Klaus's scene was so powerful with this song. it was able to make me cry without knowing why he was. I could connect to him without knowing why he was suffering.... Just breathtaking.
It was that thousand yard stare.... A look like it was unbelievable to him. Like he still was just coming to terms with what just happened. And the fact he smashed the suitcase and screamed like that.... It was a roar like "why did I experience this for it to end up this way?? What was it all for?!?!?" To which he gets to the floor and starts scratching the road with bloody fingers as if he was in the midst of a mental breakdown... And I seriously do not blame him... I couldn't ever survive what he went through... And I'm NOT talking about the war he was in. I'm talking about the one he lost ... He watched his love leave this world in his very arms.... He couldn't do anything for them... Nothing but watch .... So helpless and hopeless... I am crying even as I type this out because I just wouldn't be able to get through another day if I lost my love like that.... Klaus is my favourite of the umbrella kids. I want the best for him...
This is the one and only line that I fancy I can improve. The absolutely beautiful poetry of this work is beyond praise. It exceeds The Beatles, Emmy The Great, Dylan, Cohen. Anyway this should read: "Your eyes were like a tapestry..."
I actually knew this song three years ago because a friend showed it to me. I'm also glad people liked it and that it's featured in such a great show like The Umbrella Academy.
Even worse, the first time you watch the show, it's clear that Klaus has gone through some rough times, but you're not quite sure WHAT. However, upon a rewatch, it's clear that Klaus is just after watching Dave bleed out in his arms MOMENTS ago. Add in that none of Klaus' family even noticed that he was kidnapped, and that he possibly wouldn't have returned to the present if Dave hadn't died... Klaus Hargreeves deserves ALL the hugs, and more!😭💕
the fact that klaus fought in an actual war. he watched his love die and his family still pegs him as a joke and a druggie. he’s not sober yeah but he’s been through so much it hurts that no one listens to him
everybody’ dad One of his biggest wishes was that his family no longer viewed him as a joke. However only until he loved someone more than he’d loved himself did anyone take him seriously.
It's because Klaus dealt with his trauma in a way that his family members disapproved of. They looked down on him for being a drug addict, not knowing how much being able to see the dead really affected Klaus. The only ones who seem to take him seriously are Ben, Diego, who looks after him, albeit grudgingly, and Allison, who seems concerned about the fact that he just got discharged from rehab in the first episode. Klaus Hargreeves definitely deserves better!
Right? First show I've wanted to recommend for soundtrack alone! (To be clear, A+ all around quality-wise, but generally soundtrack is just something in the background, and not something I necessarily like or dislike)

my poor baby klaus 💞 it is beyond me how anyone dislikes his character, there is so much more to him than "the junkie". he is traumatized and constantly tortured and the only thing he can do for some relief is what makes people dislike him.
Every time i hear this song, i remember Klaus crying on the bus. I remember his face and i just want to give him a hug. I love the soundtrack of both seasons, it gives me life and so much serotonin. I’m obsessed
The blood on Klaus' hands, the look on his face, and the queue of this song does show that he's lost someone very dear to him. This song always brings a tear to my eye.
Robert Sheehan gave us such a great performance for this short but so impactful and meaningful scene. We didn't need to see what his character had been through to understand and feel the emotions.
The lyrics are so psychedelic and beautiful❤️ “your eyes were like machinery your hands were making artifacts in the corners of my mind” something so shroomy about it
To the persons who created the soundtrack for the Umbrella Academy, you have my heartfelt thanks. Not only for introducing me to so many new bands but also to play them in scenes where they struck a chord. The songs alone made me laugh and cry. I am going to listen to this whole album.
When I enlisted and went through BMT, if i was ever homesick or feelin down, I would play this song in my head or whisper it to myself as a way to calm my nerves. 100% effectiveness
I honestly shit myself when this played in umbrella academy. I thought I accidentally turned my spotify on. Been my favorite song ever since the album came out
I came for the Klaus Scene, but after listening to this gorgeous song so many times I finally think I know the meaning of the song. It's talking about a mother and father dying of drug abuse. Like "The needle stopped the kicking' is defiantly talking about drugs being injected by needles to calm addictions. And "We overcome the sirens. . . And I know that someday I'll see you soon(Heaven), But now you're out of sight(dead), And you'll kiss me like you used to in the January night" is the parents dying. When you listen to again think about this, it makes more since and so much more depressing.
umbrella academy fully has one of the best soundtracks of any show i've watched and roberts acting is top tier, i've literally never felt so broken by a scene before
Fabulous, came here because Sam Fender (who I’d never heard of) was co-hosting Annie Mac’s Future Sounds show on Radio 1 last Tuesday that I just have on in the car if I’m off to a gig, and he played it as they were an influence on him whilst he made his album, the track melted me. Gorgeously spellbinding.

Klaus's scene was so powerful with this song. it was able to make me cry without knowing why he was. I could connect to him without knowing why he was suffering.... Just breathtaking.
Robert Sheehan is just an incredible, outstanding actor, that's why. I really, really love him
he's incredible
When he popped up in that army uniform and blood on his hands I knew then...
It was that thousand yard stare.... A look like it was unbelievable to him. Like he still was just coming to terms with what just happened. And the fact he smashed the suitcase and screamed like that.... It was a roar like "why did I experience this for it to end up this way?? What was it all for?!?!?" Yeah that's a powerful scene .... P.o.w.m.i.a😢
"Your eyes were like machinery. Your hands were making artifacts in the corner of my mind." These lines send shivers down my spine.
I love those lines too!!!

my boy Klaus Hargreeves needs a hug :(

Anyone who isn't here because of the umbrella academy but in love with this song and big thief since forever?
yes but im glad they reached a larger audience through that show because they deserve it
I actually knew this song three years ago because a friend showed it to me. I'm also glad people liked it and that it's featured in such a great show like The Umbrella Academy.
How very hipster of you
I have just discovered this song when Spotify recommended it to me, never watched umbrella academy though
Many artists get recognized because of branches. It all comes out in the wash. We are all blessed.
This song is so incredibly sad. When Klaus returned on the bus in a full soldier outfit I already knew I was gonna cry.
Madeline SAME DUDE SAME I SOBBED AND CRIED AGAIN AND REWATCHING THE SHOW I FUCKING LOST MY MIND
Even worse, the first time you watch the show, it's clear that Klaus has gone through some rough times, but you're not quite sure WHAT. Trina Q wait so he returned right after that Dave died. Wtf that’s so messed up, it makes that scene so much worse
@@christinetirimon4232 yea, his blood was still on his hands it's so fucking sad
Poor Klaus, he and Dave deserved better
franniefromvenice FacTS
franniefromvenice The war couldn’t have enough bodies, but why Dave’s.
All i need is for Klaus to somehow bring back Dave and he meets all of the academy and just ughhh these boys deserved so much better
Who is klaus???
Bryant G he’s a character from a show called the Umbrella Academy on Netflix, this song’s in the show
I’m not kidding the umbrella academy has some good playlist oof
well, of fucking course, it's a Series by the one and only Gerard Way...
True
Agreed
Loved both altered carbon and umbrella academy and I’m SO excited for both of them to have a 2nd season

the fact that klaus fought in an actual war. he watched his love die and his family still pegs him as a joke and a druggie. he’s not sober yeah but he’s been through so much it hurts that no one listens to him
everybody’ dad One of his biggest wishes was that his family no longer viewed him as a joke. However only until he loved someone more than he’d loved himself did anyone take him seriously.
let's all thank ben for being with him all the time 👬
To be fair to his family (and all families, for that matter), none of us really know what our siblings have gone through.
It's because Klaus dealt with his trauma in a way that his family members disapproved of. They looked down on him for being a drug addict, not knowing how much being able to see the dead really affected Klaus. The only ones who seem to take him seriously are Ben, Diego, who looks after him, albeit grudgingly, and Allison, who seems concerned about the fact that he just got discharged from rehab in the first episode. everybody’ dad I’m pretty sure Diego listened to him about this whole situation and tried to help
Umbrella Academy keep having me running back to TH-cam
Facts bro
Right? First show I've wanted to recommend for soundtrack alone!
(To be clear, A+ all around quality-wise, but generally soundtrack is just something in the background, and not something I necessarily like or dislike)
Kathy Garner agreed!! This show has one hell of a soundtrack. Every episode I keep Shazaming a song lol
Seriously such a good soundtrack whoever was in charge of it deserves recognition!
Same
this track is so delicate. you have to listen to it with headphones. beautifull
If you're here from Umbrella Academy, make sure you check out the rest of the Album and also the previous album Masterpiece. This band is so good.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I did honestly they're amazing
Yup. That's why I'm here
You killed the innocent translator
Yo wass up jefe 😂
Look at my name
Heard this in Umbrella Academy. Wow.
Me too, so beautiful
This definitely made me cry.
They're an awesome band.
Sameeeeeeee
me too, just heard the first 2 lines and I HAD TO pause and look this up. So beautiful!
“And my brain is like an orchestra playing on insane.” I felt that.
Like someone else could hear my brain.
Yup thank you umbrella for this kick ass song
Agreed
I lost it when i heard this 😭
Klaus really loved Dave ❤
This is one of the best songs of all time.
Hardly, but glad you enjoy it...
Lyrics
Burn up with the water
The floods are on the plains
The planets in a rose
Who knows what they contain?
And my brain is like an orchestra
Playing on, insane
Will you love me like you loved me in the January rain?
Mom and Dad and violins
Somber country silence
The needle stopped the kicking
The clothespins on the floor
And my heart is playing hide and seek
Wait and count to four
Will you love me like you loved me and I'll never ask for more
What did you tell me Mary
When you were there so sweet and very
Full of field and stars
You carried all of time
Oh and, heavens, when you looked at me
Your eyes were like machinery
Your hands were making artifacts in the corner of my mind
Monastery monochrome
Boom balloon machine and oh
Diamond rings and gutter bones
Marching up the mountain
With our aching planning
High and smiling
Cheap drink
Dark and violent
Full of butterflies
The violent tenderness
The sweetest silence
The clay you find is fortified
We felt unfocused fade the line
The sugar rush
The constant hush
The pushing of the water gush
The marching band
When April ran
May June bugs fly in
Push your gin Jacob
With the tired wiry brandy look
Here you go around Mary in your famous story book
We overcome the sirens
We look both left and right
And I can feel the numbness accompany my plight
And I know that someday soon I'll see you
But now you're out of sight
And you'll kiss me like you used to in the January night
What did you tell me Mary
When you were there so sweet and very
Full of field and stars
You carried all of time
Oh and, heavens, when you looked at me
Your eyes were like machinery
Your hands were making artifacts in the corner of my mind
Monastery monochrome
Boom balloon machine and oh
Diamond rings and gutter bones
Marching up some mountain
With our aching planning
High and smiling
Cheap drink
Dark and violent
Full of butterflies
The violent tenderness
The sweetest silence
The clay you find is fortified
We felt some focus fade the line
The sugar rush
The constant hush
The pushing of the water gush
The marching band
When April ran
May June bugs fly in
Push your gin Jacob
With the tired wiry brandy look

This song is addictive and takes me to another level. Thank you Adrianne Lenker, you are special. and Big Thief, of course.

i came here bc of klaus and umbrella academy. but this song is so much more than just that scene. i cry every time. i dont even know why.
This song makes me cry too :(
It's sad and happy and so many other things, the depth and beauty just envelop me.
Sounds straight from the soul.

This is the most heartbreaking, haunting, and beautiful song ever i stg
Don't mind me crying over my precious boy Klaus and this song in general 😭🖤
This song has an unimaginable power of making me cry every time

Elena W. He sold the shit out of that scene 😭💔
@@dearlydevoteddexter yeah i'm still not over it!

2 things i love most about the show, the soundtrack and klaus. nothing will ever change that.
I love people who here music in shows or movies and look them up! I just had to listen to this whole song
Play this my funeral thanks
Robert Sheehan’s performance was breathtaking, especially on this scene. The way Klaus screams at 1:12 is the saddest scene on the entire show.
I saw her sing this last night. It's an amazing thing to hear/watch.
Adrianne's voice is everything
Not just her voice, her cadence, She has a flow to her lyricism, it's like poetry.
Klaus hargreeves was so great when this song was playing
If I listen to this on a loop for the rest of my life, I might become an angel.
this is such a soothing song! Big Thief never fails to sooth my wounds...
Gotta love Klaus! Loved him since he was Nathan :)
I love Umbrella Academy & Misfits
Alli Arts both of them shows are AMAZING. Klaus is basically Nathan 😂😂😓
when Klaus suddenly came back, traumatised, dog tags.. and this song playing. Fuck that hit me hard. What an epic show
The umbrella academy opened my eyes up to some good as music
This song is so good. I listen to it a few times every day and it never stops surprising me.
When I enlisted and went through BMT, if i was ever homesick or feelin down, I would play this song in my head or whisper it to myself as a way to calm my nerves. 100% effectiveness
Lol singaporean spotted
This song is a masterpiece.
yes...its more commonly known as the battle hymn of the republic..its an old masterpiece...
This has a mythological beauty
huh? Sounds real to me.
Breathtaking
i see what you did there ;P
So true. Such a good comment ☺️
We all have a Klaus in our lives, look for them, give them a hug!!
Their songs remind me of a sentence in The Sound and The Fury by Faulkner:
"Caddy smelled like trees in the rain."
great connection, thank you!
I want this played at my funeral. It's so beautiful and sad sounding and somewhat mystical (and very easy to cry on)
I honestly shit myself when this played in umbrella academy. I thought I accidentally turned my spotify on. Been my favorite song ever since the album came out
oh god this is magnificent
i dont have words
heartbreakingly beautiful

Idk who Klaus is but this song is so angelic. I’m in love with it.
her voice makes me cry, i love this song
I hope I never forget this song
I didn't know this song was in a show, but I am so glad. It deserves so much recognition. It reminds me of my grandma, and makes my cry so much. ♥️
Reminds of the song from toy story 2 during Jessie's backstory. ALSO KLAUS ON THE BUS MY CHHIIIIIIIILLLLLLDDDD

This makes me pine for a soul I have not met yet. Magical.
I initially heard this from TUA but I keep coming back to it ever since. It's just such a good song

Dunno who klaus is. This song tho.....favourite new band by far. Still digging through their catalogue and being blown away.
Right?! Nothing else is good enough!
I love how you can hear her smile at 2:14
This song is so pure and beautiful, fit Klaus' s scene so well.
Also Klaus has really pretty eyes????
Just heard this on "The Umbrella Academy" (S01, E05 on Netflix). Wow. Her voice pierces my heart.
This and Exit Music (for a film) are beautifully made and fit perfect
Klaus is by far my favorite character, and such a beautiful song
I enjoy this soundscape and music that captivates the mind. It's nice to know that others like this.
"The only person I loved more than myself... " I FREAKIN' CRIED.
this is the saddest song i've ever heard, it's truly beautiful
Bro im here before this song blows up bc more and more ppl are watching the umbrella academy
My mama's name is Mary and this song always makes me think of her:')
Damn me this is good. Listening to this and reading the comments took me to the Umbrella Academy.
I cry to this song because it pains me to think about losing the person who you love
Such a powerful scene this song is paired with. I felt it all the way down and then some. And immediately found myself here.
I started to cry immediately when I heard this. This song walked into my room and punched me in the face.
I wish i could like this song more than once. Ugh. I love this music
One of my favourite groups for a reason. Brillance. Everything I want in sound.
Be odd to have a favourite group for no reason tbh
Umbrella Academy keeping this alive
This breaks my heart every time
My goodness Umbrella Academy! What a gem of a song!
