OMG, Mama ( Dear Nanay) is a darling, I love that she shared a few of her unforgettable memories of her early days in the Philippines. Her school, De Ocampo is just within my place/house, and I graduated at FEU. Good thing you tag her along. Ooooh, I’m missing all those street food. Thanks for loving/liking our Pinoy lifestyle especially Cav, he’s a real trooper and always ready to try anything under the sun ! Cav/Nicole, “balut”, is a boiled unhatched baby chick, it became so popular as a street food and foreigners are the ones who always put on the spot and being challenged to try it. Remember, other countries got their own unique food and you better start embracing the Pinoy culture, and liking our food won’t do no harm. There are 4 basic parts of the balut. First is the soup which actually taste like chicken soup or boiled chicken. Second is like the yolk. You can try that because its almost similar to a hard boiled egg. Next is the duck embryo, it’s an acquired taste you might want to skip that, lastly is what they call the stone (bato) you can skip that too because the consistency is like you’re eating an eraser. Enjoy! 😂😂😂

I eat 5-6 balut in one sitting once a week pangbawi Ng resistensya. The secret of eating balut is by not looking at it, after breaking the egg shell put some salt or vinegar and slurp the juice then gulp the whole balut leaving the hard part... careful tho coz your blood pressure may go up.

My mom went to the same university as your mom but in their College of Optometry. when hey had it and she later became a professor there before we moved to NY when I was a child. Thanks for sharing your journey. Our last visit to the Philippines was when my daughter was only 4 yrs old, 20+ yrs ago.
Just subscribed to your channel. Guys, you are eating the balut wrong. This is how to do it. After cracking the shell, suck the juice then open it halfway, pour some vinegar and salt and then swallow in one action the whole thing! Just make sure you spit out the hard thing inside it, if it comes out together with meat part although most time it stays stuck to the shell.

Cav, I feel you bro it took my girl an hour to convince me to try Balut. It was actually decent tasting but the texture is just.... unique lol If you guys get a chance some of my favorites from Philippines are Singing, Sisig ( I think they have chicken sisig too if you dont eat pork) Pancit and lumpia of course and you gotta try Halo Halo.. and some restaurants offer crispy chicken skin with vinegar!

Don't be scared of balut. It's the thought of the duck embryo that scares people. Honestly, it's not necessarily the greatest tasting food in the Philippines but it ain't the worst either. I'm proud of y'all for at least tasting the juice. But next time, eat the whole thing! 😀
