Some choose to include the development stage on the graph before the introduction. This stage can be called conception, innovation or development. It is when the product is being researched and designed. Although, there are no sales happening at that stage, some argue that it is part of the PLC some argue that it isn't. The PLC is after all a theory. I hope I haven't confused you. If I have just ignore what I said haha :D
Thank you for sharing all these videos, they are really helpful for my Business environment studies - I have my exam tomorrow and watching all your related videos today as refreshers :)
There are limitations to this theory, like for example its hard to know exactly at which point that the product enters a maturity/decline stage [in a quantifiable way].Likewise what are some of its other limitations?
Can the Product Life Cycle be used as a theory to define the market competition (by identifying where the competitors each have their position within intro, growth, maturity or decline section)?
Omg! THANK YOU so much for this wonderful explanation!! You made my life easier & prepared me for my final exam :) ..better than a $300 txt book lol. I LOVE YOU! ❤ lol God bless :)
That sounds about right Saif. It's generally a good strategy to begin working on possible redesigns and other revisions once the product gets into the maturity stage. This can help to prolong the life of the product and avoid venturing into the decline stage. Businesses also try to have new products entering the market to replace the ones that are potentially leaving it as well. Nice job!
Would you consider Yeezy boost 350 growth stage or Maturity stage, My lecturer doesn't believe that they in a growth stage, However she never mention which stage they in. Mind helping me as I need this information ASAP
+Ayabulela Tshotyana I'm not really sure Ayabulela. If you can find revenue growth rates that would be helpful. The general footwear market is likely in maturity, however individual brands within that market can be growing.
+Lamis Shehata Nope... this is only like 2 months late, but they would most likely be dropped in the growth stage as the company would lose funding and thus lead to a failed product.
Alexander Jacob right now? Theyre experiencing extension because of their rise in the gaming market, they arent declining, but rather switching markets. However, at the time of this video, they were declining
Sloam Loser thanks! totally was not expecting a reply, and I was just curious as to what the study was actually looking at, as all computer companies have had an increase in stock prices pretty much. thanks! thanks
Dear Friends, I have many questions about product life cycle: 1/ New product introduction stage: The market is not yet available, the basic purchasing power is not high, running continuous campaigns + promotions, gross profit margin is only 1-3% and it can be less than 0. 2/ The Growth stage: The market has accepted the product and continues to grow in terms of market share, at this time, revenue and gross profit has grown steadily, basic purchasing power has increased, but it costs a lot to run campaigns and maintain. Basic promotions. 3/ Booming period: Revenue and gross profit grew significantly (> 20%). 4/ Should we track the product life cycle year by year?. Do you have any suggestions?. Thank you.
Yeah but what if there are fluctuations in revenue during one stage, does that mean it automatically goes to a decline stage?! For example Coke/Pepsi have fluctuations through seasons but they are holding the maturity stage for... decades now. :/
Cool, thanks! This was so helpful with preparing for exams. So sick of reading my textbook - this was a lot more interactive and interesting for me.
Glad to hear that! I hope your exams went well. Thanks for watching!

Can the Product Life Cycle be used as a theory to define the market competition (by identifying where the competitors each have their position within intro, growth, maturity or decline section)?
okay thank you for your response. so basically the product redevelopment is an extension strategy right?
Thank you very much this is helpful...but what about the saturation stage, where does it come in?
Thanks for helping me to understand this chapter! Good job done!
Thank you. This helped understand the difference btwn product development life cycle and product life cycle

Thank you for sharing. I am now more than ready for my presentation tomorrow.
is product development part of the product life cycle right before introduction?
It is useful to include the R&D section if you are also plotting the profit of a particular product.
Thank you so much for the wonderful lecture
So what would you say are the things to analyse when trying to determine what stage a product is at?
A few things you may want to look at are sales revenue and profits over a multiple periods. Good question!
This is an awesome explanation and i would like to to thank you for that.
wow
it was great explanation with very good examples.

I will use the examples in my exams.

Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching.
In the maturity stage u wer talking about Product life extension through new features, redesign, new packaging etc right? or did i get that wrong?
That sounds about right Saif. It's generally a good strategy to begin working on possible redesigns and other revisions once the product gets into the maturity stage. This can help to prolong the life of the product and avoid venturing into the decline stage. +Ayabulela Tshotyana I'm not really sure Ayabulela. If you can find revenue growth rates that would be helpful. The general footwear market is likely in maturity, however individual brands within that market can be growing.
Would the typical life cycle, including all stages, still hold for unsuccessful products?
+Lamis Shehata Nope... this is only like 2 months late, but they would most likely be dropped in the growth stage as the company would lose funding and thus lead to a failed product.
God bless your business school
+G Awuah Thank you! Please tell your friends and thanks for watching.
Are desktops really declining, or is the market shifting to individual parts being sold?

Wht do the axes denote(X n Y)?
The X-axis represent the sales and the Y-axis would be the time.
Is this the same thing as the industry life cycle?
