Real World Q400 Captain and FO - Max Crosswind Challenge in P3D

  • This was another practice session which somehow turned into a haphazard throwdown of flying skills between our two Q400 crewmembers. Don't expect to learn much, but there might be a laugh or two thrown in...
Before anyone raises it in the comments - no, you're not supposed to land that far from the centreline. P3D is genuinely trickier than the real aircraft when it comes to holding the runway centre during the flare... Also we're both really rusty at this point, having not seen the inside of a real plane in quite some months.
Remember what we said about pilots and their excuses?!

Don’t be mean to Dash-chan, she tries her best.

Im scared of ever flying with you. One because I know youd play weeb music over the intercom and probably speaking to the tower in broken anime japanese and two because you'd give me a free flight straight into the Twin Towers.

Don’t be silly... The twin towers haven’t been a thing for years~

That was funny, well done. I made a whole video series with the Dash and a Flybe pilot so I know it ain’t easy. Looks like you rode the brakes on the take off roll, hence the config?

Thank you! On short runways it is beneficial to delay the take off roll with a bit of power on the brakes. The config warning isn't affected by toe brakes, only the parking brake!

@@FlyFromHome ah yes I guess that’s true. The good old Dash, as temperamental in the sim as in real life!

Your centerline tracking was bollocks guys.
Both of you are flying right of centerline for the whole approach, then you correct at the very last moment which means you get even more crab than you should have.

Oh absolutely, Thankfully our real world flying doesn't reflect this! As it was a first attempt on a home simulator with maximum crosswind, it took some getting used to - It's not the easiest to judge on a flat screen with strong crosswinds!
