Just speculating, without any knowledge or info. But I think such routes will be taken up by the new Talgo trains ICE L and the ones from the danish railway operator. As all lines (even from Berlin to Hamburg) are all only 230kmh or less. So you dont really need a 300+kmh train. Would have been nice if those lines would have been built for greater speeds, but the costs just rise exponencially
If DB won’t launch an ICE connection on that route the Czech railways are going to do so - they plan on running a direct connection from Prague via Berlin and Hamburg to Copenhagen once the tunnel is completed 🤯
@@stefan25769 which still wont be an ICE, there are plans by DSB and DB to run an ICE-L service (230km/h) on that route (and some speculation about running a DSB ICE-L type on Amsterdam-Copenhagen instead of to Hannover/Berlin)

I just had a ride on my first ICE 3neo (with hundreds of hours travel time on older ICE models) and I was definitely surprised how smooth they are even going 300 kph. More often then not I was convinced we were going 60 or something.
For a large part of my journey from Göttingen to Frankfurt last Sunday the ICE was indeed travelling at 60km/h. Sometimes we hit 159!! I am old enough to have travelled on steam-hauled expresses that were faster than this.
Great video....I like the German ICE trains a lot. Especially with a Eurail Global pass because no reservation fee is needed. I hung out a couple stations south of Nuremberg. The stations were Allersberg and Kinding. Some screamed by at 300 KM
So somebody travelling from let's say St Pancras to Brussels on an Interrail pass wouldn't need to pay for a reservation fee to Germany onwards from Brussels to Germany on ICE 😲😲?
@kieranpower97 I didn't have to pay a reservation fee from Cologne to Brussels and back on ICE with my Eurail Global pass. Unless the conductor each way cut me a break or I got lucky. Didn't need a reservation on Cologne to Amsterdam either. But I know you have to pay a reservation fee on ICE to Paris.

I've travelled the Bruxelles - Cologne Route many times. Since the 3-Neo got Introduced I've never been late with this one and the journeys have all been amazing!
Good review, thanks. Having suffered with the older units' unreliability, I look forward to giving these a go. I thoroughly recommend Train world in Brussels. Very different from York, but quite stunning in its own way.
Thank you for this excellent video. I agree the ICE3neo is a wonderful train, and I have travelled on them several times between Koln and Frankfurt Airport. The quality of finish is superb, and I always enjoy the at seat service in 1st Class. If only the UKs IETs were built and finished like the ICEs !
Went on this today from Brussels. Nearly an hour late, missed my connection at Frankfurt, wound up two hours late at my destination. DB are a mess. Interior was nice but didn’t seem any different from other ICE’s I’ve been on
11:30 Yea, it was clear the architect came from a warmer climate. The station in Liege is just a giant wind tunnel, which is fine and somewhat refreshing in summer, but freezing cold at any other time of the year.
This route is so nostagic for me. I remember when I was a child and we drove the A6 by car to my grandparents, while the Cologne-Frankfurt high speed track was under construction right next to it. Years later, I took the route from Brussel's Gare du Nord to Frankfurt Flughafen multiple times. One time (Deutsche Bahn was generally quite reliable at that time otherwise) I got stuck in a complete railway chaos and had to take a replacement train via the Ardeen mountens only to wait at every single one of the train stations mentioned in this video for another train to continue.
I have only been on an ICE 3NEO internally in Germany but have a fund of tales about the old ICE 3M service My partner is disabled so reliability is even more important as we have to book assistance at stations and missed connections are a nightmare.
I went from Brussel Noord to Berlin Ostbahnhof via Frankfurt on the new ICE in 1st class. A comfortable journey and very hassle free compared to an airline flight. Just hop on, relax, eat and drink something when u feel like it, watch some onboard movie or read up on the news, and hop off clos to where you're staying. Easy.
Rode this train domestically in the Netherlands between Utrecht en Den Bosch. I have no idea why they were running to Den Bosch instead of Arnhem, but that was too good of a ride to pass up. Lovely trains!
Indeed i have been on that train twice, but only short distance. My first time was just a short impression from Frankfurt to Frankfurt Airport, and my second time was from Siegburg/Bonn to Köln. Anyways, i like this train very much, can´t wait to see more of them in the region i live
The Train World museum is well worth a visit if you're in Brussels - I was there in August and went on to Hamburg via Köln so travelled on the ICE3neo - lovely trains inside - I opted for 1st class too, and also enjoyed the Bordbistro offering.
Caught this train to and from Brussels in the past month and definitely the most comfortable train I’ve been on in a while, was a disappointment to get on a Pendolino when eventually getting to London.
Great video! I’m a big fan of the German ICE trains too, especially with the Eurail Global pass since you don’t need a reservation fee. I spent some time at stations south of Nuremberg, like Allersberg and Kinding. Those trains flew by at 300 KM!
Brilliant video! The ICE3 neo is the best train in Europe. On Brussels - Cologne, it is so much better than the outdated and narrow Thalys/EST trainsets. Hopefully, EST will buy some Velaro trains too, as they did on the Lonon-routes.
8:50 I could see the construction zone from the train window. Also saw them using a crane to remove massive objects from the North station. There, they needed to first tear down a wall to gain access. The biggest objects were put inside the new museum before its roof was finished.
The problem with the ICE 3neo isn't the train itself. The unreliability is surrounded by the various ongoing projects that are rebuilding there Train Stations and railways. Riedbahn Corridor, Duisburg, Dresdin, and Munich Stations, Stuttgart 21,... and many more. People are losing trust in the trains right now. This will go until 2030, if we are lucky.
I travelled that way three days after you, but the train broke down in Aachen, requiring a change there, and again in Cologne to get to Frankfurt. I don’t know whether it was the Neo or the older version, but I don’t think anybody was especially surprised when the electrics failed and everyone was turfed off onto a domestic service.
Great train, took BR408/ICE3 Neo from Dortmund to Stuttgart (should have been Munich). Unfortunately everything else (service, timetable etc) was sh*te: onboard catering wasn't working "due to technical issues", the service was partially cancelled (terminated in Stuttgart instead of Munich). The train itself, however, was great: 1st class seats are very comfortable, spacious and, very importantly, ergonomic for those longer journeys. Train ride somehow seemed very smooth. Not sure if this was just my subjective perception, but it just seemed so much more smooth and better insulated than, say, Frecciarossa 1000. It's a shame that DB is in its current state.
I travel fairly often and have seen a slight improvement recently. It seems like they somewhat adjusted their timetables to the reality of the infrastructure, resulting in longer journey times, but fewer missed connections. If they continue like this for a very long time, they might even get back to reliability at some point.
It is also, because the class 406 (The ICE3 train variant formerly used on international routes) hates you on a personal level and will stop working when you will expect it least.
The problem is IMO mostly with the tracks in Germany rather than with the trains. On the direct commections FFM-Paris most of the delays are caused by congested traffic between Frankfurt and Mannheim. Unlike, say, France and Spain the international express trains share the tracks with freight trains and local commuter services.
Are people really carrying only USB cables but no chargers? Sure, when you are from other places with different plug layouts - but what are you doing once you get off the train?
much better to have a normal plug than installing USB sockets which might be outdated soon - like on the elizabeth line in london where they ONLY installed USB-A sockets whereas in the meantime most phones switched to USB-C-to-C cables, meaning you need to get an extra cable just to charge your phone on the train. makes no sense.
@@lukerogers6133 The reason the windows and seats are not aligned is to save costs. In contrast to the ICE 3 and ICE 3M, there are only 2 types of carriages, namely end carriages and intermediate carriages. These have the same design for both 1st and 2nd class; Naturally, the distance between the seats is greater in 1st class compared to 2nd class, resulting in poor alignment of the seats in relation to the windows. The original ICE 3 and ICE 3M train sets did have a difference in width of the windows for 1st class and 2nd class, so the seats were originally aligned with the windows. During the first renovation, an extra row of seats was installed in both 1st and 2nd class, which also destroyed the alignment of the seats in relation to the windows.

We had to go to Dusseldorf with ICE, then a Regional train to Hertongsrath where a bus was supposed to bring us to Heerlen. Finally a regional train to Liège via Maastricht ... But the train was delayed when it arrived at Dusseldorf ... delayed train to Aachen and the a car to Liege Arrived a 03:00am instead of 08:00pm.
...I use the German ICE Service often to travel between Liege/Belgium and Basel/Switzerland. Generally I agree with your comments of the new ICE 3-Neo, however, I really miss the 6-seater Compartments available in first class on the ICE 3-M. They provided a nice and quite compartment, sheltering you from the usual Hussle and bustle of the open carriages......
Nice to see that wheelchair access is theoretically available. But that ramp seemed very narrow and I am not certain that I could get my electric wheelchair on. It would also be nice if you showed where the wheelchairs are expected to sit once on board.
Very much dependent on the seat, though it's pretty standard across German ICE high speed trains (all have basically the same manufacturer). Will be interested to see this on the Talgo ICE Ls when they're introduced.
@@matpk Many ICE trains will change direction at least once on their journey through Germany. So seats will alway be backwards-facing at least a part of the ride. Also, Deutsche Bahn has no reliable process to even guarantee that an ICE will actually operate in the direction it's scheduled to go. ICEs operate with the scheduled front of the train facing backwards all the time.
I travelled Amsterdam to frankfurt in june on an ICE and it was on time, then i tried to get to frankfurt to zurich but that ICE was 2 and a half hours late
on my last journey with ICE at 06:23 they announced that the restaurant is going to remain closed all the way to Frankfurt due to "the staff did not show for work this morning" (they really said it, yes). So no water for 4,5 hours... If you wonder why 4,5 hrs, yes, there was a 1 hour and 13 minutes delay. So no, the new Neo did not make the DB go Neo as well.
As long as the train infrastructure is not renewed nothing will change. (and btw. a lot of the stops are caused by suicides by train, but they will not tell you that)
Most of the current problems with delays and scarce service are caused by construction sites, trying to do exactly this: renewing the infrastructure. You can't keep the cake and eat it at the same time.
@@redseventyfiveprime5018 Unlikely but:. 1.) The engineer is usually unable to tell, whether the victim really died, or is only injured. So he has to stop, in order to check, if help is still possible. 2.) Also: law enforcement has to examine it too, in order to rule out a homicide. For that, they want the train, where it happened, so they may have as many traces preserved as possible.
They wait for people to go to the toilet and then will look into exterior pockets of luggage for valuables or steal stuff people left laying around. Many people leave notebooks, tablets and headphones at their seat while going to the toilet. The pickpockets will then quickly exit at the next station. That's why they prefer routes with two stations close together. Even better, of course, are longer stays at one station where they can exit right after commiting the crime. Frankfurt Hbf, for example, is famous for pickpockets, beggars and drug addicts going through the trains during their long stay at the station.
What exactly do you mean? The fact that the trainset has a top speed doesn't mean it's running at that speed (I rarely drive my car at top speed). It's important to understand that Germany does not have a dedicated high speed rail network, and ICE are the STANDARD trains for long distance travel between bigger cities. Only a few newer sections are approved for this top speed and are also only used to a limited extent by other trains. Otherwise, ICE trains run on the normal rail network. ICE rail travel on Germany is like using your Ferrari in inner-city traffic or on US highways.
@@gerohubner5101 What I mean is that I've taken 6 DB ICEs this year and every one of them was late… by 12-33 mins (apart from the one that never came). Small sample, maybe, but making trains faster doesn't seem to be the key issue right now.
Nicely done, I visited brussels weekend just gone with my young son and we went to train world. It's well worth a look there's some nice exhibits in there.
I liked the ICE 3, only like an average delay of 30 minutes. But it had a head/aft quiet cabin with only 12 seats, in second class, well worth the seat reservation, a secret mini cabin, many won’t enter because they fear it is first class. Now the replaced it on the AMS-FRA line. What a SHAME! *They replaced my private premium economy cabin with f'in bike racks, what the hell??* 😡 Bikers, go take an IC/EC or regional train!!!!! Now I have to book first class to get some quiet ambiance and privacy again.. 😤
I was wondering why I have started to notice more Original IC3 sets on the international route between Germany and Switzerland. Mainly we are the Kalurah Basel line. This section used to be dominated by ICE4 sets and very few ICE3 sets provided they are taking the cologne line, but now that has changed.
It’s Germany. You’re not supposed to be on any kind of public transport, you’re supposed to support the one and only politically relevant industry and Just Buy A Car Already (tm)!
In which century is it going to change? For the last 20 years german trains are getting worse and worse . No service and yes, ICE are nice trains but it doesn't help if they run with a speed of average 110 km an hour. 50 years ago I needed 3 hours and 4 minutes from Frankfurt to Basel (310 km, flat landscape, no mountains, straight route), today 2hours 54 minutes the fastest..)Middle age....they are only a few hundreds of km in Germany where the ICE can use its high speed feature, the rest just average.
@seyidmadeh8583 rewatch the video. Koln - Frankfurt (191km )is High speed which ,depending on the train and number of stations in the middle (which affect the velocity) can take less that 1 hour or 1.30. after Koln is NOT an high speed line
@mijos3 Apparently, Southeastern are planning to replace their current metro fleet. There's an emphasis on improvements for level boarding, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a FLIRT. Something like the class 777 would be nice.
I use LNER quite often. The Azumas are a terrible train but they are usually on time. I am on holiday in Germany and travelling by train. Every single ICE I have taken has been late and missed connections. I am returning to England tomorrow morning. Because of infrastructure work between Cologne and Brussels, the 12:14 ICE 314 from Frankfurt has been rescheduled to 10:54 to make sure (haha) it will still arrive at 15:35. All the RE and RB trains and the Harzer Schmalspurbahn services have been punctual.
Two things that I don't agree with. While all the other ones ticked all the boxes. Dutch people don't take their bikes onto trains, it's a German fenomenon. We rent bikes or have a second bike at our destination, you can't even get your bike on a train during rush hours it isn't allowed. The bistro/ restaurant wagon, no comments on the offering but look at Polish and Czechoslovakia dinner cars this is all tasteless microwaved or prepared somewhere else. (Actually I can taste it their is no love involved, no joke a serious matter). But the thing I really want to say the seating sucks in comparison to the former ICE3 which had brilliant seats this is old skool ICE-1 seating, not my favourite absolutely not! I actually rode the neo yesterday from Düsseldorf to Utrecht and 2 weeks ago from Utrecht to Duisburg it's a very nice train much better than the previous one or ICE4 or ICE-T which I also used yesterday.
You have no idea how many cyclists use their own bikes to go on day trips/holidays. During the holiday season (say May to September) it is often hard to travel with your bike on Dutch intercities because all bike places are occupied. On the Amsterdam/Berlin intercities the bike reservations are usually sold out months in advance, so more capacity on the ICEs is much appreciated.
The last 'czechoslovakian dinner cars' were in service over 30 years ago, when there was a Czechoslovakia. Their food service must have been great, as it took 2-3 days travel time even on average domestic travel. Nobody wanted to carry starving passengers out of the train at their destination.
So let's not call a speed without factoring planned depart time to actual arrival time - that is the "true" speed instead of pretending something is super fast sitting in a station or on the track for hours on end. It should be a rule that all train firms must advertise this way - tell the truth.
I'm not a big fan of this high-speed project as a whole. I live in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. In two weeks, I'll be taking the car to Lille, right across the border in France, and hop on a low-cost Ouigo to Marseille. It takes 4h30 to the very south of France. That's absolutely amazing. For Frankfurt, I would simply go by car via Antwerp, a little stretch through Holland, and I'm there. The complexity and slowness and too many stops make this high-speed project from BE to DE a waste of money for many Belgians. 3h and 8 minutes for 441km...
If you don’t want your face on camera, you will need to stay out of public spaces. Go straight from your home to the car and wear a mask so you aren’t seen by CCTV, traffic cameras, dashcams etc.

What's the point of stopping after a collision? To assess the damage to the train?
@@redseventyfiveprime5018 Unlikely but:.
1.) The engineer is usually unable to tell, whether the victim really died, or is only injured. So he has to stop, in order to check, if help is still possible.
2.) Also: law enforcement has to examine it too, in order to rule out a homicide. For that, they want the train, where it happened, so they may have as many traces preserved as possible.
11:50 how did you manage to get that shot while you were on the train? 😮

Sadly, the coloured roof at Guillemins is only temporary. It is likely to revert to plain glass before the end of the year
Short question, how do you paint out the route map and the kilometers? Or someone WHO knows??
Been on it when I went to gamescom in August
Im literally riding an ICE 3neo right now (domestically, new design). I still prefer the ICE 1 trainsets with their compartment seating tho.
I spotted the ICE 3 neo
How does the pickpocket operate ? Do they steal your heavy luggage?
They tend to go for anything small and easy to carry that looks valuable.
The ICE International is going from being lit (literally) to being lit (figuratively)
Yeah, but what's the _actual_ speed? Unless DB has made huge strides lately, it's going to be a fair bit slower than advertised.
Otherwise, ICE trains run
on the normal rail network.
What is it with modern public transport seats and their upright headrests?.....makes sleep impossible!
Croatians drinking beer for breakfast 14:17 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I did this rout last summer, and it's far far away from 300km 😅
10:45 You forgot that its the only train with leather pillows
Nicely done, I visited brussels weekend just gone with my young son and we went to train world. It's well worth a look there's some nice exhibits in there.
funny you say reliable, the only time I had a ice3neo, it broke down in aachen, but thankfully it rebooted after like 40 minutes of them trying things
Trust me, you don't want random USB sockets everywhere. Want to get hacked? Plug your device into a random USB socket.
Isn’t this different on trains?
@@MaxvdB No, use a usb data blocker or something.
Interesting to have a Restaurant car on Board 😋😋😋
I have a question, could you try the GWR service from Paddington to Penzance, unless you already have.
Do you like sciatica and a DVT? Because that’s how you get sciatica and DVT.
I take the train connection Brussels Cologne regularly
It's a bl***y shambles
Delays, dirty toilets and hardly any Catering !!!
Yes, Trainworld is good fun, as is the Dutch railway museum in Utrecht.
Yes, Trainworld is a amazing museum - really worth visiting
I was wondering why I have started to notice more Original IC3 sets on the international route between Germany and Switzerland. Mainly we are the Kalurah Basel line. This section used to be dominated by ICE4 sets and very few ICE3 sets provided they are taking the cologne line, but now that has changed.
Announcements should also be made in Meow

40 euros for a 3 hour ride? Eurostar charges 35 for 1.5 Brussels-Amsterdam.
Well, thats the better one with the older design. The 017 018 019 020 021 022 and 029 already have them
Brilliant video.
Did you travel on the Class 323 on the Farewell Tour yesterday? If you can I have a video on that sometime soon?
Thanks.
Trainworld is fantastic, you've got to go! It's basically the museum of Belgian railways. It's as good as York IMO
Those red French 30 year old trains scare the shit out of me #monsters
Well, they still have delays.... Just not because of the trains being bad but more because DB is horrible at their job
It’s Germany. You’re not supposed to be on any kind of public transport, you’re supposed to support the one and only politically relevant industry and Just Buy A Car Already (tm)!
Its not about them being bad at their job, DB just lacks funding.

I still do NOT see any lie-flat or even adjustable seats like in goddamn FLIXBUS!
In which century is it going to change? For the last 20 years german trains are getting worse and worse . No service and yes, ICE are nice trains but it doesn't help if they run with a speed of average 110 km an hour. 50 years ago I needed 3 hours and 4 minutes from Frankfurt to Basel (310 km, flat landscape, no mountains, straight route), today 2hours 54 minutes the fastest..)Middle age....they are only a few hundreds of km in Germany where the ICE can use its high speed feature, the rest just average.
rewatch the video.
Minute 17.35
3 hours 14 minutes fir 365 km, an average of about 100km. Nothing from the speed of 300km what you are saying....Not really highspeed
Yeah, people criticise UK rail for having a max speed of 125mph/201kph, but I swear we have higher average speeds on like for like routes.
@seyidmadeh8583
rewatch the video.
Koln - Frankfurt (191km )is High speed which ,depending on the train and number of stations in the middle (which affect the velocity) can take less that 1 hour or 1.30.
after Koln is NOT an high speed line
Class 465 review wen
(Since theyre getting replaced in the near future)
They are? Replaced by what train?
@mijos3 Apparently, Southeastern are planning to replace their current metro fleet. There's an emphasis on improvements for level boarding, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a FLIRT. Something like the class 777 would be nice.

They just took the Eurostar and made it a German train💀💀💀
They didn’t take the Eurostar e320 and make a German train. The e320 IS a German train. It is Siemens Velaro just like the ICE.
they've removed the colour roof in Liége 😢
Lner eat your heart out 🤣
I use LNER quite often.

Ziffit??VERY particular about what they buy so seller beware!!
Is this a beautiful looking train or what seamans know how to build a train.
You really, really need to blur faces. It is no longer acceptable to post pics/vids with recognizable faces.
If you don’t want your face on camera, you will need to stay out of public spaces. Go straight from your home to the car and wear a mask so you aren’t seen by CCTV, traffic cameras, dashcams etc.
This train seems great, shame its so ugly 🤢
