Twenty years ago, I left Lindesnes one February morning and began walking northwards. In mid-September, I arrived at Nordkapp, having skied and walked the whole way. One of the great adventures of my life
As a norwegian i think that the true beauty of Norways nature begins to show in the middle and northern parts of Norway. Thanks again for another great video! I let out a loud “AMEN” when you said “there’s nothing like travelling with your little home with you everywhere you go” (or words close to that 😉). We went on a 6 week trip this past summer, didn’t want to come home it was so great. We are semi-retired and needed to return to work. It won’t be long :) In the meantime I’m living vicariously through you :)
The tinned fiskeballen (fish balls) are gorgeous, my Norwegian friends make a white sauce up using the liquid in the tin and add sliced potatoes too it - it's very moreish! Another fishy treat that's great if you're on the go are the vacuum sealed fiskekakker (fish cakes) we'd often rip the plastic open and eat them straight out of the pack but heated in a pan they are amazing with some good crusty bread. Lovely!! 🙂🙂🙂
@@LifeistooshortCK maybe if you go back. 🙂 I was addicted to the fish cakes in particular - so much so a Norwegian friend visiting me last month brought some with her in her suitcase!! 😄💕
@@LifeistooshortCK If you go back and decide to try the fiskeboller, you should make a white sauce of the liquid in the tin and milk. The best way is to melt butter, add some curry in the butter and flour to thicken it. Then you pour in the liquid and milk, let it simmer before you add salt, pepper and the fishballs. Serve with boiled potatoes and carrots. While fiskekaker/fish cakes is great with some crusty bread, for dinner I always eat them with HP Sauce, as well as grated carrots with vinaigrette and boiled potatoes.

Thanks for your videos. I enjoy listening to you both and the content you put in them. I live in Tasmania a Southern state island of Australia and what you have shown is very different from where I live. I have just had 2 months off work sick so I decided to go back to the beginning of your videos. Now I am getting better I have caught up to this video. Some if the oldest buildings in Tasmania are at the penal settlement - build started in 1833. Its hard to imagine older. Lots what you show is different, small lanes, animals, towns shops, pre-made foods, paying for parking even away from built up areas, and we dont have castles. Having said all that we do have buildings and furniture with English heritage. Thanks. Keeping doing what you do well.
We have not been to Tasmania yet. Thanks for watching the back catalog. Good to hear you are on the mend. We wish you a speedy recovery and a great 2023 👍
your travels are so funny to me. first you landed in the city i live. then you went to a museum right outside my house. and now you are at the place i went to school.
Another great explorational trip, thanks to you both. Sometimes in urban/city areas in New Zealand, you can park/sleep overnight in carparks attached to businesses like supermarkets, but it requires you talk to their Security or Store Management for permission (usually given) but requires that you are fully legally self-contained (your own toilet), and usually required you begone when store opens first thing. It can be helpful in emergency situations, but would not make a regular habit of it. Good luck and stay safe. Kia Ora. 💜💜
Not sure our van would comply with the regulations in NZ as we don’t have a fixed toilet. We can generally get by and end up finding a spot somewhere ☺️ Thanks for watching and commenting. Greetings to New Zealand 🇳🇿
@@LifeistooshortCK Thanks to you both. Although NZ has a very small population and is 6th larger land area than the UK, the current legislation/rules for 'Certified Self Contained' (CSC) are set to become law in July 2023 [I would expect in time, similar rules may appear in other countries]. "Under the proposed changes, 'people' (rule actually says 'members', referring to NZMCA) who own vehicles without fixed toilets will be unable to freedom (like 'wild camping' elsewhere) camp on public land which is restricted to certified self-contained vehicles only (vehicles with fixed permanent toilets)." The only alternative choice will be Camping Grounds (govt & private) where you pay fees. I believe there may be a 2-year stand down period, allowing people to change their 'toilet' from portaloo type to a built-in one. The world we live in...!! 💜💜 Happy travels. Kia Ora.
As I get older I get less tolerant of people telling me what I can and cannot do. The eco zealots are getting out of order. The people who do what we do are the least likely to cause a mess in my experience. 👍
Hi guys. Lovely video. Some of the rock features and scenery bare stunning. Hot dogs are delish. We should definitely do those ourselves next year, and the spag bol looked yum too. Thanks for sharing x
Wow heated toilets that's good. This cold weather is playing havoc with my arthritis. A mug of tea or coffee and a cinnamon swirl warmed would be great. A cabin in the trees sounds idyllic. A slide like the helter skelter would have been good for coming down from the top of the lighthouse. XX ❤️💙
That was lovely Ken and Carol, really enjoyed. I think I’m the same age as you Ken 😳👍 so I’m not excepting myself from visiting on my own. But it’s great to “experience” this tour through you two. Well done 😊 and thank you. X
The journey through the lighthouse looked very clostrophobic and echoes loudly to add to the experience. Thank you both for visiting a place like that, so that I didn't have to 👍
I had wanted to mention it sooner, but I love to fly to the spot you're visiting with What 3 Words. It truly makes your adventures an interactive experience. Thanks for that much-appreciated addition. Cheers!
The view from the lighthouse was lovely 😊. Very considerate of you to wait until other drivers have passed by. Looking forward to the next video. Have a good weekend 👋
Absolutely love Norway, impressed that your post it note seems to stay in place. We used to do that and I got quite good and converting km’s to miles but I’m lazy now as our van can switch displays. I prefer kilometres when going somewhere as although the numbers are bigger they go down quicker and we seem to arrive sooner. Funny how the brain works sometimes! Great series, keep up the good work.
You should have got a tin of Lapskaus which is the dish us scousers are named after because we had a lot of Norwegian visitors in Liverpool at one time.
Hopefully you'll explore north one day, that's where the immense wildness of Norway reveals itself, the beauty is so unique! Understandable not wanting to go too late, especially in a car that can't handle sudden snowstorms, take care!
Thank you so much for sharing this nice video, the lighthouse part was so very interesting as well as the drive along such narrow roads with so much to see on each side!!! That part reminded me of areas in the south Chilean coastline, the only big difference that in south Chile there are really no good roads, in fact most traffic come into Argentina half way down and continue down to just before crossing into Tierra del Fuego where the only ferry leaves from the Chilean port, hence Argentines must go into Chile to as to get across !!!!! Keep safe....
Loved you video, thank you. If you ever come back to Norway, you can camp outside our book shop, at Odderøya in Kristiansand (plenty of bins in the area)
Excellent video, absolutely stunning scenery and Norway looks so beautiful. Love your videos, they are so comforting and enjoyable with a mix of scenery, your wee red van and your (Carol's) amazing cooking skills in such a confined space. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. Sending best wishes from Central Scotland.
3:35 Because labour is so expensive and because we're trying to avoid waste there's usually schemes of some kind or other where you can get a discount or free products (or even in some cases be payed the value of the product) if it's out of date.
@@LifeistooshortCK That also applies to products close to being out of date. It varies from chain to chain though. But yeah, products being past the best before date isn't that uncommon, although products being there after the last use date is illegal to charge money for/sell. If you look at the milk boxes (and other products) you'll see that they're stamped with "best før but still good after (some date)" Or something along those lines. Basically what that means is "best before, but still good after (date)" There's been talk about *banning* throwing away eatable food. I'm not sure if that has passed through the parliament yet or not, but it's definitely been a part of the political debate with major parties arguing in favor of such a ban. This was before Corona though, obviously it's not as big news as all the issues with Corona and Ukraine etc...
15:09: "I do not know what these little cubby holes are for" That's the foundation of the old lighthouse. The holes are the air-intake for the firepit (15:07) was on top of the foundation. The top of the lighthouse was made of wood, so the only thing left is the foundation and the firepit.
Great video guys ….. looks like sone big rigs parked up at the end. The roads looked pretty deserted. And crisps are devils food as I am always on the look out for them in the cupboards Thanks for sharing

Thanks I was bored and this one came just in time :) watching these makes me want to travel more in this country of mine. Norwegian canned food is horrible, only edible one (barely) is the spaghetti ala capri.
If you are craving for pea soup, but don't mind the work of making it, you can make a bag of Toro Betasuppe or Ertesuppe and add a can of Erter, kjøtt og flesk (peas, meat and pork) from the same brand as Sodd and Lapskaus. It is much better than Spaghetti ala Capri, which is crap.
Hi guys 100% on the comment to buying a camper or Motorhome. There’s nothing like going away on a Friday and coming home on a Sunday if your a busy person Feels like you have had a decent break and seen loads
Absolutely agree. We used to keep our caravan on a seasonal pitch when we were both working so we could get away on a Friday for 2 nights. It always felt like we had been on holiday 😊
Great Vlog Carol & Ken. Beautiful over there along the south coast. It gets really nice up along the east coast. Wise decision not to go too far north at this time of year. You never know when the snow can hit. Gee the wind coming off the sea was brutal.
I think you mean the west coast :) The east coast is just the same as the south. The fjords and dramatic nature is on the west side of Norway. (and ofc in the north)
You should try the classic Norwegian way to have hot dogs (pølse) in lompe with crispy onions and shrimp salad (rekkesalat), ketchup/mustard optional. Sold at every gas station in the country and a staple for anyone traveling.
The sausages you had for lunch at the lighthouse, are called grillpøllse. Grill mean grilled, so they do taste a bit better when fried on a pan with some butter :)
When I was young, I went for a roadtrip up to Nordkapp in Norway. I slept in the wan and the plan was to go to the toaletts on petrolstations. At the first place I asked to loan the toalett, -they said that it was only for the staff. However, when you must you must. So I went into the woods and did my thing and covered it with a stone. On my way back I fell into what an other man had left. My shoulder was cowered in shit so I ditched my jacket. Further north the distance between petrolstations got longeer, so I ended up doing my thing in the woods, or between boulders and cover it. But others had often been there before me, and they had not covered it, and papers was hanging in the bushes. When my wife and I retired we bought a camperwan with toilett and shover and so one. Not much bigger than yours, 5,99 m long.
@@LifeistooshortCK From mid Norway and north there is an emptystation almost evrywhere where people live. and emptying is for free almost everyvhere. Buth often you have to ask people where it is as there is no information tablets.
Me in the last video though you aught to drive to 0:26 For some years ago I freaked out while sitting in the passenger seat. I did not know they had straightened up the road. I thought we driving straight into the lake...
You have to pay for doctor and hospital appointment - 250 - 375nok per appointment, and also pay for medisin, up to you reach 2900Nok ish. After that all is payed by the state.
15:24: You did not find the photo expedition, the room with the photos is larger than the empty room you went inn. The path you were on goes on back to the stairs you came up.
Such a nice and charming British couple. Good call on letting the locals pass, we observe our speed limits pretty religiously here in residential areas and near schools etc, not so much on the long roads when just getting from point A to point B. But most of us do our best to be considerate of tourists in their vans/motor homes even then :)
Hi Ken & Carol This is off subject but, I thought you when I just viewed Wills Van Adventures - Condensation in your van. Thought it maybe of interest to you
Another great video guys ,lovely as always ,thank you , seems to be a great health service there,,not like here. Best wishes from south east Ireland as always
its a bit of a mixed bag, in the past 15 years some geniuses decided that we should run the health service like if it was 6000 different small companies which should all make a profit. Result: massive reduction in beds, massive increase in administration, worse service specially for conditions that are "unprofitable" to treat. Compensation rewarded to the hospital/department for a given treatment doesn't always make any sense, eg birthcare gets under-compensated a lot compared to the costs, so the service have declined *a lot*. It's rather silly when one department at a hospital can't just go and loan a nurse from another department for 5 minutes if needed, but have to spend 30+ minutes filling out paperwork, writing up a bill afterwards etc.
@@LifeistooshortCK No idea why they thought that quadrupling the administration overhead would make it cheaper and better. :/ But not too surprising when they put people with a financial background in charge. Its telling that they started to replace the word "patients" and "treatment" with "products"
Our van is 5,99 m long, and we have 14 days toalett-capasity for 2 persons. There is 4 1800watts 220v outtakes driven by 2 huge Litiumbatteries. The greywatertank is isolated and oppvarmed. 85 cm parabol, and you name it. It is a propper home away from home. We can live in the van summer and winter. We even bring our cat, she is having her own toalett. We are not in good helth, buth we enjoy life and freedom after all. Why I mention toilett so often is the fakt that norwegians often have their own well, and often not so long from the road. an if they find someone doing their thing, well some are able to beat up the "working guy". I hav ran, so I know!
Welcome to "sørlandskysten" or in english "southern coast". We do have freedom of roaming, but you need to drive out from rural areas to get there. I beleive you do have the same opportunities in Scotland. Speed tickets can be a bit steep in Norway. Speed driving can get you a ticket up to 1000 pounds onwards, and your license withdrawn for 2-3 years.
@@LifeistooshortCK To roam for free, usually in Norway and Sweden, if you stay away from towns, there are lots of places to roam for free. Most parking slots from the road you can park for 24 hours. And if you drive into the mountains, you can stay for free for days. Most land in Scandinavia is owned by the government, not much private. We have a law you probably heard of - Freedom to roam. Which means you do have a right to camp or sleep over, pick berries and mushrooms for yourself. Only four countries in the world have this law. Finland, Sweden, Norway and Scotland.

We wish you a speedy recovery and a great 2023 👍
Another awesome adventure! I loved the little 4 legged follower !❤️
He was in danger of being kidnapped 😂
your travels are so funny to me. first you landed in the city i live. then you went to a museum right outside my house. and now you are at the place i went to school.
Are we stalking each other 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK maybe we are🤔
Another great explorational trip, thanks to you both.
@@LifeistooshortCK So TRUE, same here! Stay safe & well. 💜💜
Hi guys. Lovely video. Some of the rock features and scenery bare stunning. Hot dogs are delish. We should definitely do those ourselves next year, and the spag bol looked yum too. Thanks for sharing x
Thanks for watching 😀👍
Wow heated toilets that's good. This cold weather is playing havoc with my arthritis. A mug of tea or coffee and a cinnamon swirl warmed would be great. A cabin in the trees sounds idyllic. A slide like the helter skelter would have been good for coming down from the top of the lighthouse. XX ❤️💙
Those toilets were warmer than the van 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK omg really wow 😮 XX ❤️💙
That was lovely Ken and Carol, really enjoyed. I think I’m the same age as you Ken 😳👍 so I’m not excepting myself from visiting on my own. But it’s great to “experience” this tour through you two. Well done 😊 and thank you. X
❤️😁👍
The journey through the lighthouse looked very clostrophobic and echoes loudly to add to the experience. Thank you both for visiting a place like that, so that I didn't have to 👍
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching 🙂
Thos hot dogs went down with a beer I hope? Yummy. Must have slept well after that supper.
No drinking at lunchtime as we are driving ☺️ We did sleep well 🙂👍
I had wanted to mention it sooner, but I love to fly to the spot you're visiting with What 3 Words. It truly makes your adventures an interactive experience. Thanks for that much-appreciated addition. Cheers!
Thanks Denny 🙂👍
Nice relaxed trip again, thnx
Thanks 🙏
Lucky you didn't get blown away, looks freezing too..hats off to you both. X
The view from the lighthouse was lovely 😊. Very considerate of you to wait until other drivers have passed by. Looking forward to the next video. Have a good weekend 👋
You too Anita. Thanks for watching 🙂
Thank you for another interesting instalment. I think I am going to take your advice Ken and buy a campervan 😊
I wish we had 25 years ago. I wasted a lot of money on caravans, tow cars and campsites 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I’m hiring one in March to do the NC500 to test whether it’s as good as I imagine Then hopefully make it happen.
@@debbiegardner3804 good idea to hire one first. Have a great time 🙂
Absolutely love Norway, impressed that your post it note seems to stay in place.
Carol is like you Richard, prefers distances in kms as they count down much quicker than miles 😁👍
Your video randomly popped up on my home screen this morning. Have watched about 5 now, loving the Norway videos. Great Channel, TH-cam gold. Subbed 👍
Thanks for the sub. Glad you enjoy the videos 🙂👍
@@LifeistooshortCK it's great, interesting, laid-back and informative viewing, you both do a great job
You should have got a tin of Lapskaus which is the dish us scousers are named after because we had a lot of Norwegian visitors in Liverpool at one time.
Agreed 👍
Not only was Liz Truss' tenure as PM outlived by a lettuce, but your video series too 🤣
Thanks!
Thank you very much for the Superthanks Joy ❤️
Hopefully you'll explore north one day, that's where the immense wildness of Norway reveals itself, the beauty is so unique! Understandable not wanting to go too late, especially in a car that can't handle sudden snowstorms, take care!
Hopefully we will at some point earlier in the year. We have good tyres now but our van would be hopeless in Norwegian winter conditions 😁👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Those roads in Chile sound interesting. We would love to visit one day ☺️
Loved you video, thank you. If you ever come back to Norway, you can camp outside our book shop, at Odderøya in Kristiansand (plenty of bins in the area)
Kind offer thank you ❤️
Great video again. Great information and facts as always. Thanks.

Reminds me of Canada east coast Nova Scotia very similar to Peggy’s cove wooden buildings, excellent trip really enjoying well done both 👍🏴
Yes very similar 👍
Excellent video, absolutely stunning scenery and Norway looks so beautiful. Love your videos, they are so comforting and enjoyable with a mix of scenery, your wee red van and your (Carol's) amazing cooking skills in such a confined space. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. Sending best wishes from Central Scotland.

Because labour is so expensive and because we're trying to avoid waste there's usually schemes of some kind or other where you can get a discount or free products (or even in some cases be payed the value of the product) if it's out of date.
That’s interesting. Thanks for letting us know 🙂👍
@@LifeistooshortCK That also applies to products close to being out of date.
It varies from chain to chain though.
But yeah, products being past the best before date isn't that uncommon, although products being there after the last use date is illegal to charge money for/sell.
If you look at the milk boxes (and other products) you'll see that they're stamped with "best før but still good after (some date)"
Or something along those lines.
Basically what that means is "best before, but still good after (date)"
There's been talk about *banning* throwing away eatable food.
I'm not sure if that has passed through the parliament yet or not, but it's definitely been a part of the political debate with major parties arguing in favor of such a ban.
This was before Corona though, obviously it's not as big news as all the issues with Corona and Ukraine etc...
15:09: "I do not know what these little cubby holes are for"
That's the foundation of the old lighthouse. The holes are the air-intake for the firepit (15:07) was on top of the foundation. The top of the lighthouse was made of wood, so the only thing left is the foundation and the firepit.
Thanks for letting us know 🙂👍
Great Norway 🇳🇴 video Carol & Ken 💕 would love to visit there thanks to your video 🤗Love the L Truss insert 🤣🤣take care x

Great video guys ….. looks like sone big rigs parked up at the end. The roads looked pretty deserted.
And crisps are devils food as I am always on the look out for them in the cupboards

Crisps are currently banned until Christmas 😂

That little dog was certainly cute. We were very tempted 😊
Thanks I was bored and this one came just in time :) watching these makes me want to travel more in this country of mine. Norwegian canned food is horrible, only edible one (barely) is the spaghetti ala capri.
Thanks for watching. We will let you know what we thought of the Sodd in a later episode ☺️

Hi guys
100% on the comment to buying a camper or Motorhome.
There’s nothing like going away on a Friday and coming home on a Sunday if your a busy person
Feels like you have had a decent break and seen loads
Absolutely agree. We used to keep our caravan on a seasonal pitch when we were both working so we could get away on a Friday for 2 nights. It always felt like we had been on holiday 😊
My favourite pop group was from Norway! A-ha! X
can you teach that driving etiquette to other norwegians? Always stuck behind someone that refuses to pull over or keep the speed limit. great video !
@@peacefulminimalist2028 Yes of course.
You should try the classic Norwegian way to have hot dogs (pølse) in lompe with crispy onions and shrimp salad (rekkesalat), ketchup/mustard optional. Sold at every gas station in the country and a staple for anyone traveling.
We do and it didn’t go well as you will see when we reach Oslo 😁👍
The sausages you had for lunch at the lighthouse, are called grillpøllse. Grill mean grilled, so they do taste a bit better when fried on a pan with some butter :)
Thanks for the tip 👍❤️
lovely vid.
We bag and bin it when we have to but mostly use public toilets. We have a chemical loo but don’t use it as finding somewhere to empty it is harder 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK From mid Norway and north there is an emptystation almost evrywhere where people live. and emptying is for free almost everyvhere. Buth often you have to ask people where it is as there is no information tablets.
Most enjoyable... As always. 👍🏻
Thanks 🙏
Me in the last video though you aught to drive to 0:26
For some years ago I freaked out while sitting in the passenger seat. I did not know they had straightened up the road. I thought we driving straight into the lake...
😂😂😂 Glad you were OK 👍
You have to pay for doctor and hospital appointment - 250 - 375nok per appointment, and also pay for medisin, up to you reach 2900Nok ish. After that all is payed by the state.
Thanks for the figures 👍
15:24: You did not find the photo expedition, the room with the photos is larger than the empty room you went inn. The path you were on goes on back to the stairs you came up.
Such a nice and charming British couple. Good call on letting the locals pass, we observe our speed limits pretty religiously here in residential areas and near schools etc, not so much on the long roads when just getting from point A to point B.
But most of us do our best to be considerate of tourists in their vans/motor homes even then :)
Glad to hear it 🙂👍 Thanks for the lovely comment ❤️
I Have to agree with that!
Hi Ken & Carol
This is off subject but, I thought you when I just viewed Wills Van Adventures - Condensation in your van. Thought it maybe of interest to you
Hi thanks for the tip. We saw that. We have tried a Karcher but found using a cloth to be quicker and no storage or charging issue 👍
Loved the video
Thanks 🙏
Very interesting to hear what it is like in reality. In the UK our NHS is in crisis despite costing billions.
@@LifeistooshortCK No idea why they thought that quadrupling the administration overhead would make it cheaper and better. :/ But not too surprising when they put people with a financial background in charge. Its telling that they started to replace the word "patients" and "treatment" with "products"
Makes me shudder to hear that 👍
@@omfghai2u looks like heath system is bad all round
😁👍
Great trip 😁
Welcome to "sørlandskysten" or in english "southern coast". We do have freedom of roaming, but you need to drive out from rural areas to get there. I beleive you do have the same opportunities in Scotland. Speed tickets can be a bit steep in Norway. Speed driving can get you a ticket up to 1000 pounds onwards, and your license withdrawn for 2-3 years.
Ouch, that is a good deterrent 😳
@@LifeistooshortCK To roam for free, usually in Norway and Sweden, if you stay away from towns, there are lots of places to roam for free. Most parking slots from the road you can park for 24 hours. And if you drive into the mountains, you can stay for free for days. Most land in Scandinavia is owned by the government, not much private. We have a law you probably heard of - Freedom to roam. Which means you do have a right to camp or sleep over, pick berries and mushrooms for yourself. Only four countries in the world have this law. Finland, Sweden, Norway and Scotland.
