When we flew Southwest last year to a wedding and our luggage did not arrive, they TOLD us to buy and we would be reimbursed. We were reimbursed clothing for the rehearsal dinner, toiletries, sleepwear, swimsuits for the kids, casual outfits for two days, right down the undergarments and socks. We were frugal, kept it under $300 per adult and $150 per child. They wrote us a check on the spot when we went ro pick up our luggage the morning of the wedding. We had no issues. Granted, it was a pain to go shopping each day, but it was better than having to buy it ourselves!

I flew from New Hampshire to Dallas back in the early 80s. They lost my suitcase. A very older seasoned salesman pulled me aside and told me to tell the desk clerk my wallet was inside my suitcase even though it wasn’t. The airline ended up giving me vouchers for a hotel, meals and a taxi. I could have paid that but his advice saved a bunch of money. The airline delivered my suitcase to my hotel the next day. I was 22 and he appeared to be in his early sixties. I’ve always wanted to thank him for his advice.

What a good Man to share that information with you, that would have felt good to have a night at a hotel, a nice dinner and the taxi to get there, all on the airline money. I’m sure you have passed the information on to other’s just like you’re doing here, and that’s repaying his kindness. Not related but when I was traveling in the US 19i88 (I’ve been there about 20 times) I answered a call for volunteers to give a their seats and they offered my Girlfriend and I a $500 voucher but since I’m an Aussie I pressed them and they gave us a $1000 voucher each they were much more generous back then with flight vouchers. Plus a meal voucher each as it was about a 4hr wait for the next flight. My Mum taught me to always volunteer if you have the time and to not take the first offer.

    • @Lavenderrose73

@Sweetlyfe Who said anything about having taken it out of the airport yet? This was about reaching out to someone for help and not knowing who you should be actually reaching out to (while stressed out and anxious over baggage that should be there and isn't). Maybe consider how the person may be feeling and that they may not know _what_ to think at the moment.

@@Lavenderrose73 I think you misunderstood my intent, or it may not have come across in my comment, it was meant to be informative not critical of the person, having been travelling for 43yrs, I prefer to have a 23yr old reliable car and live simply so I can travel. I have been In those situations and yes it’s incredibly stressful, and I feel for anyone in those circumstances as you stand at the baggage carousel hoping that your bag will arrive. So that’s why I put some meant to be helpful information for people in those circumstances, because airlines will try and screw you and claiming it’s not their responsibility like when my suitcase was damaged after a 20hr flight/s when I got home and I still hadn’t gone through customs as the lost baggage area is usually in the baggage hall, but find a staff member to direct you if you can’t find it. I also carry any and all medication in my carry on luggage even if it’s enough for 3 months away, just in case my baggage gets lost. I hope this clarifies my intent. Take care.

Thankfully I had my coat, but I needed to purchase replacements of everything else. When I finally got the link to submit receipts, I could only upload one small file. The $3500 is for baggage that is never found, not for general expenses and reimbursement. If they do give you payment for interim expenses, then that amount will come out of the payout. And it is a maximum of $3500, dependent upon the cost and age of items in the bag, as well as the bag.

This is why I don't check bags. Everything goes in my hiking pack that is a carry on size. No waiting around for luggage, worrying it will get lost. It stays with me all the time. And I have saved about $800 on baggage fees by using my hiking pack as a carry on

I had to deal with my entire suite of winter snowboarding gear getting delayed a couple years ago and American ended up paying for over $1000 of items for me. I had a dated lift ticket, so if I didn't get to ride the first day, it would be a loss. I don't think I even had to explain that to them, though.

Do you have any tips/advice for me, as to what I can do to reassure myself, that the airlines won't lose my luggage. And if they do happen to lose my luggage, what tips/advice do you have for me to reassure me, that the airlines will find my lost luggage. Thank you. I greatly appreciate it. I also have autism.
