I was an anti fur for a long time, never got too far or vocal about it but always thought the worst about the community. then one day I discovered a friend I had recently met was a furry, and it made me think about why Ive been hating it so much. After doing a little research, I came to realize how wrong I was about some things, and now have come to be a furry myself (Irony I know). Respect to you, not repeating my mistake and giving them a chance. one person at a time...

I have a question, but you don't have to answer it, though.
How did you become an Anti Furry in the first place?
I always don't understand why People like Hateing so Much in Life instead of Loving or Focus on the Positive.
And doing Research First before deciding what you want to believe is the Turth or the Lies?

    • @fluberdebluber7566

I was young, and it was a “trend” to hate furrys. They where kind of the butt of the joke for memes/vines at the time and I just kinda got swept in with the crowd for awhile. After it died down I still had a similar opinion on it even though I never expressed it bc all I saw was the negative stuff. Then after awhile I ended up meeting a friend that was a furry and that finally prompted me to look into the topic and figure out what a furry really was, that’s when I realized it wasn’t some s3x thing or an identity thing (even if that is the case in occasional circumstance) and just a hobby.
Most anti furs are just misinformed, like I was for awhile. Sorry, this got long 😅

@@condensednuts that would be very interresting to see.
Tho. when fursuiting you need to be very carefull. Here are a few points you need to be caucious of:
1: Fursuits, most of the times, are HEAVY! most of them end up adding 50-100 pounds to your overall weight. so you need a lot of endurance to make it through the day.
2: Wearing a fursuit is like laying under 10 cotton blankets. it gets hot under there. Bring a lot of water with you. and possibly one of theese little hand fan things.
3: Fursuits have a limited FOV (kinda like wearing the vision pro but even worse) so better have someone else nearby to help you get where you want to go.
4: it can be hard getting in and out of a fursuit. so have someone help you^^
5: the suit may also limit your movement so again, make sure you have someone with you to help you out.
But, it is fair to say that all of this trouble is definitely worth it and makes an experience like this a lot more fun so I would definitely recommend trying it out!

I've been with the fandom since almost the beginning. I think it was 1988 or 1989 that I first discovered it. It helped me in a way no one else could. I was sheltered, unused to being around people unlike myself, and very deeply closeted. Furry was the community that helped me break out of my shyness and isolation. I'm in my 50's, now, and can honestly say I doubt I would have made it this far without my fellow furs.
You did some good with your video, today; thank you!

As someone who currently struggles with shyness, I'm glad you were able to break those chains. These are the kind of comments that always makes me scoff at those people who thinks being a furry has helped no one to better/find themselves in life. Even if just to improve ones social life, that's still a huge blow up and is certainly worth noting imo. Mad respect.

Among all the 'weird' fandoms, furry are certainly among the most likeable. Whenever I interact with furries, its a very positive and welcoming vibe, there is so much creativity in that space, so many cool ideas, talented artists, gifted makers and sweet storytellers. Its probably the one of the most wholesome fandoms out there. That they are very inclusive of lgbtq+, bodily impaired and neuro diverse people helps a lot to give this positive vibe. I'm not a furry and some of the NSFW stuff certainly is pretty freaky to me, but I honestly like quite a bit of the art coming from the space too.

I never really gave the term "furry fandom" much thought until my time at Anthrocon this year, when I had a realization that we call ourselves a fandom because we are fans of each other. I recognize and get excited about characters the wider populace would never have even seen, and there are people who get excited at the characters I've created myself. It's so cool and wholesome, and it's really helped drag me out of my cynical, pessimistic shell. I wish the whole world had the same mentality as the furry fandom, where we just want to support each other and revel in each other's accomplishments and creations. Like, yes, we love various characters from media like those in Zootopia, StarFox, and Looney Tunes, but they're the gateway drug, not the main attraction to the fandom. That's just...us. Ourselves, and each other. And I love that about us.

If your reporting is good enough, then you can just let the video speak for itself, show don't tell as they say. tired of new casters having to make everything into a huge song and dance, just to keep people's attention. it's sort of why i hate reality tv shows where they show the story of people Auditioning, just show the act, if they make it through THEN tell us the story. don't make it a pity party.
as i was saying showing reality is the best reporting, it's why i like behind the scenes of movies and music videos, shows the process. Its amazing to find people such as yourself so willing to get to know us rather than putting us down/saying slurs etc like many other medias.
Here in Australia we sometimes get a lot of hate from people but we also try and have super positive relationships with the community, me and some other friends have organised a meet up every 2 weeks and besides a few unwanted people who give us grief, most of the community loves us as we are always being goofy and happy and the kids love us cause we are in essence giant playful plushies/mascots.
Unfortunately there is a side of the furry community which isn't good which many medias use to put us down in the eyes of everyone but most people do not condone the actions of those people and try and educate others, and if you look into every fandom most have a side that isn't as positive as it normally is, so again thank you for taking the time to talk to us.

hello, talking from the weird side of the fandom here
honestly, like in every group, there's a really vocal minority of awful people in the fandom who give us a really bad name
and there's no abundance of sexual content, I draw some myself
but there's so much more than that.
but there's something nice about even that part of the fandom, people are really open about stuff that is traditionally in the west really personal, and the openness doesn't end in sexual stuff, you get to make really strong connections with amazing people, making friendships that are ocean deep, helping each other with stuff I would have a hard time talking to a therapist about and more.
my time in the fandom really really helped me with crippling social anxiety and destructive self image, when my classmates would bully me for simply being quiet and keeping for myself at the time.
to learn to love myself despite how insecure I am, and to grow and improve as a person as I mature up.
yeah not everyone is great in there, but when I dipped my toes in other fandoms, there have been grooming attempts to no end.
school, work and where not, there's always a few people who are awful, it's just a part of living life as a social creature.
to anyone who wonders about the fandom from the outside, yes, you'll find lots of sexual content, and some of the people and groups in it are a problem
but beyond that muck that surfaces to the top of this huge lake, there's tons of talent, passion, love and some of the most amazing people I've ever met

That is kinda accurate but not really, i do not fear the furry community. I fear for what it stands as, people identifying as animals and dressing up like them too. like what has our society become, people have no shame these days. I fear that when I’m older and have kids I have no idea what will be socially acceptable, people could identify as anything or people sexually attracted to animals. At 60 years old I am currently making my first furry partial suit, hopefully head, tail, paws, feet, leg and arm sleeves..
I am part of the lgbtqzxyjfsp+-x or whatever they call it these days, I dont really partake in the activism I am just a male to female transsexual going about my life my way.
I started down this rabbit hole because i am volunteering for Glasgow pride this year and thought it would be fun for the kids attending to make a costume and after much thinking decided on a fursuit.
Then I found out about the furry fandom, not really much happening here in Scottyland on that front yet..
But I soon discovered the hate shown to some furry peeps, and of course some of the dark underbelly of the genre!
But wherever you get large numbers of humans with a common 'thing' you get the same proportion of sick and twisted individuals as you find in the general population.
Its sad that there are people that use the minority or bad to tar the good majority, I have obviously come across the mentality in other walks of life including the hate for being trans.
But there are many people like yourself that can see that we are all individuals and a few bad apples does not mean the whole orchard is rotten.
For me, its a fun way to be something else, and to bring a bit of joy into others lives, its nothing sinister, its just a way to cast off inhibitions and have a fun time, hopefully also a way to raise some funds for local charities in these hard times, I fail to grasp why that should paint a target on me for hateful people to shoot at.
Much kudos to you for not only making a really great video on the subject, but highlighting and debunking the hateful aspect in a fun and entertaining way.

The unashamed self expression in this fandom can be really good for mental health. Along with how much furries care about each other and act as a support network. It's honestly the thing in my life I'm most proud to contribute to for how much good it does. This fandom accepts and helps people that otherwise feel ostracised. We have so many LGBT people, people with autism, people who were severely bullied, people with disabilities etc. I know so many furries that had no friends at all before joining the fandom, and furries gave them love and support and encouraged them to earnestly be themselves. Most of these people tend to target furries willingly and purposely, I'll never know why. As a furry myself, it's wholesome fun on my part. It's a way to express myself or be something different than what I am. If you can't handle the fact that people are different, or they're better than you at something, it's just that; it's YOUR problem.
If YOU have a problem, that's on YOU. Just because you hear about one side of the fandom, be it creeps or real degenerates, that doesn't mean all furries are bad.
Thank you for making an attempt at understanding this weird and funky community, nonetheless a happy community.

In my experience, furries honestly aren't all that different from other fandoms, especially when you've been to anime, comic, and fur conventions alike. In every event you have a bunch of people dedicated to a specific subject, crafting, and dressing in silly costumes while playing a character. Some people are NSFW-oriented, sure, but that doesn't mean that's all there is to the fandom. The only difference is that comic cons and the like involve already-existing familiar characters (sometimes these characters are even anthro), while the furry community mostly embraces OCs. I may be furry-adjacent myself, but I still never understood the hate for them...
I think part of the issue is mistaking furries for bestialists/zoophiles, which is attraction to REAL non-anthropomorphized animals. Every furry I've ever spoken to is strictly against those feelings/practices and shun those who are, and the overwhelming majority of the fandom seems to share those ideas even if they participate in risque anthro content (the main thing setting it apart is anthro animals/fursuiters have HUMAN characteristics and can consent to/express that sort of thing). Many furries actually do a great deal of good for the community and nature thanks to their investment in animal welfare and environmentalism, or at least have a simple interest in the critters that share our planet and take inspiration from them. A good chunk of the fandom doesn't even care for or participate in NSFW at all, and targetting the whole fandom for incorrect assumptions is just unfair.

Thanks for being so neutral and open-minded in this video. I also gotta put my 2 cents in here; even if furries can be “weird sexual deviants,” they do it in their own spaces and websites (take furaffinity and e612 for example.) So many people are falling under the anti-sex (work) mindset to the point where they think people who like feet and armpits are on the same level as pedophiles and abusers simply because it’s weird. There are people who force that stuff into SFW spaces, but it’s extremely frowned upon with most furries.

(Im not a furry) Ive been doing furry commissions for around 4 years now, through the years like 90% of the people were really kind and great. Somewhat people only see the worst things that arent common as they think.. Theres lots of super talented people in the community.

This is what I wish and strive to become: an unbiased, but respectful researcher and interviewer. There's something about them that can learn so many experiences that allow perspective of both; within the trend or outside the lines. Just seeing this video not only gives me inspiration, but plentiful hope for the world.
That, and the furry community. Some people just never tend to respect change, whether it's a "joke" or not.

furry hate is so stupid, once one does something bad, it goes for the whole fandom, and that one person makes the furry fandom look bad

Thank you so much for making this video, I found the humor great haha and I really appreciate the fact that you didn't hide your emotions and you were comfortable showing your turmoil as well as seeing your progression overtime and really getting into the groove. So many people assume that being a furry is a fetish, when the reality is, it isn't. Every fandom has a fetish aspect but the reality is that doesn't mean its 100% a fetish. Being a furry is so much more, and I appreciate the fact you went out of your way to show that so thank you.

The last bit with the camera man hurting him somewhat potrays what the furry community experience on a basis, that its the haters that is actually making the conflicts worse.
We just want to chill, but they genually think it is good to hurt others just because they have an interest, an INTREST! It is not a cult or religious belief, it is litteraly the same thing as people playing video games, they do it because they enjoy it. That is all there is.

I know many people in the comments have already said this but I just want to reiterate how thankfully we all are at how impartial and open you were with this mini documentary. I went into watching this with a worry that is was going to be another hate or controversy piece, (not that the community doesn't have its controversies but it's a breath of fresh air to not have a piece focus on them), but gladly got some true journalism (which is rare these days) focusing on the many other aspects of the community.
as a whole we are a very open and accepting community but can be a bit wary of these kinds of things given how they have been spun and twisted in the past.
