good post. i think you speak for hundreds of thousands of us. U2 has this inherently intangible aura that you either get or you don't get. That's really what set them apart. It's in their music, photos, and album cover art. This video on mtv back in 1981 is where I discovered them. Next video I recall from them was Two Hearts Beat As One.
I’m here for the kick ass drumming of LM jr! The best U2 ripping drumming EVER! I lots my 16 year old mind when that played this in concert I attended ! I feel in love with drummers❤️ respect for their energy to sustain this level of intensity and speed from “ boy crazy” to “ man crazy”😂
This track was released as a single in the UK in October 1981 and reached number 55. It's from their second album "October" which was also released in October 1981 and got to number 11 in the UK album charts when released. It is a very underated U2 album.
I used to watch mtv all the time to see this video back in 1981. there was just something different about this band back then from all that was going on in the music scene. No one ever imagined back then what the future held for this band. lol
I try to sing this song I...I try to stand up But I can't find my feet I try, I try to speak up But only in you I'm complete Gloria...in te domine Gloria...exultate Gloria...Gloria Oh Lord, loosen my lips
I was 14 when this song was on the radio, and I appreciate it so much more today. One of those songs that to me is angelical, u don't want it to end,cause you'll have to touch the ground again. Thanks to whom ever posted it.
When U2 emerged in the early 80's, there was no one quite like them. Their older music, hit a chord deep and resaonated within. I remember when Boy album was released, I was out at the record shops buying their album... wow that was eons ago....
October is my personal favorite U2 album from their early period. It's lyrical content is much deeper than Boy and more personal than War. Several tracks on October foreshadow similar melodies on Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree. Some of those tracks are October, Scarlet, Tomorrow, I Threw a Brick Threw a Window, and Stranger in a Strange Land. In many ways, U2's second album represents a maturing that might've happened too fast after the relative lightness of their debut album.
'Oh Lord, loosen my lips' That prayer was certainly answered! Those lips haven't stopped moving for 20 yrs. But,after years spent shouting at the world to drop African debt etc.the great humanitarian Bono is strangely silent lately.No campaigns,or meeting with global leaders in regard to Irelands crisis which leaves several future generations to deal with crippling taxes & shocking austerity. All so a wealthy elite wont have to loose a tiny percentage of their colossal wealth. What a guy!
Kinda sad that this Video has only 80,000 plus views. Simple for today but that's not all that really matters with this band. So glad I can come here and watch it whenever I feel like. One of the Best Bands ever!!
Wanderere Autunm
@TheRisingDead87 I hope by 'new crap' you don't mean U2s new music because I assure you they are just as amazing as they were back then. But if you are talking about the new hip-hop/rap music of today then I totally agree.
Just an FYI for SolanoEastWood: The song "Gloria" and the record "October" were both released in 1981 as was this video and not 1983. Thanks for downloading though! Great memories!
I liked the bono of then, he looked an 80's gangmember who was dragged of the streets and put on stage, and turned out to have this fucking beautifull voice
@horsesrock129 , yes, this is classical music..for eternety. U2 are modern day mozarts. I cannot say this to any other band. they just stand above the rest.
Underrated by critics.... any U2 fan knows that October is the root of U2 through and through. And one of their finest!!!

The best song from the best band in the history of rock.

yeah the best band!!!!!!!! U2!!!!!!!!!!
Scaping from classes, mousse hairstyle, tigh jeans and and my first boyfriend. That's what U2 represented from me in those days: harmonies of youth!!

The Bass !

Not to mention their "pro-choice" activism.....

VH1 didn't exist when this video and song were released. It was in heavy rotation on Mtv back then.
That's what he/she(?) meant.
2:52... Beautiful Woman!
bono=wonderful
@sfumato1002 i luv this song and old school U2 but lets go that far dude. lol
I liked the bono of then, he looked an 80's gangmember who was dragged of the streets and put on stage, and turned out to have this fucking beautifull voice
@Zennofobic What great insight. Yep, just art and music. Trust me, religion gets better as you get older.
We will never see bands like this again. the music culture of today is too weak to produce a band like this
The best of this video is the last sentence saying: "If you believe in something..........believe in u2"
:'D
1981 this album came out....
this is kick ass megaman level music
@JanetEsq
i try
gloria in te domine = glory in you, Lord
gloria , exultate = glory, (you can) exult
or something like that...
10 molegue

1983? IT WAS 1981!
i don't know how adam didn't get mad for having his bass solo cut.......
bono's hair is funny
@horsesrock129 , yes, this is classical music..for eternety. U2 are modern day mozarts. I cannot say this to any other band. they just stand above the rest.
Id have to disagree Alice, on the latest album mostly though. Atomic bomb and ATYCLB were awesome.
ADAM CLAYTON!!!!!
Can someone translate the Latin? Thanks.
Early U2 kicks later U2's ass. ;)
son lo mas. mas que jutin biber
Ummm, this is VH1, not MTV xD
@wickedgiggler2011 Try BroccoliTV
1982 not 1983
@sfumato1002 never
