Miniature Grand Continental passenger train HO Scale :

The lighting gives a 90s movie vibe which always reminds me of how cool movies actually were back in the day when they used large scale models for fully practical effects. Everything looked so real as a kid and I still believe it 'till this day. Hands down for you, guys. You're my new favorite SFX crew
Thanks 🙏 I’m in love with these old movies too !

Probably the best train scene in a movie. And all with Ho scale trains.
this is amazing footage quality for something done in 1995
Indeed, this is the year the movie was released ;)
Cool replication of my favorite train movie
A suggestion on painting Athearn Blue Box handrails. I install them first, then hold the stanchions to the rails with a dab of CA. Once the glue is set, I pull the entire handrail assembly off of the locomotive and then airbrush the rails at once covering both sides and tops and bottoms evenly. Then simply press them back into the body.
Gomez Adams would be proud of your efforts
I like how you used those southern pacific locomotives
Yeah i have a dummy one those southern pacfifc locomotives are sd45 t
Gomez Addams would be proud!
this is nothing short of absolutely ridiculous
How is it the flying trains
As a model railroader... that was hard to watch...had no idea they were going to do that... Ouch 😳.
I understand, but imagine all the models destroyed in all the movies…
@@MiniaturesFX all good..
Yeah during the shooting of this movie the acual one they sued some miniatures giant miniatures made of aluminum and car metal so the locomotives don’t combust on impact
Yes it always hurts to watch model trains being destroyed as they are worth a lot these look old and old ones can take a beating
Yes this model railroad hobby is indeed expensive and if it breaks it’s a lot of money down the drain people think of them as toys very expensive ones and they wasted so much money
Gomez Adams would have been proud of that crash..............
This reminds me a movie with Steven Seagal
This is"undersiege2"😀
I like train.
This is great!😊
The actual footage was done in a much larger scale, after the film was near complete. The full size cars were fabricated at Rader Railcar in Denver around 1994. They actually wrecked three cars during filming. Only two cars had interiors. One of them had 5 different interior areas to indicate different cars. The other shell cars returned to Rader Railcar to be rebuilt for other projects. It wasn't such a blast with the star...he was beyond arrogant....
Thanks for these informations !
They were models made of aluminum to crumble on impact
This is a gift from God
This was way cool, my favorite under siege movie!! Would love to do a trestle like this for my HO layout!!
Thanks 😇
@@MiniaturesFX Any chance u guys still have the deck girder and legs still????
Yes we still have them !
@@MiniaturesFX Would u ever sell them or have more in-depth pointers on how to make them? Thanks
It would be very huge though wonder where you would store something like that
Absolutely beautiful work!
rip model trains :(
I Like This One
Id feel like making a really thin bodyshell (paper thin like) where it can crumple feels likf eit could of worked better
Yes
Since it was not a working train, putting a lot of extra weight inside the locomotives would have made this more realistic, because in no way would the loco have flown 20 feet up in the air like this. (20 feet HO scale) But what do I know, I just build parts for real locomotives, gotta love your enthusiasm though.
Thanks Ben ! Indeed I should have put more weight, as we ended up pushing the trains for more speed, the locos ended up flying :-/
Exactly what I was thinking.
The biggest problem is that model locomotives don't crumple like the real ones, so they don't absorb much of the kinetic energy - hence the flying cars.
It’s cause they are made of durable plastic new one aren’t made for that
YOUR WORK IS JUST AWESOME, SHOESTRING WOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOU MATE !!!
That result of the train crash just bounce of 😨😨😰
This is really amazing, along with the models, weathering, painting, detailing, etc is good and it just shows what you have works and I think the crash is well done and no matter what others say I think this is really great!
Thanks dude 🙏 yes it’s very difficult to make it realistic with this small scale
@MiniaturesFX Sorry for the late reply but you're welcome
Legend has it the locomotive is still airborn till this day!
ahaha ;)
Looks great but physics is on the phone
Let me guess, Under Siege II?
Inspired by, yes !

If you view these type of shots through black n white with a slight contrast - looks well genuine.
I think after they shoot they colourise it a bit and add further texture to the film with a filter, wirth experimenting with👍🏻
Tip a blue tone filter, texturised, dabble with over contrast etc

amazing work and building but should have added a bit of weight to each car so they don't shoot 30 feet into the air
Really cool 😎
Train that weighs 100+ tons: **gets thrown into the air like a frisbee**
Strange that the whole setup was made in plain air, unprotected from the elements... how about rain showers ???

If it's a movie about two model trains colliding then you did an awesome job. However expecting the viewer to believe that two locomotives would be flung into the air like that? Totally unrealistic. Perhaps you could try making the rolling stock as close to scale weight as possible?
Not to mention the fact the cars stayed totally rigid. In reality they would be crumpling
Driving cabs wouldn't be lit up either.
they're HO scale models. You'd be spending more money then necessary making many different versions for something only train nuts are going to notice.
@@Michael-eg3rs You think that non "train nuts" would think that's realistic? 😂😂😂😂
@@steveluckhurst2350 Cut them some slack man, they did pretty good with the resources that they had and with the editing software used.
You did a fantastic job. The engineering behind this & technology computerized latticed structure girders. Excellent. Engines by ATHEARN tops. ✅
I was down with this video until you destroyed this! 😵😮😲
To me this hobby cost a serious fortune. I hated to see that happen... ...
However i would definitely like to get the lazer cut machine that designed the girders & structures. That impressed me . I definitely need something like this in my building structure projects. I too scratch build models myself. Realistic ? 🤔 looked it to me. For a disaster in a movie it was angering & scary .....It must have been that good to me way to go! 👍👋👋👋👋👋👋✅
Thanks ! I asked to a friend to print the bridge parts, he used a basic 3D printer you can buy on Amazon.

Nice. Did they use model trains in the original movie to film this scene?
Thanks ! Yes in the original movie, they used 1:8 scale model trains !
@@MiniaturesFX I remember an episode of the TV show "Movie Magic" showed how they produced the original scene. Was a lot more work, not just because everything was bigger (and they couldn't buy it off the shelf as a result), but there was no such thing as commercial 3D printing, so they had to make it all the old fashioned way!
I watched this on TV every week, I loved it !
C'est un tres bonne video! J'aime que tu as ralentit le video et les trains etait cool!
Merci, tourné en slowmotion 240p et aussi ralenti au montage
Did you save the trains after filming or throw it out in the trash?

Are they dummy’s or powered models?
A mix between the both but I removed the engines on the powered models

Even with rail cars the only think that does is the roof or some details

where is the explosion in the final result?

I’m impressed that your printer seems to print perfectly flat. On my XYZ printer the bottom curves on the edges, even if I stick glue on it. The force of the plastic is stronger than the glue. You don’t have that problem with yours?
Nope, I use liquid cyanoacrylate « super glue » and it work’s perfectly.
@@MiniaturesFX No, I mean when printing the part. Even though I use glue on the build plate, the edges will warp upwards. The thicker the plastic is, the more warp there is. Just trying to figure out if it is the printer, filament or priming of the built plate. You don't seem to have that problem with your printer.
Ah ok, it’s not my 3D printer, it’s a friend who printed the bridge for me. I just know he made a lot of test with differents settings to fix many problems 😅

@@dexterdog62 it's a Steven Segal movie. I bet it has way more accuracy problems than the dimensions of the bridge piers that probably get about 15 seconds if actual screen time. 😆
None of these explosions in all if these videos break apart ,every thing always stays in one piece,is it really that hard to loosen up the cars or houses to look like they are actually blowing up?
