nels is playin a jaguar! seen em twice and NEVER seen a guitar player like nels before! LOVE him. COME BACK TO THE AVALON IN GRAND JCT!!!! it was as goood for us as it was for you guys and we KNOW we got you off that night. ; ) PUHHHH-leeeeease!
Religion is for people who want to go heaven,I've fought demons most of Life and was saved by a Higher Power 41/2 yrs. Ago.......l identify with the song... I consider myself Spiritual because I've been to hell and back.no man in cloth tells me how to run my life.l turn over my life and will to the "Holiest of Trinities" every morning, or I'm dead.
I see that some folks are rocking out, while showing their love for the lyrics, "cherry ghost." Just for the record, though he's not annunciating very well, Tweedy is singing the words "CHEERY ghost." It is worth noting, however, that the band made a fantastic Pac Man T-shirt with a cherry-colored ghost (which I proudly own) because they have a good sense of humor about how many people have mixed up the words.
***** Thanks for being among those, who contacted me about this. I wanted to confirm these lyrics so much that I contacted the band. And they are, indeed, "cherry ghost."
Most definitely Cherry Ghost. As per the liner notes. I always took it to mean cherry as in a virgin - as every ghost is, unless you have been reincarnated. But that was just my interpretation.
This. You do not need a religious belief to act morally. Loose Fur has a good song called 'The Ruling Class'. Highly recommended song. The music kicks ass!
Hi, my friend. I interpret it more as “Theologians ruin the message of Christ” or something along those lines. He speaks of a sorta illiterate understanding of Jesus that is in contrast to the overthinking Theological approach. When I hear some self-professed “Christians” speak about their interpretation of Jesus’ teachings I can’t help but think “how the fuck did you construct your judgmental and hateful belief system from Jesus’ message of love and compassion?”
@Family4china no. actually theologians *think* about God. nobody needs to be a theologian to know about their own soul. one could argue that it's epistemologically impossible to 'know' anyone's soul but one's own... besides which - this is one FUCKN GR8 song!!
When man gets in the way..everything goes haywire...thats why for me my day to day sobriety l choose a 1 on 1 relationship n friendship with Highest of all Powers... God!!!!! NO BROKERS..... Amen
@liljgoneman neils is not playing a jaguar. nels is playing a jazzmaster. he pretty much always plays a jazzmaster. a jaguar has similar electronics but single coil pickups like a strat. jazzmasters have the soapbar p90s. note how the pickups look like big ol' bars o soap. ergo, jazzmaster.
02:47 ; Cherry Ghost - anyone heard em? search up "we sleep on stones" by Cherry Ghost. Made it reasonably big in the UK about 2 years ago, briefly. They named themselves after that lyric. Sound fuck all like them, but a most excellenbt band none-the-less.
Jesus loves everyone...He is real and one day "every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord"...best to do it now, so your place in heaven will be eternally secure...if you wait till you meet your maker, it will be too late...His words will be "depart from me, you workers of iniquity, i never knew you." Please understand that I have tried other religions and they have all failed me because they are all man's methodology to get to heaven...Christianity is not a religion, but...
Abevs, even the esteemed Jefferson was a mere man and has found his place in eternity if He did not ask Jesus in his heart to become his Lord and Saviour. I don't understand why you quote one man as if to say that his thoughts are to be put on a higher plane(?). He was mere flesh and blood. concerning his actual comment I would say: One cannot compartmentalize their beliefs from their vocation or other aspects of their life, for they are all so interwoven". Peace. Jesus loves you.
Not really, not for those who don't choose that sort of religious path, or have the same religious views as you. So not everyone needs Jesus to forgive their sins. I do good things not in fear of being punished by my own god, but for the reason because it is the right thing to do, its an issue of respect for me. I just enjoy the music man.
ah, Theologians DO know something about every mans soul...that being, that everyone needs Jesus to forgive their sins...nuff said. later. peace and all those other hippie words, man.
How did so many great musicians come together to form this band... amazing..
Alt-Country's Led Zeppelin.
God this band is so great. Tweedy just a great song writer. Damn
This is the best Wilco song
my favorite
It is and besides maybe Impossible Germany!
What a performance!
jeff tweedy is my fucking HERO! jeff, you're the neil young of our generation! I hope you take this in the complimentary spirit it was intended. :)
This is great. I've never heard this song live. Thanks for posting.
nels....... just... wow! live. wow....
True comment on life! I am not a musician but they guitar and piano work really together in this song.
I worship this song 😉
I like to explain my atheism by saying, Theologians don't know nothing about my soul.
one of their best
at LEAST 6'3" I got to see em at a tiny little theater in grand jct co. a few years back. 6th row center and they were ALL bigger than life. : )
I'm an ocean all in motion
Slow motion.
I'm a cherry ghost.

I love him too - he is AWESOME! The whole band is great :)
it all sounds best to me!
I know this is random, but I love the color of Jeff's guitar.

+AxelrodDaniel well, the lyrics are in the album sheet :)

Like if Bowie had a backing band composed entirely of Wilco and if his name was actually Jeff Tweedy and if Bowie wasn't involved at all?
“A professorship of Theology should have no place in our institution" Thomas Jefferson

It just “ rock n’ roll”, but we like it. Ok?
@MrNelsonWilbury Thank god for jazz influened drummers being in an art-house pop band.
i am in love with this song
@JEdgarGroover Its not P90s, Its the Jazzmaster pickup. Similar, but less midrange. Very tasty
Cute :) I use that line as a signature on some boards - I am actually a Cherry Ghost :)
When man gets in the way..everything goes haywire...thats why for me my day to day sobriety l choose a 1 on 1 relationship n friendship with Highest of all Powers... God!!!!! NO BROKERS..... Amen

Agree! Anyone know what height he is? He is impressive in every way :)
最高!
@rowley103 fender. looks like the thurston moore sig jazzmaster.
This isn't on the version of this documentary I have. Why not?
I just realized that piano intro is the same as 'Cheers'. oh well
Inexplicável.
@keeton You and me both.
2:31 Nels rubber bottle stop.
a relationship with the Living God. He took our place. I just tell you this out of concern. Please dont wait to invite Him in your heart today. Peace.
@MrNelsonWilbury I hate when incredible parts of a song are so short :(
now THAT was funny. :)
And Jeff has the cutest mouth :)
Being a dude, that's WAY down my list of stuff to admire about jeffro.... : ) although he does look a little like my cousin jeff...
Oh shit Jeff is your cousin lol
Jesus loves everyone...He is real and one day "every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord"...best to do it now, so your place in heaven will be eternally secure...if you wait till you meet your maker, it will be too late...His words will be "depart from me, you workers of iniquity, i never knew you." @bananastan714 Tell them to read some Joseph Campbell.
Suena a Daltrey...
Oh well then, I guess you weren't that impressed by the "bare tummy" scene near the beginning of "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart"....... :)

@cassidybates
Nah! thats the genuis part about it, they surprise...
If the heavy part would continue it would lose it's force
This song sounds very Bowie to me.

Iffy performance, but this is a great song.
XD
This is a great song for the most part...but...I don't know...religion doesn't seem like a deep enough topic for Jeff to sing about.
2 people don't know nothin!
Weird stuff
ah, Theologians DO know something about every mans soul...that being, that everyone needs Jesus to forgive their sins...nuff said. later. peace and all those other hippie words, man.
i am in love with this song
