A good lion cut leaves the face and a "mane". We had a Persian who refused to allow brushing, so we got her in a lion cut every 4-6 months. She loved waking up to her fresh new 'do. She was a "shorthair cat trapped in a longhair's body". We knew when we brought her home as a baby that she would need LOTS of maintenance, but from the start, she was a screaming, spitting, biting hellion as soon as a brush touched her body, even when she had NO mats. So, it was just less stressful on us and her to get her a haircut a couple of times a year than to put her through the battle of the brush. Our other Persians and even shorter haired cats LOVE the comb and brush, but not her, no matter what. Just the sight of grooming tools sent her into a frenzy. Oh well, we do what we need to do to keep them happy and if a pretty lion cut made her feel good... then we felt good doing it for her. (Kepler Marie, 1992-2005)

We found out they would rarely have warm blankets, just thin dinky towels, or even disposables. The only reasoning was easier clean up. With the volume of procedures done it wasn't surprising. Matt the Cat was left fed, but ungroomed for nearly a year while I was in the hospital and in rehab after surgery. almost 7 months after I returned home Matt quit eating, he had previously coughed up some big hairballs, but now couldn't, & couldn't poop. He began panting and was miserable. I was scared when he sought out a secluded place to hide & was afraid he was dying. A trip to the ER Vet Clinic & some x-rays found stomach was empty but lower intestine & colon was filled with impacted hairballs.
An ovrnite stay with kitty enemas every 4 hours loosened up it all so it could be removed & saved his life. He's now at home, wearing the cone of shame and getting growled at by the 2 kitties he raised from tiny kittens.
I've already brushed enough from him to make another cat, but it looks like a short hair trim is what may be in his immediate future,.

Chip is a gorgeous cat & so mellow too. I can’t believe how good he was through the entire process. I was shocked when he removed what he found. I have had long haired cats & they really hate being brushed. I wondered how a cat could digest that hair. I will never forget this. I will be sure to buy products to aid in the digestion. My eldest cat passed away from old age. She was about 25 years old. She was a rescue with a tortoise color. She was full grown at 2 years old. She was a big cat. Not as big as Chip. She loved to get brushed but not so much as she got older. She loved her pillows. I wish Chip a very long life.

I have a Himalayan Persian and I shave her with a lion cut every summer for many reasons and she's so cute. I much prefer her shaved but do keep her coat longer in the winter for that warmth as she does like to go out for fresh air in the snow
