I've had 2 out of 3 SIGs fail on me (P365 firing pin broke and P320 feed ramp issues) so I sold my third ... went to Glock and 8000 + rounds later no issues.
Thanks for doing this. It’s good to see how these ran for you. I checked below and didn’t see any comment on this. With the gen 5’s Glock went to a traditional rifled barrel across the board. This eliminates the non-jacketed concern or at least it’s no more a concern than with any other rifled barrel. Cheers.
This is not accurate information. They did not switch to traditional rifling in any of their models. The statement below was taken from their website. GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) features a more aggressive polygonal rifling with a target-style crown and tighter chamber specs, which delivers improved accuracy. You can check if your specific model has the Glock Marksman Barrel by looking at the markings on the barrel. If you see a “GMB” logo next to the chamber size, your pistol has the Glock Marksman Barrel. If you don’t see any logo, your pistol does not have the Glock Marksman Barrel.
Great video!!!! If I recall, Chuke’s did make an update video, where he cleaned and oiled the Gen5 Glock 20 and tested it again. As I recall, it performed just fine with the hardcast ammo after the initial cleaning. (If I misspoke on the facts, please correct me here Chukes).
Alaskan Ballistics cleaned Chukes Glock 20 gen 5 and it shot just fine without any jams. Ive been watching a lot of G20 gen 5 videos since I recently acquired one
Personally, I'm waiting for a Gen5 G29/G30. When they release, I really hope they decide to make a flush-fit magazine because I hate the gap of previous generations.
That whole thing about replacing you’re barrel after so many Hardcast rounds is not a factor to worry about with most Hardcast projectiles having a 21 bhn compared to lead projectiles that are 5 bhn. Buffalo bore has some good Hardcast projectiles that don’t utilize the coating Underwood uses, it’s not a big deal because the barrel will be fine regardless of it being coated.
@@9MilRidge I was worried it would have problems like the new S&W 10mm that’s the only reason I tested it so much. I only used powerful ammo because that’s all I care about. I think the Underwood is the hottest plus I tried some Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game and I feel confident it’s good to go. Thanks for this video.
The problem with shooting the powerful stuff that is actually up to 10mm specs is that the 17# recoil spring just doesn’t keep it reliable. It lets the gun run too violently. Toss it and put in a 20# recoil spring at minimum when shooting full power heavy loads. Gun cycles much smoother
If you're needing decent practice ammo that is halfway warm get some blazer brass and forget about that armscor. It's loaded over 100fps faster than armscor at 1200fps.
7:55 where did you hear this myth? I assure you it’s perfectly safe to run Hardcast through any Glock barrel. I have personally over 20k rounds of Hardcast through my G29,G20, and G40 combined. No issues. All factory Glock barrels. The disclaimer from Glock is about cast lead bullet not Hardcast. Hardcast is perfectly fine and dandy. The danger that comes with shooting soft cast lead bullets through the polygonal Glock barrels is they tend to lead foul easier, and if you follow the lead with a full metal jacket bullet it creates a large pressure spike and can rupture the case head. In fact the coating they use on those Hardcast bullets from underwood and Buffalo bore etc.. is highly toxic and has been known to cause excessive wear on the rifling.
@@ittbelitt8409 it’s perfectly safe. Just monitor how many rounds you run down the barrel and give it a cleaning if any leading starts to build up. I usually would run about 5 jacketed bullets through my Glock barrel after 2-300 rounds of Hardcast lead. Cleans it right outa there. It’s a very old and time tested trick used by a lot of people that shoot lead bullets. Just don’t do it if your barrel is heavily leaded up. What’s so confusing about my last sentence? It’s quite clear. The painted coating they use on Hardcast bullets will wear out your barrel faster and is more toxic to breathe the fumes than Hardcast bullets without the coating.
Could you comment (or make a video) discussing what constitutes "normal" reliability in a 10mm pistol. After watching several videos like this I noticed a couple of cases where someone getting a single failure in a P320 X-TEN expressed concern, whereas others treated a single failure in a Glock G20 as a non-issue. Coming from revolvers and bolt action rifles, I'd appreciate any info that helps with how to interpret this data.
The reason why is bc there’s so many variables in 10mm is bc there’s so many projectile shapes and different loads available ranging from 40s&w light loads up to full power 357mag equality loads even loads up lower power 41mag and black hills 10mm loads claiming close to 44mag, there’s so many factors that’s why 10mm firearms are so debated no matter what you run in short I guess to answer your question is really whatever 10mm firearm runs the mass majority of 10mm out there reliably in 10mm there isn’t a standard per say just whatever you choose runs every well unless you grab a 10mm revolver from ruger or s&w ps the 10mm revolvers will run 40s&w too
I've had multiple ftf from my g20.5. The consensus is these things can't run a light without a heavier recoil spring, at least a 22. Sounds dumb I know. Barrel upgrade and mag springs are also recommended if you're having issues. Pretty disappointing from Glock, but it's still probably the most reliable of current 10mm offerings, as they're mostly unreliable (Sig, S&W, Springfield).

Honestly they're pretty similar minus the finger grooves on the Gen 5 which I personally like better. And having the optics cut is nice if you want to put a optic on there. So I would say the Gen 5 just because of the optic cut but if you want a better deal and don't care about an optics cut slide get a gen 4.

What improvement? Just fixed their finger groove mistake & added an optic mount. Still the same old selective Bbls & lousy triggers. That's why there's so many aftermarket parts. Glock never got it right from the very beginning. Get a. Springfield XDM Elite. Ambidextrous everything, NOT ammo picky, built in optics mount. Cheaper & just as tough/ reliable/ accurate. Glock WAS the best when they 1st came out because they were the ONLY ones of their kind. Competition & free market has changed that. Lot like Harleys, best in their day because they were the ONLY ones in their day but TODAY most every other scoot is better & cheaper. Glock & Harley share the same thing. Overpriced phallic symbols. I just found the perfect carry rounds in 10mm that hit point of aim in my guns 👍 it's the double tap 165 grain golden sabers and they are awesome and really freaking hot
Joey P, Thanks, haven't tried them yet. As an Alaskan the 220 grain Underwoods are the same. Point of aim w/o using the sights w the Springfield XDM-Elite. Natural point due to it's ergonomics. In a bear attack won't have time to aim anyway & the 10mm is taking over up here precisely for bear/ moose attacks. AND, Chuke is a moron. SHOULD have cleaned & oiled before the 1st shot anyway. Just because he has a channel doesn't make him smart. When he 1st got to Alaska he was claiming the 270 was the ultimate Grizzly stopper. Took him YEARS to figure out he was wrong & FINALLY switch up to the 45/70. Good thing he wasn't ever attacked using his stupid bolt action 270. Nice video, although the ODM (Overly Dramatic Music) is a bit distracting. A couple of technical points, if I may. The HSM bear loads you used are just FMJ, not hard-cast lead with a jacket as you stated. The Gen. 5 G20 does not have a polygonal rifled barrel. It has, just as all Gen 5s have, a standard grooved rifled barrel which allows the use of any bare lead bullets including hard-cast--no coating required. Having spoken with a Glock engineer on this subject, he stated limited hard cast can be fired in a polygonal barrel, but the clean up is quite time consuming, as Chuke's Outdoor Adventures found out. However, Glock still recommends against any bare lead or coated lead bullets in Gen. 1 - 4 barrels, and use of such bullets may void any product support from Glock. The engineer also stated the solid copper bullets from Lehigh Defense are acceptable in polygonal barrels, which means you can shoot Buffalo Bore's 190 grain solid copper "Dangerous Game" loads in the older Glocks as an alternative to hard-cast lead. If you have an older Gen G20, best to get an aftermarket, standard rifled barrel if you plan to use bare lead bullets. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

Don’t gen5’s have the marksmen barrel s polygonal? Unless the G20 gen 5 is different??? I thought they switched? Did you shoot the M&P or Springfield yet?
Yes they do have the Marksman barrel which is more accurate but you still have to make sure you use coated hardcast in it otherwise you can blow the barrel. But that's an easy fix cuz you can just swap out for an aftermarket barrel. I have shot the Springfield it's awesome! Haven't shot the M&P yet.
I sincerely hope that Glock has somehow beefed up the receiver on the 10mm. Aberdeen Proving Ground tested all .40 S&W submissions for my agency (US Border Patrol) including Beretta, S&W, Glock, Ruger and Sig-Sauer. The Glock submissions (3) all catastrophically failed between 6,000 and 8,000 rounds. Subsequently Glock added a locking block support pin which cured the problem. Now, the Generation 5's being manufactured without the locking block pin!(?) I sincerely hope that Glock has somehow reinforced their 10mm receivers. My plan is to purchase a Glock 20 SF Gen 3. The key is the "SF" designation meaning, I believe, a short frame which fits my hands much better than the standard full size version. BTW - The Gen 3 versions has the locking block pin!

The Gen4 and Gen5 models use a much more robust dual recoil spring assembly, which works exceptionally well, so much so that the 3rd pin no longer offered any benefit in return for its additional cost, so it was dropped from all Gen5 models. Also, SF (Short Frame) is relevant to Gen3 models, whereas Gen4 and Gen5 models use the MBS (Multiple Backstrap System) frame, which is also smaller than a standard Gen3 frame (without any backstrap added). Finally, the Gen5 .40 S&W models use a heavier slide, and of course, the 10mm have always been bigger and beefier. I've owned many different models and generations of Glock pistols since 1988, and under no circumstances would I ignore the updates and improvements of the newer generations and buy a Gen3 G20.
Hsm bear loads are loaded super weak and suck!!! Don't use them for bear defense as they are loaded to 40s&w levels as well. Literally like 400 and some odd ft lbs of energy!!! Should be about 250ftlbs higher

The reason why is bc there’s so many variables in 10mm is bc there’s so many projectile shapes and different loads available ranging from 40s&w light loads up to full power 357mag equality loads even loads up lower power 41mag and black hills 10mm loads claiming close to 44mag, there’s so many factors that’s why 10mm firearms are so debated no matter what you run in short I guess to answer your question is really whatever 10mm firearm runs the mass majority of 10mm out there reliably in 10mm there isn’t a standard per say just whatever you choose runs every well unless you grab a 10mm revolver from ruger or s&w ps the 10mm revolvers will run 40s&w too

I have the g21 gen 5 love it
I've had multiple ftf from my g20.5. The consensus is these things can't run a light without a heavier recoil spring, at least a 22. Sounds dumb I know. Barrel upgrade and mag springs are also recommended if you're having issues. Pretty disappointing from Glock, but it's still probably the most reliable of current 10mm offerings, as they're mostly unreliable (Sig, S&W, Springfield).
Becarful with armscor, i had 2 squib loads one with 10mm and one with 38 special.

Honestly they're pretty similar minus the finger grooves on the Gen 5 which I personally like better. And having the optics cut is nice if you want to put a optic on there. So I would say the Gen 5 just because of the optic cut but if you want a better deal and don't care about an optics cut slide get a gen 4.

200 grain is a real 10mm.

Nice! So you used a mix of Gen4 & Gen5 mags? I got a X-Ten, as i don't like the ergo's of Glocks, my first pistol was a p320xf .9mm so i naturally went for the Sig X-Ten, i was wondering what you think about how "beefy" the FCU, frame, (the gun) in general is in relation to 10mm?
As far as I can tell it's going to hold up nicely just like my Glock Gen 4 has. I love the feel of the SIG XTEN.

What improvement? Just fixed their finger groove mistake & added an optic mount. Still the same old selective Bbls & lousy triggers. That's why there's so many aftermarket parts. Glock never got it right from the very beginning. Get a. Springfield XDM Elite. Ambidextrous everything, NOT ammo picky, built in optics mount. Cheaper & just as tough/ reliable/ accurate. Glock WAS the best when they 1st came out because they were the ONLY ones of their kind. Competition & free market has changed that. Lot like Harleys, best in their day because they were the ONLY ones in their day but TODAY most every other scoot is better & cheaper. Glock & Harley share the same thing. Overpriced phallic symbols. Nothing more.

Joey P, Thanks, haven't tried them yet. As an Alaskan the 220 grain Underwoods are the same. Point of aim w/o using the sights w the Springfield XDM-Elite. Natural point due to it's ergonomics. In a bear attack won't have time to aim anyway & the 10mm is taking over up here precisely for bear/ moose attacks. AND, Chuke is a moron. SHOULD have cleaned & oiled before the 1st shot anyway. Just because he has a channel doesn't make him smart. When he 1st got to Alaska he was claiming the 270 was the ultimate Grizzly stopper. Took him YEARS to figure out he was wrong & FINALLY switch up to the 45/70. Good thing he wasn't ever attacked using his stupid bolt action 270. Too slow, too small & not near enough thump to stop a charging bear.

Nice video, although the ODM (Overly Dramatic Music) is a bit distracting. A couple of technical points, if I may. The HSM bear loads you used are just FMJ, not hard-cast lead with a jacket as you stated. The Gen. 5 G20 does not have a polygonal rifled barrel. It has, just as all Gen 5s have, a standard grooved rifled barrel which allows the use of any bare lead bullets including hard-cast--no coating required. Having spoken with a Glock engineer on this subject, he stated limited hard cast can be fired in a polygonal barrel, but the clean up is quite time consuming, as Chuke's Outdoor Adventures found out. However, Glock still recommends against any bare lead or coated lead bullets in Gen. 1 - 4 barrels, and use of such bullets may void any product support from Glock. The engineer also stated the solid copper bullets from Lehigh Defense are acceptable in polygonal barrels, which means you can shoot Buffalo Bore's 190 grain solid copper "Dangerous Game" loads in the older Glocks as an alternative to hard-cast lead. If you have an older Gen G20, best to get an aftermarket, standard rifled barrel if you plan to use bare lead bullets. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
This is not accurate information. They did not switch to traditional rifling in any of their models. The statement below was taken directly from their website, not repeated by a wannabe "Glock engineer."
GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) features a more aggressive polygonal rifling with a target-style crown and tighter chamber specs, which delivers improved accuracy. You can check if your specific model has the Glock Marksman Barrel by looking at the markings on the barrel. If you see a “GMB” logo next to the chamber size, your pistol has the Glock Marksman Barrel. If you don’t see any logo, your pistol does not have the Glock Marksman Barrel.

Yes they do have the Marksman barrel which is more accurate but you still have to make sure you use coated hardcast in it otherwise you can blow the barrel. But that's an easy fix cuz you can just swap out for an aftermarket barrel. I have shot the Springfield it's awesome! Haven't shot the M&P yet.

I sincerely hope that Glock has somehow beefed up the receiver on the 10mm. Aberdeen Proving Ground tested all .40 S&W submissions for my agency (US Border Patrol) including Beretta, S&W, Glock, Ruger and Sig-Sauer. The Glock submissions (3) all catastrophically failed between 6,000 and 8,000 rounds. Subsequently Glock added a locking block support pin which cured the problem. Now, the Generation 5's being manufactured without the locking block pin!(?) I sincerely hope that Glock has somehow reinforced their 10mm receivers.
My plan is to purchase a Glock 20 SF Gen 3. The key is the "SF" designation meaning, I believe, a short frame which fits my hands much better than the standard full size version. BTW - The Gen 3 versions has the locking block pin!

The Gen4 and Gen5 models use a much more robust dual recoil spring assembly, which works exceptionally well, so much so that the 3rd pin no longer offered any benefit in return for its additional cost, so it was dropped from all Gen5 models. Also, SF (Short Frame) is relevant to Gen3 models, whereas Gen4 and Gen5 models use the MBS (Multiple Backstrap System) frame, which is also smaller than a standard Gen3 frame (without any backstrap added). Finally, the Gen5 .40 S&W models use a heavier slide, and of course, the 10mm have always been bigger and beefier. I've owned many different models and generations of Glock pistols since 1988, and under no circumstances would I ignore the updates and improvements of the newer generations and buy a Gen3 G20.

Hsm bear loads are loaded super weak and suck!!! Don't use them for bear defense as they are loaded to 40s&w levels as well. Literally like 400 and some odd ft lbs of energy!!! Should be about 250ftlbs higher

And prob, rightfully so. Massive FAST firepower even with an inferior round compared to the former basics. ( 44 & up) & WAY lighter weapons more likely to be carried ON a person trump's the older, bigger, heavier units. Bear attacks ALWAYS come head on & FAST, usually up close & even the 40 cal works just fine for blowing a bears brain out through it's heart. Back to Glock, it is also THE most returned gun at the gun shops. And the reason their Bbls are made the way they are is because it's the cheapest way of making a bbl. GREED is their motive. And only suckers defend an inferior made gun because their mistaken value system revolves around price. Even Taurus triggers are better than Glocks are. But Taurus wised up & fired their inferior designers & retooled & hired better designers. AND, it's only a matter of time until the other major mfgrs figure out how to equal/surpass the flexible lowers Glocks have & compleatly blow radically overpriced Glocks out of the water. And the lowers are the ONLY advantage Glock has. And if YOU we're honest you'd admit you replaced the crap triggers in your units. Prob went to KKM Bbls too so you could shoot the hardcast w/o blowing yours up. Like I said from the beginning. Everything can/should be improved. Glocks lack of major improvements are the sign of maximizing profits & depending on sucker customer loyalty to survive. Want a REAL test.
