Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 22 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

100% recommend the long way to a small angry planet by becky chambers if you're looking to get into sci-fi. it focuses a lot more on the characters than on the plot and since you prefer characters over plot, it could be a good choice to dip your toes in the sci-fi world! it's really wholesome and lovely overall.
the left hand of darkness by ursula k. le guin is another one of my favourites and it's a classic, it's not heavy hard sci-fi either and focuses a lot on characters and the politics of the planet the main character is discovering. she was quite ahead of her time imo.
and a funny recommendation would be the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy by douglas adams. really easy and quick read and funny as well! a lot of people start there when they wanna get into sci-fi :)

Best reading vlogs around. I actually love Russian lit, a number of years ago I had fallen out of reading and decided to jump start myself, so i dove into the most intimidating thing I could think of and read War and Peace, and ended up loving it. Crime and Punishment is great.

    Always a pleasure.
Honestly, there are so many genres of sci-fi (classics, cyberpunk, time travel, post apocolyptic, AI, space opera, utopian ... I'll stop there & suggest 1 title for each) So in the same order : The Female Man by Joanna Russ. The Diamond Age: Or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer by Neal Stephenson. After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall by Nancy Kress. The Mercy Journals by Claudia Casper. All Systems Red by Martha Wells. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. A Calculated Life by Anne Charnock ...

I have a easy-to-get-into Sci-Fi recommendation for you!! Lilith's Brood by Octavia Butler. Okay, let me be honest and say that, it is actually a trilogy. But, I didn't know this and read a version on my e-reader that had the three books combined as one. So, it felt like one long book. Unlike most Sci-Fi it doesn't have super complicated backstories to remember nor dozens & dozens of characters with confusing names. Octavia Butler is such an amazing writer that I was grabbed by the story and it wouldn't let go.

Hello! I have a sci-fi rec for you, though it's a big series and each book is very thick, it's a fast-paced epic sci-fi and also modern which means it's easy to read. It's called The Expanse series (which is now a show too) and the first book is called Leviathan's Wake by James S.A. Corey. I would also suggest The Murderbot Series by Martha Wells which is so great and short as well.

Hello Leonie. Congrats on beating your worst enemies: XXL books. I would have started from the beginning as wanting to enjoy the book to his fullest, sunk deep on the context. But that's me! For standalone fantasy I would recommend Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, besides Al-Rassan from Guy Gavriel Kay. Being the first fantasy, fresh and quickly read. the second more history fiction and a "fine art book", rich prose and emotional connection, great characters.

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov is a collection of connected short stories that were published separately at first. Sometimes it is grouped with other short stories that comprise Asimov's entire Robot Series or parts of it. I, Robot as collected and published in 1950 begins with a a short intro followed by 9 short stories. So, it could be the one you saw in English does no have as many short stories in it as the one in Dutch. Hope this helps.

For a sci-fi recommendation, I recently read Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. I haven't read any sci-fi for a few years and it was a great jumping off point for getting back into the genre.

I don't really know if your parents keep cats inside or if you plan to, but I've been told not to keep the salt lamp in the same room(s) as the cat(s), because it is toxic for them. I thought you might like to know ^.^

I just spent a good 10 minutes searching Hütton Käse to find out what it is, and then reading the fascinating information about it on Amazon. It was translated into English for me, so that might explain some of what sounded strange to me. But that was a rather interesting side quest for me tonight. 😊

I would be very interested in what you think of Crime and Punishment. It was assigned reading for me in high school and it's the only assigned book that I ever seriously hated (which is saying something about me lol). The protagonist was just this whiny, woe-is-me type who couldn't make a darn decision and stick to it, he kept changing his mind and going back and forth between the same options. I was super annoyed and bored reading that book xD But I also know that most people love it, at least where I live, it's one of the most popular classics.

A couple good sci fi goods.
Enders game series. Most only read Enders game. There are 4 main books in the series, Enders game, speaker for the dead, xenocide, children of the mind. If you enjoy those there are so many side books and spin offs, I would start with earth unaware.
Children of men and I am legend are also pretty good. The Martian is great. If you want to really dive into sci fi then Seven Eves is really enjoyable, but very long. I think the audible book was 40ish hours long.
