Hi, my friend. I interpret it more as “Theologians ruin the message of Christ” or something along those lines. He speaks of a sorta illiterate understanding of Jesus that is in contrast to the overthinking Theological approach. When I hear some self-professed “Christians” speak about their interpretation of Jesus’ teachings I can’t help but think “how the fuck did you construct your judgmental and hateful belief system from Jesus’ message of love and compassion?”

Just for the record, though he's not annunciating very well, Tweedy is singing the words "CHEERY ghost." It is worth noting, however, that the band made a fantastic Pac Man T-shirt with a cherry-colored ghost (which I proudly own) because they have a good sense of humor about how many people have mixed up the words.

Most definitely Cherry Ghost. As per the liner notes. I always took it to mean cherry as in a virgin - as every ghost is, unless you have been reincarnated. But that was just my interpretation.
