The song is just saying men are like this, its not saying men shouldnt be like this. The lyrics are just normalizing men objectifying women. It's giving the message that men will be men. If it was about questioning men then she would'nt be singing in a seductive voice, she doesn't sound angry or sad. DSP said that this tune was inspired from devotional songs. I don't think he made this song to empower women. I don't think he even knows what feminism means.
I agree with your description of the lyrics, and I’ll try and explain why I had a negative reaction to them. Caveat: I’m a man, so maybe my reaction is intended 🤷🏻♂️ I think the song is trying to have it both ways. The song is shot in a way to objectify the actress, the actress is complicit in her own objectification because it helped her reframe her image in the industry and put her in the limelight, and the movie got a viral song that increased its popularity. The actress is not someone who is past their prime in the industry, where one could make the case that they had no choice but to participate in such a song. Based on her participation in the promos for the song, I genuinely believe she is happy with her involvement and what she got out of it. Long setup, but what I’m getting at is that everyone who made the song willingly used the sexual appeal of the song to make it popular. But, the song also wants me as the listener/viewer to feel bad for enjoying the song. The lyrics talk about the ways in which men objectify women and ignore everything other than their sexuality. But I didn’t make the song! You did! Why are you blaming me? 😂 If you think item songs are harmful (and I’m not going to disagree), don’t make an item song. You can’t have it both ways, where you make something people enjoy and then within that work chastise them for enjoying it. This applies to other genres too. Action scenes work because we enjoy the violence: they aren’t followed by detailed scenes about how each goon had to go the hospital to recover and the financial toll it took on his family due to his inability to work. Comedy scenes often rely on a lowering of status: the joke reframes the subject as stupid or inept or embarrassing. The scene isn’t followed by scenes delving into how hurtful it is to be the subject of laughter, or how it warps someone’s personality to be reduced to a stereotype and then be made fun of. We could go on. Now if your aim is a deconstructionist take on a genre, I think that’s great! But if you are still benefiting from the thing you’re criticizing, that’s just hypocritical. It’s clear that this song really wants to be sexy. So then, be sexy. Don’t tell the audience off for enjoying what you’ve made.
@@ckannan90 I agree with most of what you said… which is why the humorous interpretation feels a better fit than the preachy one (to me)… the humorous one being: if they’re an object for you, you’re probably an object to them. (But it remains within the film, between the men and women dancing there) and doesn’t break out of the fourth wall and talk to the audience… I will also add that I see objectification is a universal thing… everyone is doing it… I don’t usually see the need to single out male attraction as the only objectification going on in the world and pounce on men for it…

(But it remains within the film, between the men and women dancing there) and doesn’t break out of the fourth wall and talk to the audience… I will also add that I see objectification is a universal thing… everyone is doing it… I don’t usually see the need to single out male attraction as the only objectification going on in the world and pounce on men for it…
clever objectification
In the chromatic set of keys (key 1 to 12)
1-4-3-2-1,
1-4-3-2-1,
1-4-3-2-1,
1-4-3-2-1…..
