You literally explained what was in my mind when I first heard this song for the song time, it's actually a rule breaking song, another fact that i noticed was usually in a song, pallavi and charanam in the 1st half the song they use the same pallavi in the 2nd half of the song also.. But in this song lyrics of pallavi and charan won't repeat(except thalli pogathey stanza)..

This song is a copy of Lionel Richie's HELLO. Common, hello was released in 1983. Ragu-Man produced good songs in Tamil no doubt but this song was a copy of Lionel Richie's hello. I mean the BGM.

there is a very interesting story behind the whole thalli pogathey getting pushed.. when the trailer cut was made...if you
remember thalli pogathey was bought in much earlier .. when the trailer received a great response ..Rahman called Gautham and did ask him if in the original song the same structure should be followed as the fan expectations were sky high.. but Gautham suggested that this tune was the one that came our organically and that they should stick to this .. The story doesn't end there.. when the actual song was released a lot of people expressed disappointment as Rahman predicted bcos they felt the trailer cut version was better.. this just shows that a man on top of his game like Rahman still had that doubt in him.. and after a while the song gained acceptance.. which vindicated gauthams vision to go with the original
