    Ha ha! the part at the end with the cutting board!
    Now that's what a skylight is supposed to look like.
    Tongue and groove, great for saunas but overused in van conversions, also I could imagine all the dracula stakes instantly made if involved in an accident, sharp splintering stakes getting forced into anything in their path, not for me.

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yes no good for making sandwiches on now 🤔😂, yeah agree with you on the tongue and groove front, that's why I went down the ply lining route, because everyone seems to be using it, imagine the weight of some of those vans must be 🤔, something I can't afford is too much weight due to the power pack going in 🤔😉👍👍👍

    Hi, I don’t understand how you removed the rib. Was that a jigsaw? By the way, Dometic has discontinued its roof hatches.
    On another note, I just bought a Ram Promaster here in the States. Similar to a Fiat Ducato. The vehicle is two years old and someone had previously made it into a camper, although pretty crudely. There are currently two vent fans in the roof, both in the wrong locations. Can you recommend how I can best patch the fan opening? It’s 14“ x 14“. I’m thinking some oversized sheet metal Glued down and weatherproofed from the outside, and welded from the inside.
    After that, I want to put in a roof hatch similar to yours but in a different location. Hey on your roof hatch, it looks like it opens to about 70°. Do you think that’s enough room to be able to climb out onto the roof through the hatch? The hatch I’m looking at also opens up to 70°. I’d like to build a deck on the roof and access it through the hatch. Thanks for your time!

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi bud😉👍, regarding the roof rib, I drilled out the spot welds (wasn't spot welded in that good to be fair) and cut through the glue that was bonding the rib on to the roof with a Stanley knife (the video needed condensing down a bit unfortunately).
      We can still get the Heki ll in the UK (not cheap mind you 😬) amzn.to/3oA9TqC
      Regarding your cover ups for the roof skylight hole's .
      I'd be inclined to visit a breakers yard to see if there's any scrapped promasters within stock, and get them to cut the sections out for you, that's needed to overlap/cover those holes up, I'd probably do the same way as you (an sandwich of glue between the panels and a bead of weld inside). 😎👌👍👍👍.

      Only what I've mentioned in the video matey, but just go carefully when drilling the spot welds! Because you can quite easily go through the roof, like I did on mine 🤦‍♂️🙄😅😉👌👍👍👍.

    I have the same skylight and we plan on installing it in a couple of days. How has it held up? No leaks? Because I noticed that it is designed different than our roof fans. So there is space to put the bonding agent (like grooves), but on the side with the hinges there is practically no space to manage to seal around the edges with sika or whatever. I could "silicone" around 3 sides, but not the hinged side. Cause normally one would use butyl to glue it, fasten it with screws, and then silicone around the edges on the outside. The fact that we cant do that 3rd step worries me. So just wondering if its been ok for you? I hope my explanation makes sense to you 😊

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there Becky, mine has been fine, using the none drying bedding sealant seem to of done it's trick, although I too couldn't really seal the hinged end, but managed to seal the three other side edges using sikaflex. As yet nearly two years on, still no issues I've noticed, as long you can get the roof flat to mate the skylight to the roof you should be fine by sealing the underside lip of the skylight before fitting it 😉👌👍.

      Becky - I have installed a Heki 2 on my van twice this same way (using pieces of a cutting block to level the top, and a wood inner frame), and I am about to re-install it a third time. Have had it in the van for about two years now. It keeps leaking on me. I suspect that it is leaking where the hinges are, just the place where you were concerned! I am about to order a custom adapter set of upper & lower adapters, to see if I can fix the problem. Proceed with caution!

      I have a trade card for B&Q even though I’ve been retired for 5 years ,I still do bits and peace’s to help pay for the van build . I should of looked for a caravan to take everything I needed out of it but with no were to park it and some neighbours giving me funny looks but saying nothing , if I have a caravan in the street they more likely would do , your videos have been a great help more so with having the same van , I’m thinking of putting a rising bed in my van for the two youngest grandchildren so we can take them with us now and then , it may be by the time I have it completed they may not want to come with us .
