Great video. 17:09 Brennerpass... The Brennerbasistunnel, longest underground railway connection in the world, will be finshed 2032 or so. They started building it 2008. Maybe you can do a video in the inaugural train😃
Nice! I see that both sleeper cars are still absent from the consist. I rode ES452/3 a couple of weeks ago and had to downgrade to a couchette both ways. Both cars have technical faults at the moment, not sure what exactly. There was only one on my Brussels - Prague leg, and none at all on the return. My ES452 had 14 cars, and the last four were empty and un-numbered for the whole trip. On the way out on ES453 I was in the third car behind the locomotive. Somewhere on the journey, they added four more cars in front of me and I woke up seventh from the loco! No idea where or why. A full dinner on the train would have been icing on the cake. Hopefully they can refurbish the rest of the train to the standard of the diner... and repair the sleepers. They are ancient though.
No sleeping cars (at least not this time), no fresh food, a long delay even before the actual departure, a broken light - but the VIP managers receiving fancy catering? It all seems sort of improvised, although the food looked ok. I am afraid this connection is not going to last for long 😢...
Well, they are kind of new, and sleeping trains hasn't been built new for ages, so they kinda have to buy old ones. Let's see if they try to improve these
They have 2 sleeping cars which run often but depends on demand and availability of it, European Sleeper doesn't own any of the rolling stock, all of it is leased from other operators (Wagon Service, Euro-Express, Train Rental Intl. Gmbh, etc.), they're the ones who decide whether they give their wagons to other operators. European Sleeper started last year and remember, It's all publicly funded. So therefore you can already expect that It's not on the NightJet quality (although NightJet is going for worse anyway, lol.).
3:22 - I bet most if not all sleeping cars are out for repairs. I had a return journey in their sleeping car few months back and it had various issues, including those little windows not closing, toilet issues etc. For the return part I got downgraded to couchette. Even got some money back, even though it's more expensive to get a private couchette. Not sure I've seen a sleeper car since. Few weeks ago I booked a seat in a seater car and ended up in couchette car anyway (without any covers or pillows). I don't remember seeing the silver sleeper car in the set that day either. In some ways they run an interesting operation, but, I find it useful so I hope it stays. I just wish they could get a new Nightjet set or something like that.
As a Start-Up, it is: first earn money, so we can invest. The coming of the Dining-car is proof of that investment. Renting cars is a better way to start than building new ones, hoping people will use your service. Most today's users are not that keen on dining or fancy bedding. A seat to sit is enough. And delays are part of the adventure. For a more direct trainride Praque - Berlin or Berlin - Amsterdam, there are altenatives with much more comfort and service. And therefore with a higher price.
The station board at Dresden 13:21 showed the correct route through the Netherlands: NOT via Amsterdam but via Utrecht - Breda - Roosendaal due to works on the Rotterdam - Roosendaal direct route. Strange that the car had problems as it has been refurbished not long before at the workshop of the Bentheimer Eisenbahn at Nordhorn. It used to be part of the Amsterdam - Berlin serivce by NS and DB, stopped in december 2023. In that train, there is nothing to by anymore. (they say, there is, but the trolley is often stored due to lack of personal)
*And due to works between Bad Bentheim and Deventer as well*. Otherwise, they could still run the 'normal' route via Bad Bentheim - Amersfoort - Utrecht as opposed to the current route (via Emmerich - Arnhem to Utrecht)
Every train only offers reheated food on board, you are too limited in size to design a kitchen in there (you cant make the wagons too wide) while still having space to seat diners and allowing people to walk to carriages on both sides. Also the logistics of keeping fresh ingredients on board are a nightmare. And generally you are limited in length as well due to platform size, so you only want to sacrifice one car for dining space and not two.
That looks like a very nice journey, dining car is very welcome from European Sleeper, hope it is a success, thanks Doc.
yes; i hope european sleeper will keep the dining car running;

Many thanks for sharing. 🤩
I missed the IC1 Dining Cars. So good TRI bought at least one and they are back on track :)

It would be great but there aren't WR cars available in 2024

yes, but its true; the vip guests have really received that more premium catering.
I have seen the European Sleeper three times, and I noticed that the sleeping car is missing, is there a reason why?
yes; dont book the sleeping car in the first place.

European Sleeper is very good in improvising - in contrast to the cancellation culture at ÖBB Nightjet
