Goodness, I've seen this video so many times and listening to it never fails to send shivers down my neck and around my arms - Jakob's crazy resolution from Bb->A, Rasmus' pretty, clean and soft third, Emanuel's solid, seemingly effortless hanger and Mr. Barber's booming bass to top it off; it feels as if barbershop ought only to be sung in such resonating, ringy and echo-ey places. Listening to barbershop the last few years, I've grown accustomed to high, convoluted, very-impressive tags (not to discredit their complexity as well as talent + hours of work it takes to perfect them), and having a ballad as gorgeous as things to revert to at different points in life, is comforting and always touches my heart. I daresay this may be one of the instances where the 'cover' outdoes the original - the barbershop rendition of this ballad is far more beautiful than the original in my opinion, huge thanks and credits to (do correct me if I'm wrong please) Mr. Wright for putting together an arrangement full of beauty. I'm so used to their voices performing the crazy high tag, it's almost jarring hearing them sing the original!
