Bless this video! It saved me a million hours of effort. I thought for the longest of time I couldnt do this, but with your help you made it possible! Thanks!
This video was very helpful, thank you! I do have a sort of off topic question though. I was wondering if you knew how to import height maps from L3DT into the creation kit. I want to do this because it is a fantastic tool for realistic terrain creation.
Thank you mselibrown1, I do wish I had more time to tinker around with the creation kit too. But life has caught up with me and I have run out of time between work and taking care of a family! Best of luck to you as you create new worlds!
Glad you liked it Mega! This is my very first youtube vid ever so im excited to see it helped some one. :) There is more vids to come and I just finished part 2.
:) Great tutorial. One question, how are you able to *See so far in this view? when I'm looking around, I can only see a very short distance, certainly not most of the island like here.
hi. greating from Venezuela. i have a question, how makes the maps that we can view pressing "m" in a game? it is automaticallly or we have to make to? i hope you can answer me. great tutorial
Heya David, having followed your tutorials before I wondered something. How is it you've come to hide the water in your world space? I followed what you did when setting this up, but I can still see water in the render window. Thanks much OOPS, I set my land height to -100 as opposed to -500
The only issues ive been having with the CK for Fallout 4 is the inability to have my custom DDS map image of my cityscape to show up in the pipboy even with the custom name. Even if I create a worldspace completely from scratch with no parenting. Quite frustrating lol
Hm, when I saved the landscape changes of the editor and skipped those wait messages just as you did by pushing enter and then try to save the plugin file it tells me that the plugin file is being currently used and cant be saved. At the bottom of the CK main window I also get the saving.... message. Kinda weird that it takes that long with ma 16 gig of ram and my i7 4970k.
I think I understand your problem but let me try to understand a little better. You said the creation kit fails to load the height map data? So you go into the height map editor and you did some work. Then you hit the save button and then hit cancel a couple times. Then when you try to look at your work in the cell view your changes have not been made?
Trying to make my island port worldspace bigger, since when LOD is generated, the map is too small, I think? and the sea kind falls off the borders lol
Nice tutorial, but I have a problem... don't know if its happened to you too; when I open the heightmap editor instead of the blue map you get, mine is green and i cant see the cursor. And my render window turns grey... refresh won't help.
Bandit Brethren To be honest I don't really know. I tried ticking it on once and the world didn't seem to be restricted in size at all. My guess would be that it is more of a category thing. Like when you make a bunch of "small worlds" they will be grouped together in the world pick list? But again just my guess.
Hi man, Iam trying to make an island in skyrim for like a couple weeks now. When i open the new worldspace i get water indeed as here, but there is no land underneath it ? Do you have any suggestions what i do wrong ? I tryed to edit the world with the height map editor but nothing seems to work here.
542stefan1 Wow, that's is a bug I have not heard of before. I can't say I have ever seen that in any of my builds. My one thought is if you left the Land Height box empty that could possibly be the problem?
I think there's something wrong with mine: when I open the heightmap for the first time the window is all green and there's no cursor. If I close it and open it again it's fine but the render window turns green this time and I can't see anything there. Then, after I saved the heightmap and i close the window the CK crashes. I saw it happens also with already created heightmaps of the game. Any idea? (Sorry for my bad english)
Daniele Boldrini Those sound like some pretty crazy problems! I am no CK expert so I am afraid I don't have any pointers for you. I think if my CK was doing that to me all the time and I had tried all the normal restart the computer kind of fixes then I would uninstall and reinstall and see if that cleans things up.
WoW Guidery The reason is you have to COC to the "cell" name not the "world" name. When you create a new world like I show in this video and then select your world from the cell view window there is only one cell called "wilderness". Then when you select that cell you get a whole bunch of cells and you see them in the view window. You have to give the cell you are working on a name and that is what you use to COC. So your formula would look like this: "coc (mycellname)"
Lol you misunderstand me, i already have a super idea, a just dont know why the map still have the sane tamriel sky and terrain instead of sovngarde when i choose it
The fastest way to figure out how to set up a map to look like Sovngarde is to look at the settings for Sovngarde itself. When you open the wordspaces like I show in the video there is two options, one is climate, and the other is water. If you set your climate to the Sovngard climate you will be good to go.
Thank you John Ford! I actually have never used L3DT before. I have heard of it and almost looked into working with it but never got the chance. However I did a little looking around and a post at the link bellow seems to shed good light on the subject. Look at the 8th post down by Maegfaer. www.bundysoft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=514
Hey Luca, your computer taking to long is most likely a problem with your computer. If you don't have enough available ram or your processor is an older one that will greatly affect the creation kit.
i don't know if anyone will ever see this comment but every video i've seen... NO ONE TALKS ABOUT EXPANDING THE WORLD. your world is square and gets cut off. you can't landscape edit any more because there's no more terrain. and i've seen NO videos explaining how to make more terrain to edit. tons of open world mods out as of 2018 yet no one has ever talked about this. massive dafuq man...
Maybe it's useful (and not to late) but I got it from various sources, that the map expands automatic. Set the "Render window load cells allowed" option checked and you expand the world, as you pan around. Save, when it's big enough and best reload ck. There's only two things to consider. First there is a certain size, that cannot be exceeded. Was 64x64 cells, if I remember right. This lies within CK's programming. Second you cannot "link" the borders together like in RPGMaker, if that is, what you meant. Sooner or later there will be a border. That's anything, I know so far. Hope this helps.
Bless this video! It saved me a million hours of effort. I thought for the longest of time I couldnt do this, but with your help you made it possible! Thanks!
You are very welcome M. I am glad my video has helped you!
Thank you for making this. It is the most relevant and helpful video on this topic that I have found.

your tutorials are AMAZING! I really learned a lot an I wish you could make so more
Thank you mselibrown1, I do wish I had more time to tinker around with the creation kit too. But life has caught up with me and I have run out of time between work and taking care of a family! Best of luck to you as you create new worlds!
Well in that case I wish you nothing but the best to you and your family :)

the 'm' key map is rendered. if you view during a dragon battle, sometime you can see the dragon. ;)
Is there any possible way that you know of to increase the poly count of the base landscape mesh?

Fantastic tutorial.
Whenever I do those cancels like you recommend, It fails to find the landscape data once I load those cells.

must be doing somthing wrong but on hight map editor i dont get two boxs just one and when i use grid i have hundreds of lines ?
Creation kit always crashes on heightmap save/close. always no matter what. whats the workaround for this?
Create the map in an interior cell, not the world space
I was wondering, what does the ' small world ' tick box do? Would I have to untick it when I want to make a massive world?
Bandit Brethren To be honest I don't really know. I tried ticking it on once and the world didn't seem to be restricted in size at all. My guess would be that it is more of a category thing. Like when you make a bunch of "small worlds" they will be grouped together in the world pick list? But again just my guess.
Ah okay, that would make sense so to speak, Thanks for the reply.
Hello how good are you at creating Height map World spaces. and would you be willing to Sketch out a world space for me
Hi man, Iam trying to make an island in skyrim for like a couple weeks now. When i open the new worldspace i get water indeed as here, but there is no land underneath it ? Thank you for the video. it is really hard to understand you (in case I am german even harder). Are you also working on Fallout 4 or just Skyrim?
I think there's something wrong with mine: when I open the heightmap for the first time the window is all green and there's no cursor. Ok, will try that. Thanks!
what does checking the small world option do?
To be honest I didn't see any difference if it was checked on/off.
How come when I type "coc (myworld'sname) " it doesn't take me to my world? Will you please help? Thank you so much, love your videos! :]
WoW Guidery The reason is you have to COC to the "cell" name not the "world" name. David Wood Thank you so much! :)
I can't figure out how to make this map look like Sovngarde, it is just tamriel-like
why dont you open up sovngarde and explore tehre a little see what the devs have done and see if you can get any ideas
:)

Oh yeah thanks, i'll check it out!
the problem is that i have solved it, but when i open the map, i see that the world is much small then before, can't even reach the size of a city...
I cant save D:

When i am saving the height map editing computer take too time, like infinite

8 giga
David Wood I'm having the same issue also on 8GB of RAM. Guess I'll wait and see if it finally renders :)
is a bug.
