"Furry Adjacent" is the better term for it. Someone who doesn't consider themselves a Furry but accepts and supports them nonetheless, sometimes even participate in activities with Furries. Jonah Scott, voice actor of Legoshi (Beastars) and Aiden Caldwell (Dying Light 2) is a very known Furry Adjacent person. He has a Legoshi skin on VRChat and participates, supports and interacts with fans and the Furry community, such as WhiskeyDingo. But he doesn't seem to outright consider himself part of the fandom.
I am curious how VR would effect phantom pain, I am aware of it and I have heard of the mirror thing that helps... could it work like to help relieve phantom pain if you're like using it with both legs?
