    Interesting I ran across a study from UC Davis about growing dragon fruit in Davis, CA with a zone of 9b. The sugar dragon was the most productive followed by Physical Graffiti and those varieties were also the most cold tolerant. I live in the Bay Area with the same growing zone so I’m going to try a couple of plants.

    Also, I had originally hesitated on getting my Pink Panther and Sugar Dragon cuttings because they were two of the varieties that I had not seen you do a taste test on.
    And here we are a month later and I'm even more excited about growing them now that I watched this. I'm starting to see the tiniest or growth on my PP and SD cuttings so I know the roots are starting to develop.
    I'll be building a greenhouse for all of them next year, so this winter I'll manually be bringing all my babies in. I've currently got 10 varieties going and by next year I hope to be at double!

    I have one white dragon fruit. Its very sweet and juice, make double or more the size i see here. Its just second year that fruiting. And also i bought one 7 years ago and slim and never made any flowers,and when i was ready to throw it it started make lots of flowers this year. all was dropping strange flowers with long stem i believe i saw here similar. Last 2 flowers become fruits! Kinda tiny with longer leaves on fruit. No idea what colour is it.i think my white one,made a single flower a month after all fruits become ready,then the old one kept 2 fruits. I don't know what to do if needs cross pollination. Time of flowering is deferent!

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just need to introduce some more varieties in your garden so that way you can get more flowers to open during the same time to cross pollinate!

    • @JohnJohn-gs2fm
      @JohnJohn-gs2fm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its red and very,very sweet. I thought my big white was sweet,but no near to the sweetness of this redish,almost blood like variety. I bought 6 more red ones with the name of honey dragon fruit. I think the guy said a false name cause i can't find it in Google. Maybe is the sugar dragon fruit.
      This long stem flowers variety its something unique 😍. I really was in shock, when i try it. I can't describe the taste! I can say only amazing taste!
      I called it my self dragons aura. Really looks like a dragon, long and scaling!
      Thanks for the advice 🙏. I hope that new variety fits to the flowering time!

    Edit: I actually started growing my own a couple months ago. No fruit yet. I bought a pre-started supposedly red flesh dragon fruit cactus from Home depot. I am also growing the white flesh and Yellow dragon fruit from seed. The seeds are doing well, most of the yellows at about an inch, and the whites at about half an inch. Going to need to build some of your trellises soon. The whites and Yellows are the generic one you would normally find at Publix. I just took the seeds from those.

    I have Sugar dragon fruit cactus I started from seeds about 1 1/2 years ago. They grew really slow in the beginning and are only about 12" long right now. I just repotted them into a 20" pot so hopefully their growth speeds up.
    Yesterday I noticed a bud growing in a dragon fruit cactus I repotted in February. This bud looks like it started out as a branch then turned into a bud. The stem is about 3/4" long and the bud on the end of it is 1/2" long and doesn't have any thorns growing on it. I've never seen any buds growing like this before. What are the chances of it growing into an actual flower and fruit?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Norm, that could totally be possible for a flower bud to form if the dragon fruit plant has develop mature roots. If the roots are established a flower bud can survive. If its still too young they will revert into a branch and continue on growing. If you'd like to speed up growth I recommend you look into my grafting tutorials this will speed up the fruiting time it will take.
