There's a child in you trying to raise a child in me
i always cry when I listen to this song. it speaks to me. how we all get older and then realize that our parents are actual people and had a history before us. Accepting the mistakes they made in your childhood and moving into the future with them. I’m 24 so it hits me hard right now because all I want to do is spend time with my mom and just get to know her while I still have her. Great song.
Makes me cry every time. An honest account of being raised by young parents trying to recreate a family they never had. It's never perfect x
What a beautiful comment. Cheers.
I pretended to need to use the restroom to get out of class so that I could listen to this.
Millie Kentner it's OK if you listened to this on the crapper. We're all friends here.
Matthew Aguirre Oh, I'm not denying that. I was absolutely on the toilet while listening to this.
did you, really ?
sounds like my dad. except that he pretended to buy cigarettes
hahahaha that's awesome
"You're all caught up inside... but you know the way..."
This may be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. And this video... thank you. 🌿
this song exposes me to much needed feelings of forgiving those that were just trying to do their best.
big thief blessed me with the gift of understanding-- thank you, so much.
at some point we will look back and try to say we all knew Adrianne Lenker as the genius she is
this literally makes my soul sink, hit the floor, propelled to the deepest depths.
Experiencing pain through her soul while being soothed by the very person that brought it to your attention. She has a gift. This should be the theme song for one of my favorite books. The Spiritual Advantages of a Painful Childhood. My obsession with her marriage of painful expression with persistent piercing rythyms is ridiculous.
I heard this song and saw this music video on MTV the other day, and it's been on my mind ever since. I didn't catch the name of the song or the artist, the only word i remembered was "beauty". I literally searched for "indie music video walking through forest" and finally found it. I'm so at peace right now.
I just make up with my best friend after over 1.5 year of silence between us and 3 minutes later found this song.. This song tastes like magic now! I'm so fucking happy!
Honestly you guys are so underrated honestly!! The thing I love about Big Thief is that I can feel the emotion in your music it is absolutely beautiful!! A Justin Vernon collaboration would change the world!
justin vernon is nowhere near their level lol
you have a mythological beauty
you have the eye of someone i have seen
outside of ordinary situations
even outside of dreams
you lie in bed at night and watch the lines of headlights through your screen
there is a child inside you who is trying
to raise the child in me
if you wanna leave
you just have to say
you're all caught up inside
but you know the way
you cut the flesh of your left thumb
using your boyfriend's knife
seventeen you took his come
and you gave birth to your first life
you gave andrew a family who
you thought could love and take better care
i have an older brother i don't know
he could be anywhere
if you wanna leave
you just have to say
you're all caught up inside
but you know the way
you're all caught up inside
but you know the way
rented a house in niswah, minnesota,
shrapnel, and oil cans, rhubarb in the yard
i built a ladder out of metal pieces
father was working hard
standing beneath the oak tree by the front door
you were inside baking bread
sister came out and put her arms around me
blood gushing from my head
you held me in the backseat with a dishrag
soaking up blood with your eye
I was just 5 and you were 27 praying don't let my baby die
if you wanna leave
you just have to say
you're all caught up inside
but you know the way
you're all caught up inside
but you know the way
so much more
to live your life
to walk the floor
to say goodnight
to leave your light on
do you leave you light on?
you're all caught up inside
but you know the way
You've got most of it right, but its cum not come, and it's rag not eye
A true gentleman presses the 'like' button at around 00:03, trusting in the qualities of this band.
totally agree! Just "found" this band today, and they do seem to be one of those "aaaaaah" in the first 3 seconds bands.
IANinALTONA that's exactly what I did 😆
IANinALTONA knows..listen to this guy.
this song is so beautiful and brings me to tears everytime i hear it- i don't know why. The music video perfectly captures the same mystical, beautiful, tear-jerking feeling as the song. Such good stuff.
That bass on the chorus 0:57 is 'to die for' gorgeous, swoon.
Beautiful track.
Demon Demon that's not base. That's a riff Adrianne plays on her guitar.
@@jclenker yes but ..bass part

this is the song.
