The car is GREAT for old farts like me who want not to pay a lot of money for crap. I turn the radio to the PBS channel and leave it, and don't have to deal with distracting nonsense like flashing lights telling me how far I am behind a car (if you need such lights you have no sense of distance and shouldn't be driving!), Perfect for people using a car to get somewhere, not as an entertainment/distraction device. Don't pay for what you don't need.
I have to disagree, I have a blast driving my hrv up and down Bouquet Canyon road all day. Excellent Canyon road handling. I drove a crv and hated the bulky ride.
There's a lot to like about the 2018 HR-V and a few things not to like. With the base trim you can actually get real radio preset buttons and volume/tuning knobs. A big plus IMO since you don't have to take your eyes off the road. The rear-view camera has a wide-angle so I can see up and down the street and sidewalk on both sides when backing out of my driveway, which is quite helpful, since we live near a playground. Visibility is good out the windows. The cargo area has plenty of space. The HR-V corners well and it drives smoothly and with pep on the highway but it can be jolty on roads with imperfect surfaces and it is downright spine-jarring with potholes. The seats on the base trim have decent lumbar support but the bottom cushion after 15K miles under my keister feels like a cheap sofa in a frat house. The CVT makes a loud sound like a giant kazoo at the end of an acceleration. You cannot remove mist or a wintry mix from driver's side or passenger-side windows by a down-up motion of the window, a serious safety defect, IMO. Honda needs to redesign that flexible rubber seal so it makes contact with the glass.

I would go Kona in this segment, 175hp Turbo w DCT, Apple carplay/android auto, electric seats, leather, premium audio, etc. It offers everything the HRV does not. I've considered the HRV until the competition introduced a better option (IMO).
We came close to buying either the HRV or Subaru Crosstrek, but got a mid-trim CRV AWD instead because it was roughly the same price as the upper-trims of the other two. It was also far roomier and comfortable, equal or better overall tech, more powerful/better performance, yet got the same MPGs as the other two.
Consumers need to be more critical so products like this don't get produced. Test drove one and it did ok on roads up to 45mph; merging/entering the hwy (65-70mph) was a scary endeavor and the HRV was not happy plus it was loud and didn't inspire confidence...the cloth on the LX demo felt rough, scratchy, and the seats were hard...overall not a place I wanted to be for very long...I think a base forester is a better option but we ended up in a cpo cx5 awd...the HRV engine and cvt are big let downs

Huge China recall on the 1.5T engine about 6 months ago about 500, 000 CRV's . Honda has DONE NOTHING in North America with same issue !!! Gas in Oil is huge issue . Engines will fail after warrantee period , prematurely , after warrantee . CAN be safety issue , as well .

But they really seem to be disconnected from their customers at times. - Did customers really want volume and tuning knobs removed from the console ? Answer is .... No. - And neither do I believe that customers want the humungus center console on the Pilot, so tall and wide that you can't move your right leg, especially annoying on a long drive. (not, they seem to be doing this to simpliffy USA and international versions where the the steering column moves between the driver and passenger sides) When cost savings such as these are prioritized over what consumers truly want it hurts their brand, hurts consumers and in the end, they'll change the design back to address the issue(s).

2018 Honda HR-V does not have a roof rack. Worse, it has no mounting points like Mazda3. Hey, Honda, what do you think people buy SUVs for? A trailer hitch would be nice too. It does have a couple of "features" that makes one's life difficult. What do you think should happen when one mistakenly tries to start a car with a key from a different Honda? Honda HR-V immobilizes the car. It cost me $400 + plus Uber fees to have Westboro Honda fix the problem. Then there is an involuntary wheel lock. From now on no more Honda's for me. I will stick with Toyota's instead.

All lower Range model BMWs and Mercedes products have halogens.
Hoping 2019 brings a little refreshing for the HRV, but even back in 2016 seem dated to me.
