Well shoot, thanks mister Scott. Plugging along the best I can. Hope all is going well for you? Appreciate the feedback on the still water content. It sure is relaxing.
Beautiful lake! That bridge is epic! Nice watching you do some catching! A float tube can really give me a sense of solitude and connection to a lake that is not possible otherwise. Thanks for sharing!
Howdy Ronnie! Hope the 4th was good to you? They couldn’t have built it any better. It looks good perched over those two canyon walls. Having the float tube has added a new layer and energy to chasing fish with a fly rod. Opens a lot of new doors. Have you ever been out on a foot tube? Thanks for taking the time to watch.
@@BeyondTheFly I do use a float tube, mostly late fall chasing rainbows and browns in South Park. I’ve found using a spinning rod is a lot more efficient for me in landing fish and changing depths in a tube as opposed to a fly rod.
@@Kjack2023 that great man. I can’t wait to hit a few spots this fall with the float tube. Especially when the colors change. That’s a good point with the depth. It’s a challenge and limited using a fly rod.
I hope you and your family are doing good. I love your channel it always gives me motivation to get out and catch some fish. Thanks for showing me your journey.
Hello Chase! Hey thanks for the comment and taking time to watch any video that strikes a chord for you. I try to keep them upbeat and informative. As I learn, my hope is, others are learning! Working on redoing some videos that will hopefully be out soon. Keep on fishing!!!! Keep being good out there.
Good show today, music sounded like it came from Vikings on HBO and we had some enthusiasm, philosophy plus life gratitude. All the makings of a future guide.
Thanks a milli Josh! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting to drop this song into a video. It’s so easy to nerd out on the Viking culture. Its jaw dropping some of the shows that have been created. Any future fishing plans? Thanks for taking the time to comment & watch. Have a great 4th of July 🇺🇸🎣❤️
Love the narrative that you bring to the video. Love fishing but haven’t been able to do it as much as I would like to. And your right getting out on that water is the best in the world. We finally had some rain during the past few days. Duck dynasty is a awesome show. I’m glad you’re doing better. Great catches as always. Being one with nature is a beautiful thing. I wish I could do more.
My New Mexico friend! I know your schedule and work life is crazy and has been for a long time. Hope you get even a 1/2 day to go play on the water. Seeing that rain fall in your neck of country is a fantastic thing. Thank you for the continued support. Looking forward to hearing about that moment you get to be on the water. Have a great 4th of July. 🇺🇸🎣❤️
Many thanks for checking out the video! I'm using about 12' from indicator to fly #1. I leave my floating line on for ease of jumping from lake to river. I needed about 15'-18' of tippet in this video to get into the cooler water. Still learning how to manage that kind of line/tippet for when you do get a take. Hope that helps?
How you liking that float tube? I was thinking about getting one? Costco had one noting ago and I almost picked it up. Nice video brotha! The cheese was great dry fly fishing on Monday. Those bows are fun on a 4 weight!
Dave! Hey man. I’m really enjoying the float tube. It opens up a new world of fly fishing. Different pace and your not fighting for space on the water. I think you would really enjoy it. Yes sir, tis the season to lace up dry flies. Makes my heart happy that you got back in the canyon. I agree 100% a 4 wt on this day would have been a kick. Have a great 4th 🇺🇸
First I hope you are recovering well? Yeah playing it safe is super important. The trail getting down to the Yampa river below Stagecoach dam isn’t crazy steep, well maintained with foot traffic. You can fish from the edge between the dam and canyon narrow. There are several sections along the south platte downstream from the town of Deckers all the way downstream past Twin Cedars. The river bottom isn’t really slicked from algae either. Nice sand bars you can stand in. The dream stream would be another good one has its fairly flat grass with easy banks to walk down. Most of these spots are packed with people. A weekday trip is best if there is any water flowing. Lastly there is a small section of St Vrain Creek in the town of Lyons. I think it’s hwy 36. Again check flows and any heavy rains. Let me know if that helps???? Heal quickly!!!
@@jacksonstroud2286 no worries! That flowing water will help in the recovery process. That’s what we are about here. Hope you can find a few fish to move. Keep in touch.
@@BeyondTheFly little update, i’m going fishing for my bday on friday and I told my mom about the place by stagecoach and I think we are going to try and run up there for the day, thanks again!
@@jacksonstroud2286 That sounds exciting. I don't want you to have a bummer birthday so double check steamboatflyfisher dot com. They will have updates if the tailwater and other rivers are open to fishing. You can call them too. I have looked at water flows but there has been many summers the flow is too low it will kill the fish. There are some great lakes around there that you can sling a dry fly (elk haired caddis or parachute adams) on and move some nice fish. Thanks for the update and hope you can find a place that is cooler and the fish are biting. Happy BIRTHDAY!!!!
Was looking for setup / technique advice for indicator fishing from a float r u be, I find handling the long leader and indicator challenging... Found your vid... Great vid, I love your vibe. But I'm curious if your setup. I think you aren't using an indicator. Are you just using a floating line, leader, to nymph and feeling the takes?
@@MapleGoodness great question and the setup is something you’ll have to work with. I do use floating line, an air lock indicator, Rio’s 7’, 1.5IPS, 12 lbs Versileader, about 24” of 2x tippet to my first weighted fly of choice, then 12” of 6x tippet from my point fly to the dropper fly of choice. Depending on the lake, time of year, and what is happening on the water I usually hand toss the flies in the water and get my kick on if I have to use the indicator, moving away from the flies while letting line out. Once I’m about 20’ away, I’ll stop kicking. I try to allow for the flies to reach 6’ to 7’ feet estimated before I do a very slow kick just so there is some movement to the flies. The most difficult part is the hook set, getting all the line tight quickly is a true challenge. I also don’t over tighten the air lock indicator, that way when your reeling in the air lock will move so you don’t get hosed with the fish being too far away from your netting reach and you can’t reel in any more line. If your only needing to be 3 to 4’ down you can do a single lob cast, no indicator, and then slow kick away to a comfortable distance with zero slack. You’ll feel the take. It’s a journey but wow it’s fun when you do get a fish on. I don’t know if any of this helps but thanks for watching!!!!
@@BeyondTheFly Thanks for the detailed reply. I have also done the "fling some line out and kick away from it" technique, nice to hear I'm not the only one. The indicator getting in the way of landing the fish is something I've pondered, and have used a quick release indicator instead of airlock, but I do like the airlocks... and hadn't thought of trying to use it without cinching it tight, so it can move. Great tip, thanks. We can't use dropper fly setups where I am (BC, Canada), so just s single fly for me. Another question, do you use, have you ever used, an anchor system on your tube? If so, any tips on a good setup? (By "good" I mean somewhat compact, not prone to getting all tangled up lol)
@@MapleGoodness happy to spitball any ideas with folks who are out on or in the water. Sounds like you’re heading in the right direction. As for the anchor system I have not used any thing. After many trips out with the float tube I was just starting to get a feel for positioning of my legs and to be relaxed enough to get some straight line casting done when the fish were hitting on top, without doing the quarter rotate, hahahah.
Justin, brotha! It’s been a sketchy journey until a month ago. Life is coming back once again. And you, you fantastic human, have helped to sparked that creative fire! Hold in there a tad longer. The gears are turning. Thank you for support Justin!
