The timber beams for the Arched Nave ( spelling ? ) were from Oak trees sourced all over France,and hewn and shaped by master craftsmen using only broard axes,and even deviations as in the early ones were shaped in. Then the pegs cut to slot together ( I dont know proper terms)

If the FFs did indeed set the roof on fire, as a former Dallas battalion chief, I'd surmise that the reason was to allow for ventilation of the superheated gasses and smoke, which would have permitted them to enter the engulfed area, extinguish the remaining fire, and prevent a total loss of the magnificent and historic structure.

A beautiful service / ceremony. The cathedral is glorious and remarkable. Beautifully bright. When I was there 20 years ago it was dark, in need of cleaning and old. A face lift after 1,000 years!
I saw Notre Dame in 2003, and the thing I remember the most is the stained glass windows. If you ever go to Paris, its definitely a must just to see those works of art. The whole structure is a work of art, but those windows...❤

It WAS (re)built "yesterday". Tragically, Notre Dam was largely destroyed in a massive fire five years ago. A massive enterprise has recreated a virtually exact copy of the original, centuries-old cathedral but it remains only a copy. Sadly, the work of those long-dead original craftsmen was destroyed; but it was a beautiful thing to recreate such a gorgeous example of the wonderful achievements of our 12th century antecedents. I hope our own age can leave behind such great memorials of our time on earth. However, I doubt that examples like the glass carbuncle on the face of Louvre will stand such a long-term test if time. That one always reminds me of the tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes".
Notre-Dame is fully restored to the point as it was first built. This is an excellent example of the priceless treasures that should be saved and preserved for future generations to come. A beautiful service / ceremony. The cathedral is glorious and remarkable. Beautifully bright. When I was there 20 years ago it was dark, in need of cleaning and old. A face lift after 1,000 years!
I visited 27 years ago. I’m glad I had the opportunity to see it.

I saw Notre Dame in 2003, and the thing I remember the most is the stained glass windows. If you ever go to Paris, its definitely a must just to see those works of art. The whole structure is a work of art, but those windows...❤

In 1987 as a 19-year-old Backpacker I was in France when my grandfather died I lit a candle for him at Notre Dame.

It WAS (re)built "yesterday". Tragically, Notre Dam was largely destroyed in a massive fire five years ago. A massive enterprise has recreated a virtually exact copy of the original, centuries-old cathedral but it remains only a copy. Sadly, the work of those long-dead original craftsmen was destroyed; but it was a beautiful thing to recreate such a gorgeous example of the wonderful achievements of our 12th century antecedents. I hope our own age can leave behind such great memorials of our time on earth. However, I doubt that examples like the glass carbuncle on the face of Louvre will stand such a long-term test if time. That one always reminds me of the tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes".

What amazes me is that they used the same techniques and workmanship as the original builders diwn to getting material from the original sources when they could.

I have been there twice and the restoration that they have done is incredible. I am looking forward to seeing it once again. Unbelievable work, the old stone was yellowing and browning over the centuries.
