE most marvelous time. We had 3 weeks pre-covid and decided to enjoy the outside before venturing into all the magnificent building - keeping them for the rainy day that never came. Covid did, so the magnificent interiors are waiting for our next visit. And there will be one! We have fallen in love with Lecce and are making preparations to spend our future winters there, approx. November - the end of April. And it is not just about Lecce Centro Storico. The people are fantastic! Happy, welcoming, loving children.Tthe young people sparkle. The food is fantastic and we were treated to many after-dinner drinks from the private stashes of restaurant owners. We particularly enjoyed the Roman structures and history and the archaeological and modern art museums are worth many future visits. Theater performancers of great variety and the ballet we saw, just before quarantine, was simply excellent. We are waiting anxiously to return to the friends we made there, learn the fabulously joyful pizzica dance and music, and to embrace the life we have been searching for for our retirement.
I'm from Lecce and, seriously, thank you. Lecce isn't known or visited like other places as Milan, Rome or Naples, but it's beautiful and unknown. (For the future: the pronounce is not "pasticciolo" but "pasticciotto" 😂) Anyway, thanks again for your talking about Lecce, an Italian unknown pearl.

I have visited Lecce, this beautiful baroque city from the south of Italy, it is really a hidden pearl in Italy, the food is just delicious, I was in a very nice pension very close to the old town, but outsides of the walls, the name is L'Orangerie de l'epoque, so wonderful old mansion with a beautiful gardens and oranges trees! Breakfast time, they give you bread just from the oven and put out side the door in a basquet, very traditional, so is another option, when in Lecce , the one you have stayed is also wonderful! Also I took a cuisine lessons with Cinzia and Marika, " Stille Mediterranen" a great experience I recommend to you. Congratulations, very nice video!
Mark, you knocked this one right out of the ballpark! Lecce seems like a town Italians visit/vacation. So many new foods I have never seen elsewhere, like at the coffee cafe and bakery. The proprietors at both shops were standouts. The B&B and its hostess were places I would like to stay at. The olive tree at the olive grove restaurant blew me away. A most enjoyable episode. Look forward to next Sunday and the Berlin series starting next Saturday. Keep eating and drinking your way through the world Mark! Ciao

Yes, we're going both in June and September next year❤

I live in Lecce, I'm glad you enjoyed my city and found out food delicious. I hope you had a good time here!! Have you visited the "Santa croce" church? It is located almost in the center of Lecce, and is the most beautiful church ever, full of architecture!!! Thanks for everything you said about my city!
Hello ! Another beautiful town!! The coffees look so good! The pastry 🥮 shop omg delicious. Everything is so amazing. Thank you for sharing, you guys are doing a fantastic job with your videos. Can’t wait for the next video. Take care 🤗🤗
Funny..where you parked in Lecce is where i always park..even overnight is free after 4 i think or 6 but can stay in the Center and park there after your daily excursions.. i've always found one...especially in the Fall season. Canteli is a beautiful place and i LOVE their wine, but Leonis de Castris is so historical and is in the villa and is special to tour and taste and buy hehe..Just a few more miles North. Glad you are enjoying the Salento..is a beautiful area...Pasticiotto is second only to Cassata siciliana for Italian sweets in my book...Horse is excellent...there is a few restaurants in Lecce centro that serve cavallo.
Thank you so much for sharing this is definitely my next destination. We are planning to go to Italy for one month to tour just about every city and this town was not on my list but just added
wow great job Mark! you've recalled me my salentian holidays four years ago.... Lecce is just astounding, the baroque, the food, the pasticciotti(not pasticciolli like you said :D)... and the heat... in July and August the heat is so strong that you kinda feel like in an onyrical experience... as consuming LSD maybe :D and the oil of Puglia is THE ABSOLUTE TOP..... you said it right: the tip of Salento cuisine is simplicity and freshness, not like others more blasonée(and more expensive...) such as French cuisine....
Wherever I travel, one of the first things I do is seek out the local coffee cafes. Nothing better than a great cup of java to start/or end a day of sightseeing!

When I lived in Spain, if I ate a hamburger I would only get it from a U.S.- based chain, because I saw the butcher shops that proudly advertised horse meat, and I was afraid a local restaurant would try to slip some into my burger. It was only when I was about to leave that someone explained to me that horse meat is a delicacy that costs two or three times as much, so there's no way I'd get it without paying extra. Last January in Parma I passed on some horse tartare at one of the best restaurants in town. I triple-dog dare you! 😄
In that time period a friend invited me to stop by and stay overnight with his family when I was passing through Switzerland, in the hills above Lake Lucerne. I rang the doorbell, and while waiting I noticed an empty cardboard box on the porch from a horse-meat supplier. My thoughts about that were interrupted when he opened the door and greeted me. He was originally from Chile, but was very talented at cooking Chinese food, of which he served about a half-dozen dishes, among them what I thought was broccoli beef. The beef did taste a little different, but it was only when he offered me seconds that I suddenly remembered the box out on the porch. "Ummm, that was delicious, but actually I'm feeling rather full..." 🤣🤣🤣
