Had an opportunity to visit the Mecca known as Norman’s Rare Guitars today. Was able to meet Mark, Jen and Norm! What a gracious and wonderful group of people, they made me, a nobody, feel not only welcome but appreciated. I always read about how Norm only speaks to the stars and big spenders and let me say that certainly wasn’t my experience as he was friendly and very approachable. Mark and Jen were both beyond nice. Thank you both for talking to and spending so much time with me. Mark, thanks for the gig bag for my new p bass! Go Norm’s!!!!
When i die and arrive at the gates of heaven this is the guitar god himself will be holding and he will say you can play this but no stairway to heaven.
terry lumpkin sorry to hear that bro. My dad died of it a few back. Don’t think there’s anything they can do once it gets to brain. My dad suffered a horrible death so just be prepared for the worst. ✌️❤️🏴
Now that is what I call an episode of Guitar of the Day! Best of all we got to hear the guitar with its clean tone instead of hearing it overdriven. You can always crank your amp or add a pedal but what I always want is to hear the clean tone. If I like that I know I will also like it after I have pushed it. And what an Incredible tone on all 3 pickups! Best GOTD since the Broadcaster back in August,
Many thanks Mark and Jen for creating and posting this series. I watch and enjoy every episode and have picked up a few playing tips along the way. Keep up the good work!
“I could put this much wear on this guitar in a weekend” LOL! No shit- especially with the evil relic-ing jacket on. This made me go back and watch a few of the old GODs- Mark has gotten a lot looser on-cam, and the negative comments on how he treats the guitars have really tapered off. One early commenter even bitched about how hard he picked! I always get my daily dose of the show, even if I cringe now and then- keep ‘em coming guys, thanks
I have a 55 strat. Once owned by Kenny Loggins before he was a name. He lived in Sierra Madre and sold it to one of my brothers friend who sold it to me over 40 years ago. Ive been playing it since I was 19 years old. I let other people play it and they love it. I tell them an old guitar is all I could afford. So cool to see one at Norman's.
I hope a player buys this Strat and plays it for years, rather than it doing the trader circuit with an ever higher price. Vintage guitar prices are crazy but that's what people are paying to collect some music history. Sure, i could build a parts one and it would be good. I could also build a Ford Model T, but it will never be the real deal. Where I think it gets obnoxious with guitar pricing is the aged stuff coming from Fender and Gibson's CS lines that are several times the price of the base model. I prefer to just buy the base model used and play it lots to age it. Seems more legit to me and is more friendly on the wallet. What i really want though is a place with no neighbors and a barn that i know i can stay at for over a decade so i can have a dog I never have to re-home and Marshall stacks etc next to my vodka still and all that. A place people can come stay for an affordable fee and rehearse/record/relax.
ha, said the same thing to the missus then shrugged. My IBZ RR Sr is made out of about 10 pieces of ash. I think most Strats were made of two or three.
I’m a Tele guy but damn this one fine piece of ash. I finished watching the video then started to watch another and I can’t stop picturing that beauty. Love the ash body strats
That '55 Strat is a stunner! The three songs were perfect to show how each of the pickups sound. There is some merit to the 3-way switch. I know the 5-way is more versatile and that is how my Squier strat is set up, but this is absolute classic strat tone. I like Les Pauls and humbuckers, too but, in my opinion, this is what a guitar should sound like. Thank you Mark and Jen, this made my Straturday. Thanks to Norm for buying these guitars and sharing them with all of us. You guys make us feel like we are a part of this thing. Is there anything better than a classic, vintage guitar? The answer is, " No!"
This is easily the most beautiful 50‘s ash body, maple board Strat I have ever seen. Gruhn guitars had a 1954 Strat that rivals this one with a lightly flamed neck. Lovely!
1. Lenny - SRV
2. My Best Friends Girl - Cars
3. La Bamba - Ritchie Valens
D. Mac 6
Come back D. Mac, we need you in the new videos
Jen singing is the best moment for me in the 2 years I have watched this show! Love you both! Kick ass job!

@@eddiegodoy5120 probs closer to 65k
@@eddiegodoy5120 That's the joke.
When i die and arrive at the gates of heaven this is the guitar god himself will be holding and he will say you can play this but no stairway to heaven.
You'll already be there, so why play it 🤣
57 reissue
Fantastic Strat. The tone is superb.the color is close to Clapton’s Brownie Strat. The wood grain is beyond fantastic.
10 seconds into Mark playing it and I was like "yeah, it's gone"
Mark's reaction to Jen singing is priceless.
Dude that thing is as CLEAN as it was 624 episodes ago
No, it is not. Check the scratch next to the bridge. It was not there 624 episodes ago !
Nothing like seeing an old friend after a few years and hanging out together- Luv It!
Possibly the sweetest neck pickup you're ever likely to hear. Just perfect.
The wear on the fretboard lines up with La Bamba perfectly...
Like thats what was played on it forever..
That Strat was just to beautiful and if that was Jen singing, I have died and gone to heaven. Love you guys.
It’s good to come back to watch guitar of the week my mom have brain cancer but doing well and you have a Stratocaster I love Stratocaster
I pray God completely heals her and extends her time on this earth.
Best wishes to your mom! I’m glad these episodes give you some joy while going through a tough time. 🙂🙏🏻
Best wishes to your mum and family and I hope you have a long and happy life together .
terry lumpkin sorry to hear that bro. My dad died of it a few back. Don’t think there’s anything they can do once it gets to brain. My dad suffered a horrible death so just be prepared for the worst. ✌️❤️🏴
Prayers for mom
That look on Mr. Agnesi’s face when Jen started singing...
So will we be seeing this Strat again in episode 1250?
That was the tone of a generation. Perfect !!!
You're right, it doesn't get much better than that. Love the way SRV sounds on that guitar. Thanks again Mark and Jen! Byeeeeeee!

Jim Bonacum Amen on clean tones.. any crapper can overdrive and be dirty... but only the good ones are good clean.
Yeah, it's easier to tell how a guitar will sound distorted from its clean tone than how it will sound clean from its distorted tone
Jen sounds so cute with her , "Para bailar la Bamba!"
She certainly does! Come on, Jen, more vocals, please! :-)
That was as beautiful of a Strat as you have ever had, wow! Mark, I can tell you love to play in each video!
Many thanks Mark and Jen for creating and posting this series. I watch and enjoy every episode and have picked up a few playing tips along the way. Keep up the good work!
I don’t often comment on TH-cam videos but this might be the most beautiful guitar I’ve ever seen on this channel.
Wow I don’t usually comment but that strat sounds angelic
Sounds truly ...Amazing......

The G.O.T.D. that KEEPS ON GIVING!
Even though mark is gone this will probably be my favorite episode just because of how well he played Lenny, good luck Michael
That tone...ooh. Very nice.
Beautiful.
I can dig it.
That is one beautiful piece of ash. Sounds amazing too!
ha, said the same thing to the missus then shrugged. My IBZ RR Sr is made out of about 10 pieces of ash. I think most Strats were made of two or three.
Best looking strat I've ever seen, gorgeous! More vocals from Jen please.
Never heard a 50's Strat with so little wear that sounded that good. That is a great Strat.

I totally, absolutely, definitely, without any reservations whatsoever, FUCKING LOVE IT.
