Yeah don't worry too much. Most of the models are old Athearn Blueboxes and those can survive almost anything. A fall will only scratch it up or slightly warp some smaller details.
Neat scene and I like the behind the scenes too! Maybe more weight would've made the crash more realistic, but the cars flying all over the place sure looks cool. A true test of the durability of the Athern engines, huh.
I don't understand most of the hate in the crash sequences and disrepair of the engines and rollingstock. Most of what was used was at the disposal of the producer, and was done really well, especially the custom stuff. And besides, the stuff used is not really a rare engine or rail car, and used a good amount of liberties for the desired filming. It was a great shoot, with superb details, and a really satisfying crash altogether. Look forward for more stuff just like it. "⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
Awesome. The only thing, is to pick a smoother material, so it would bend and rip as usual trains do. But the setting is incredible. The lights and whole looks.
It actually looks like a 3d movie from the 90s because the way the coach flies by the screen like the way stuff flies at the screen in those same movies lol
I do remember the movie. At one point, you can see a railroad timetable (if you freeze frame it) and one of the scheduled trains was a "BN Steam Freight"--obviously an inside joke, since the Burlington Northern didn't exist during steam days.
Could a movie miniature set using model trains be used to recreate a real life train wreck like the 1999 Bourbonnais, Illinois, USA train crash where an Amtrak train hits a truck and causes a massive derailment?
A scene with effects we would see in a cheesy lower budget film. With that said... I have new appreciation because of the skills, time and efforts put into a scene like this. It just has that cheesy, really fake sort of look in terms of movie effects. I wont list the few reasons why I see this as cheesy for a movie, but a stand out for me was how new all the cars looked. No dirt, no rust, no weathered paint, all shiny and all brand new looking.
If only the engines were made of a more crushable material, it would be more realistic. The Ho plastic is too hard for such a crash. And the using knuckle couplers and gluing the couplers together will help keep the railcars moving forward rather than jumping all over the place. Ive done a few crashes before and that's how I did it, especially with added weights on the last railcars for momentum. Moving them by hand and letting them go with no weights on the last railcars is not a good idea. That's why most of them bounced back again because they are lightweight and have no proper momentum. With how much heavier a freight train is, the freight train should have continued it’s course further than the passenger train but here, the passenger train pretty much won the freight train and where are all there other tank cars?.. You should hire me for these crashes.
Well, you did good on the actual recreation of the movie crash. However you went way to fast with the models on your final version. Locomotives doing multible flips into the air is just not realistic. A train derails just in the front where the crash happends, not the whole thing at the same time. Hard to do with models since there small and noth heavy, but you cound have used some regtangular shaped plastic parts to make the cars derails sideways and not shooting straight up into the air. But in the end I'll have to say: Great work Guys !
