    Tim, this is a great channel. I have a curiosity. I lived somewhere in Europe where they speak English about as much as in Philippines, Malaysia, etc., but I focused for just 18 months and became totally fluent in the local language - to where I didn't speak English all day. It caused a transformation and I had tremendous success over 8 years, I was often the only foreign guy invited to social events with senior management. My wife was also American so we had to work hard to learn the language. More recently, I was working in Kuala Lumpur for about a year and I did not focus and only learned casual Malay (and in fact, more Tagalog and Bengali at the bars than Malay). Ultimately, a colleague who was fluent in Malay, also an expat, took over the work and the project. I see you asking your wife "What did they say?" and I'm left with some question marks. I know by experience that speaking the language of where you live is essential for being "at home" where you choose to live. Learning Tagalog would be so easy. Learning Chinese or Japanese would translate to regional relationships that might be tremendously satisfying, and these two are immediately in front of you. When I was fluent in a central European language, I noted a great number of colleagues with casual language capability that had boundaries every day in their experience that were simply lifted out of the way for me. I did a project in Tokyo where some caucasian Americans that were totally fluent in Japanese were clocking it, and I met a number of Filipino women who were totally fluent in Japanese as well. Could you do a video about Tagalog, language in general, your success/frustration with it, whether it is actually necessary, whether you think you will be fluent some day, etc?

    You would think that they would cover the wood from the rain. The carpenter that built my house kept a tarp on the wood and supplies all the time. I hope that the electrician is cheap for you guys. I just paid last Wednesday 7,000 pesos for 5 lights, a refrigerator outlet and 3 regular outlets installed. That's materials and labor. So it really wasn't that bad on cost. Take guys.

    Tim and Christin, If you are looking for property it has all been surveyed in 1983 by the PI government. Dependent on local cooperation and politics you can view
    the tax declaration at the baranguy tax office which is only good for getting the parcel number. The sq meters never add up to reality. Any licenced surveyor will
    have access to the CAD drawing of the province with all the parcel numbers and the accurate sq meters size. There is also a "technical description" which is the
    location of all the survey points of the parcel. The surveyor can get the name of the legal owner from the baranguy tax office and see if back taxes are owed and
    how much the amount. We have never been charged for any check by the surveyor who will include it if hired to do the physical survey. The survey includes sinking
    concrete markers with his initials cast into the top. Often there are already markers lost in the underbrush which are found during a resurvey of the technical description.
    The only person who can sell your wife the property is the one listed as owner on the tax declaration. If other people or relatives try to get involved or want paid
    just walk away.

    The secret for uninterrupted construction is build a scaffolding, columns and beams first to hold the trusses and finish the roof. When bad weather comes, heat or rain, you can continue your work inside. When the roof is built, you can just plumb the walls from the beams and erect the wall/partitions and floor.

    • @romeoETmike
      @romeoETmike 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      It's concrete hollow blocks (CHB) stuffed with concrete of class "B" or class "A" mix on the hollow centers reinforced with vertical bars and horizontal bar reinforcement. It will be covered with smooth or textured Cement Plaster (mix of cement and sand) later. Some people call them "rendering". By the way, the correct word they use is "Plaster, Plastering". Rendering is unheard of except putting depth on the drawing, exterior view, perspective view and that's what it is called in in the world of Architecture. CHB is not brick. It's how they do initial wall construction in he Philippines. It's not like in the US that the wall is considered finished after the stacking of the blocks. You may see some other unfinished walls like that in the country but there is the reason for that. They don't have enough funds to do the plastering or the funds are used in some construction inside the house and they just disregard the exterior finish.

    • @WrestlingPH
      @WrestlingPH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Its not a brick, its a "hollow block". Its much cheaper and stronger than overly expensive wood homes here in the US.
