    Nexus proves comics can be fun and clever at the same time. No movie/Disney hype required.

      Totally true! The fun factor is off the charts and the story is still so smartly told - an amazing combo. Pure comics.

    Nexus is at Rude Dude (a new campaign)... But its also with Mike Baron. They have divergent histories now, each taking the character their own way, independent of each other, but both are still publishing. Rude on his website, Mike on Indiegogo. In fact there was already one story published by Mike using Splatto Comics (Ya Boi Zack, the old 'Diversity & Comics' TH-camr) as well as one with Kelsey Shannon doing the art... So there is a bit more coming out in the next 12 months than we have tended to see for quite some time.

      The Baron/Shannon story is actually the first of a 3 part story, it will be republished and the remaining 2 parts published in the next year or two through Mike's own company, Bloody Red Baron I do believe.

    The comic shop I've been frequenting for 40 years has those first/comico fliers so that's how I got hooked on badger,nexus, grendel,and elementals and even Chris Claremont showed love for nexus(he tried to get rude on X-Men to no avail)also the hot artist(s) boom of the late 80's early 90's probably didn't help nexus's visibility.....

    • @ComicsRotYourBrain
      @ComicsRotYourBrain  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sounds like an awesome comic shop - I love that they’re still around! Btw, we also have an episode on GRENDEL thay you may want to check out (the Christine Spar version). And Steve Rude did finally draw the (original) X-Men, at least briefly in that Children of the Atom mini-series he did with Joe Casey (and Paul Smith!). Thanks so much for listening and commenting!

    Baron writings, which are complex and still accessible may have never gotten off the ground without the intricate yet open style of Rude.😊

    • @ComicsRotYourBrain
      @ComicsRotYourBrain  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that’s a very astute point! I agree that the “open” and clear style of Rude’s drawing no doubt made it easier for folks to take in Baron’s uncommonly layered, nuanced storylines.

    Dang, i wished i gotten into Nexus way back,when i was collecting consistently.
    I remember seeing it at the comic shop and i liked the covers art, but idk why i never started picking it up.
    I had tons of titles i was buying in the mid-late 80s, so i may have just not had enough extra money. Lol

    • @ComicsRotYourBrain
      @ComicsRotYourBrain  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, don’t blame yourself too much. The mid to late ‘80s blessed us with such an embarrassment of riches as comic book fans that it was nearly impossible to afford all of the great comics coming out - hence, the reason our show is focused on ‘80s comics! But seriously, it’s never too late to start reading NEXUS…

    Indie comics were out of my price range while I was in high school, and I could only gift myself a few issues here and there. But by the early 1990s and now in college, I felt DC, Marvel and Image had declined to such crap that I was exclusively reading either indie published or foreign graphic novels. It also meant I was now buying a lot of back issues of Comico, First, Kitchen Sink Press, and other from the '80s! I was fed up with mainstream comics, and not the world of graphic novels and art.

    • @ComicsRotYourBrain
      @ComicsRotYourBrain  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I had a very similar arc in terms of my comic book reading habits from the ‘90s and beyond. It was only in retrospect that I realized what an insane wealth of amazing comics came out of the ‘80s indie explosion… Hence, our show! 😊 Thanks so much for listening and commenting! Please stay tuned, and feel free to suggest some of your favorite ‘80s indie comics for us to cover! Lord knows there are SO MANY good ones…

    I think it’s because it has not been made readily available like a lot of other books you’ve mentioned, how long has Nexus been out of print it is not readily available in the zeitgeist of comic book readers mind or just readers mind, Bendis’s powers , Vaughn’s Saga, Wagners, Sandman mystery theater and his Mage, Robinson’s Starman & Golden Age, Mignola’s Hellboy, Willingham’s Fabel’s ,Starlin’s Dreadstar , Brubakers any thing, are all great stories on different levels and complexities.

    • @ComicsRotYourBrain
      @ComicsRotYourBrain  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Dark Horse has done several Nexus omnibuses over the last two decades (but not full-sized trades) so may be they are, to your point, not reprinted enough, and maybe they also don’t sell enough units at the LCS to be in stock.
      I only read Saga because I wanted something like Nexus. And Mike’s stories fascinating me more than Brian’s (but to each his own)
      We have a Dreadstar episode coming next season! Love that book so much! The two new Kickstarter volumes are fun too - Chris

    When speaking of other creator owned books that run a good length at the quality of Nexus..... I think a certain Aardvark is conspicuous in his absence from your list.

    • @ComicsRotYourBrain
      @ComicsRotYourBrain  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, CEREBUS is certainly the aardvark in the room when it comes to this particular conversation. However, I would not agree at all that CEREBUS maintained the consistent quality level of Baron & Rude’s NEXUS. Having said that, there is obviously a much larger and more troubling discussion that one could have regarding what happened to CEREBUS.
